Replacing faceplate on the Flasher V7

I'm thinking about putting a new faceplate on my phone. They have some nice ones at daydeal.com. Anywho, how hard is it to do? Do I need any special tools? I see they sell a prybar-like tool but don't want to buy one if I don't need it.
Any info would be appreciated.

Well, Daydeal stuff is cheaper if you bid on it via eBay.

As for instructions, I've posted some before, so I'll just paste them again.

Quote:
To do so, you need a small phillips screwdriver, an alcohol pad, or botle of isopropyl alcohol, a razor balde (you won't be cutting with it) and a piece of waxpaper (or sticker backing).

There will be 2 round silver circles near the lower corners of the lcd. These are screwcaps (Plastic discs with sticky backing), and two bumper screwcaps at the upper corners.

Use the tip (corner) of the razor balde to lift the lower screwcaps by slowing working the tip between the cap and the screw well. Lift eakh off with the razor, and place them on the waxpaper/sticker backing.

Pull the bumper ones off with a pair of tweezers, or fingernails, and also place them on the waxpaper/sticker backing.

DO NOT TOUCH THE STICKY SIDES OF ANY OF THE CAPS. If you do, they might not be sticky enough to remain on the phone.

Then use the screwdriver to remove the screws, and SLOWLY lift the faceplate off the phone. The camera assembly may be stuck to the inside of the faceplate, and will have to SLOWLY be pulled off.

Once the faceplate is free, clean the inside of the screen cover with the alcohol, and reverse the entire process.

Do a general search on eBay for 8910 faceplate before you settle on Daydeal too. Some other sellers have some different designs.

OK. Thanks for the help it is much appreciated.

I ordered a plain blue faceplace and a silver stubby antenna from daydeal. There was free shipping and 10% off, the order came to $16.64. No big whoop.
I really just wanted to replace the faceplate because it gets so smudged with fingerprints. Plus this way I can cover up the Virgin mobile logo...
When the stuff gets here I'll take some before and after pix and hopefully post here.

This one?

If you wanted it as close to the original as possible, then there's another style out there that looks exactly like the VM faceplate, short of the logo, and comes in multiple colors.

Not sure Daydeal has those though.

That's it. I just wanted one that won't smudge with prints as much. If this one doesn't work out I'll look for something else.

I am unable to shrink any of my digital camera pics to the ridiculously small size of 14.6 k for uploading so I can't share my "new" phone. Sorry about that.

can you not use ImageShack or another hosting site, and just put thumbnails up here?

(that's www.imageshack.us)

Posted by: JonnyQuest

Thanks for the idea. I will try that.

JQ no prob... I come from a Technology Forum very well known on the web, and everyone uses a Host site like ImageShack, or PhotoPhile or somthing else. Some host it themselves ... but 99% use IS or PP.

Couple of questions, hope someone has the answers.

Where can I get the faceplate that looks like this?:

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/...m8910usy4ze.jpg

Is there a desktop charger made for the Flasher? If so, where can I get one?

PS I've Googled all morning and didn't get anywhere!

Thanks!

A. That's the US Cellular imprinted faceplate. It's basically the OEM Audiovox plate with US Cellular printed on it. You might be able to eventually find one on eBay, but I don't know what kind of response you'd get from most carriers if you tried to buy one from them. The faceplate isn't that easily changed, and so I doubt they'd sell them.

B. The only chargers I've seen are the included AC adapter, a slimline travel AC adapter in which the prongs fold back, and of course the USB cable.

Do you care what it is branded at. Look on ebay for OEM 8910 Faceplate or OEM 8910 Housing

EDIT:

Cheeck this one out

I don't want it branded at all. The picture I posted just happened to have US Cellular on it.

I want the original Audiovox OEM faceplate, no branding on it. Like this:

Thanks for the idea, I will check out EBay. There was one for sale but the auction was over. The seller described it as "like new" but the pictures I saw had scratches on the faceplate and the body. Unacceptable!

The Sprint version (8912) is basically the same but in blue and with a Sprint logo.

$15 is a bit much though, if you just want the faceplate.

You know, it wouldn't hurt to contact audiovox to see if they sell theirs.

Is the new faceplate as good as fit and quality as the OEM and how difficult was it to fit. Thanks, Chris in Pago Pago.

Posted by: JonnyQuest

That one fit perfectly. I bought an OEM faceplate off EBay and replaced the solid blue one with it. I didn't think it fit as well around the outer screen, dust would gather underneath the window. They are very easy to replace with a small screwdriver and a steady hand.
I have since sold that phone and bought service with Amp'd. I have a Motorola Hollywood phone now. Love the phone, love the service.
