Just got my GD87 and have some questions...

I just got it and I am in love with it. I just got done charging, so i've been playing around with it for the past hour. Here are my first set of questions...

1. How do you edit a phone book entry thats on the sim, and get it to save under the same name without making a new entry?

2. Is there a way to get "VoiceStream" off the background and is there a way to get the time off the background?

THats all i can think of right now...I know i'll think of more stuff i dont know how to do by the end of the night.

ALSO, does anyone know any WAP sites i can go to on the phone and download backgrounds and ringtones? Please, since i dont have IrDA or datacable, i need to do it that way.

THANKS again!!!

1) Edit the entry located on your sim, and when you choose 'save', make sure you choose the same memory position as the original one was in. That way it will just override the old one.

2) There's no way to remove the provider logo on this phone.

3) To remove the time from the screen, go to the "Applications" menu, and choose "Clock Function" ---> "Clock Format" ---> "Display Format" and choose 'disabled'. That will remove the clock from the inner screen, but unfortunately, it will remove it from the lcd on the outside of the phone as well. And no, there's no way around this problem if you were going to ask.

4) Like someone mentioned to you earlier, go to wap.panasonicbox.com on your mobile phone. You can download new photos and polyphonic ringtones there.

Enjoy the new mobile

Thank you very much.

I edited a phonebook entry like you said, and stored it in the same spot and it said "over write" and i said yes and when I went to look at it, it wasn't changed.

Another question...how do you add a picture to an existing phone book entry. Let me see if I have it right and dont know why it doesnt work. First take a picture, save it, go to their entry, edit it, select the picture for the picture (says uploaded image), save, sim phonebook, item drop (i dont know what that means), ok, location #, overwrite, then ok. But it doesn't show up. I am really confused when it comes to this stuff.

Another instance...i went to add a number to an existing entry, and when i save it in the same position, and everything, it doesn't show up...WHY?!?

Thats all for now...
THANKS!!!

I'm not sure why you can't overwrite properly... it always works fine for me.
As for adding photos to peoples names, you MUST do it in the mobile phone book only, you can't use the sim phone book for this feature. The same goes for personal ringtones, email addresses etc.

I would suggest you do what most of us GD87 users did... delete all of the entries on your sim card and put them all on the mobile phone book All of the features will work this way

Well I am putting them on both. If you go to: Menu -> phonebook -> Browse -> By Name -> Mobile Phonebook; you can view the entries JUST stored on the phone, if you select "All Phonebook" you get the Phone PLUS Sim. I dont want to delete them from my SIM because I use them on my other phones. I am thinking about ditching all my other phones for this one though, so I might just do what you said. It will take a WHILE to do, but it will be worth it!

Thanks!!

PS: I think I cant overwrite entries that are on the SIM card, only the ones that are stored on the phone....oh well...i'll have to do what you said!!

[edit] -> How many names can the phone hold?

Posted by: Espo

panasonicbox.com doesn't have a USA listed in "region" and "T-Mobile" listed in the providers... will it still work?

Posted by: urban4u

I would strongly suggest that you delete all of the names on your sim card... If you don't do that, then when someone calls, the phone will read the number from the sim card by default and not from the mobile phone book. Therefore, even if you have someones photo and a personal ringtone stored in the mobile phone book, it won't work since the callers information will be read from the sim card instead. Try it out for yourself...

The mobile phone can hold up to 200 entries [each entry can hold 3 phone numbers and 3 email addresses]

As for PanasonicBox.com, you can use it even though there is no North American support. You will need to sign up with your EMEI number of you phone though, so hopefully it's brand new Once you connect to wap.panasonicbox.com on your mobile, you can download anything on there... no matter what region of the world you are located.

Hi!

One question regarding the calendar of the phone. I've heard that it sucks, does it? Can you put many events to same date?

Posted by: Espo

I haven't played with the calander yet, so I couldnt tell you. I'll let you know later, after i play with it!

Well I spent all night last night putting all my names into the phone's memory and out of the sim memory. I have a couple questions now....

1. Is there a way to make the picture bigger when a contact calls you (the picture you saved in their phonebook entry)? They are so small and at the bottom when people call me, just wanted to see if they can get bigger.

2. Can somone please post a link to a place where I can get software so I can use IrDA on the phone and my computer (i still have to go purchase an IrDA port for my computer).

FYI, I was sending photo's to my friend's T68 through IrDA, its fast and easy, the only thing is, the quality of the pictures on the T68 is horrible, since the display doesn't have the same resolution.

PS: urban4u, your website is really amazing, I love the flash work!

What you have to do with IrDA? If you send jsut midis or pictures, you don't need any program. At least it worked so with my previous Nokia 7210 and SE's T300...

I just found that out!!

Posted by: urban4u

1) Unfortunately, there is no way to make the caller ID photos bigger on the screen
2) If you do a search on these forums for Panasonic software, you'll find the post where someone linked the GD88 software to their site. You can download it freely from there.

And like bull stated, you don't really need IrDa to transfer files, you can simply send and receive them through the email function on your phone

PS. - Thank you for the compliment on my site. I appreciate it

It's better than the S100's. Yes you can put many events on the same date.
