LG Contents Bank software for LG C2000

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: niedrgrl27

Anyone have this or familiar with it? I got a software package that has this and some other programs for my phone. One being the LG PC Sync program which connects to my phone with no problems (USB). But for whatever reason the Contents Bank cannot connect to my phone and I cannot move ringtones from my PC to my phone. Which of course is the reason why I got the software in the first place.

Any suggestions?

Posted by: jpmccord

From what I've read, Contents Bank is a program developed for use with non-US phones. The PC Sync software sometimes works with a US phone, but something is preventing the Contents Bank software from working. Hopefully LG actually adds better support for this phone soon before Cingular subscribers organize a small revolt.

Posted by: SeththeRuthless

Yup, that's the exact situation I've found myself in. You can see my post detailing my experiances in this thread:http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=6237978. You probably downloaded some of the same software off of the UK site that I did.

It really sucks that LG doesn't offer the Contents Bank software for US phones. I'm reasonably satisfied with my LG C2000, if only I could transfer pictures off of it via my data cable!

I would hope that as it becomes more popular (Cingular seems to be handing them out like candy: I paid $10 for mine with only a 1 year contract), a third-party software company will offer support.

Posted by: outontheporch

hey just wanted to keep this bumped...I too have an LG C2000, haven't found a way to transfer junk over. Tried bitpim, no go. Hopefully we'll find a solution soon!

Posted by: jpmccord

Yes, hopefully. I have a friend who works for Cingular, and he says that's the one thing he can't understand about them (and most other companies, too) -- they don't offer any quick, easy, or FREE way to send your own stuff from your OWN phone to your OWN computer.

It's really bad business. If I own the phone and the computer, I should be able to pay someone for a cable and move data freely back and forth all I want.

Posted by: SeththeRuthless

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. If someone doesn't step up and address this fairly soon, I'll quite likely get another phone. I'd love a Treo, but they're a bit on the pricey and bulky side, not to mention I already have a Tungsten E (it's a sweet little PDA). I'm considering a Nokia 6620, since they take an MMC card that I could just pop into my computer. They're not that expensive, either.

Again, the C2000 is a great little phone if you could actually transfer pics with your computer!

I have called Susteen (makers of DataPilot) and the gentleman said they are in the process of writing an update for their software for the LG C2000. He said that they have had many requests and it is a popular phone. He also said they hoped to have the update done by the end of the year. They will email me when an update is available. You can call their customer support at 1-866-787-8336. They are on the West Coast (PST). Their office hours start at 8 A.M., so call them and let them know you are interested.

hey thats good news! im looking foward to that

AVOID CINGULAR WIRELESS!!!

OOooohh, have we got a deal for you; simply sign up for two years and get a great deal on our LG C2000! Don't do it!!! They are trying to steer you to actually pay to download pics from your own phone (25 cents per). When I registered a complaint with the FCC I got a call from some chick saying she was calling from the Cingular Presidents office and here is what she said: "Did you ask if you could download photos directly to your PC at no charge when you bought the phone?" Whatever, blondee.

Susteen is working on the software but what a scam by Cingular; once my contract is up I'm out of here! I will be bad mouthing Cingular for a very long time on this one!

Down with Cingular Wireless, forever!

Ok, here the situation: I just received my data cable today. I plugged it into my USB port and it installed the prolific drivers.
My computer sees it as COMM 4 (USB\VID_067B&PID_2303\6&2EF81293&0&2).
Using the LG PC Sync for the L1100 (from the UK) it will not see my phone. Are the port settings needing change? It's BAUD is 9600 8, N, 1, none on the Flow control.
Should I change any of these?
My other half has the LG C1300 and I've tried DataPilot on it and it refuses to see the phone also. I even installed the Susteen drivers for cable P124 and it didn't seem to help. (The port settings were the same as with the prolific drivers)

Please help or shoot me!

I've contacted LG and they replied:
"We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing. Our handsets are made carrier specific which means that they are made according to the service provider's request. Per contractual agreement we have with your service provider, LG will not be providing any software for any of our current or newer model handsets. Previously, the LG PC SYNC software was available free of charge for our GSM model handsets. However, with the current technology, this software is no longer compatible. For this reason, our customers are referred to Susteen who develops software similar to the LG PC SYNC. I apologize if this software is not currently available. However, unfortunately, there is nothing that LG can do to expedite software availability since we no longer manufacture software that will meet your request.

Thank you again for inquiring of LG Electronics.

Tyria"

Sounds like the ball is in CINGULAR's court.
This is getting extremely frustrating.

Posted by: gdkramer

UPDATE: I found a second set of prolific drivers at USB-DRIVERS.COM (http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/125/125442.htm)
I uninstalled all previous drivers and installed the new ones.
My LG PC Sync for the L1100 now lets me transfer my OUTLOOK information to my phone.
They also let me access my other half's phone using DataPilot.
It looks like I'm making headway here.
I guess I'll unload the gun and put it away.
I'll keep you posted on the DataPilot software update, when I get it.

Posted by: kuntakunte12

I use the lg content software for my lg L1200 phone and it works just fine except that I cannot trhasfer java games. I had a lot of trouble at first but i somehow figured it out after looking through this thread http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/404631-1.html
and also downloading a driver from my laptop manufacturer's official website which is toshiba

Posted by: gdkramer

That is the same version of software that I am using. Only the LG PC Sync 2.5 (the phone book, schedule and memo) works. LG Contents bank does not work with the LG C2000. But atleast I now have all my phone numbers and appointments in my phone. If anyone finds a Contents bank that works, please keep us posted.

Posted by: gdkramer

Ok, I have another one to ponder. Does anyone know of a way to take the audio from a voice memo and use it as a ring tone? It shows up in my Media / Ringtones & Audio, but not in settings/sounds/ringtones. Any ideas? I was figuring that might be one way to record your own ringtones.
Strange you can take a picture using the camera, save it and use it as wallpaper. But you can't seem to save audio and use it as a ringtone.

Posted by: SeththeRuthless

As far as I know, a recorded audio file is restricted from being set as a ringtone. As far as the acutual mechanics of it (software/files and whatnot) it would be pretty straightforward, but I'm pretty sure Cingular doesn't want to give up it's lucrative ringtone sales market. A friend of mine with a Nokia flip phone (I forget the model, but it's got a camera with a flash, FM tuner and takes an MMC memory card) can record audio clips and set them as ringtones. Then again, he doesn't have Cingular either, though.

Posted by: gdkramer

Seth, I contacted LG and was told that the C2000 was made to specifications for CINGULAR by LG. I think you are right that CINGULAR is trying to make us pay extra for the convenience of changing our ringtones and uploading our pictures. Let's just hope that Susteen does crack the code and gets DataPilot updated.

Posted by: gdkramer

I've posted it on another forum, but here it is for here, the L1100 LG PC Sync software link. It at least allows you to utilize your OUTLOOK contacts and scheduler/calendar.

http://uk.wowlg.com/common/proc_dow.../L1100_UK_1.zip

Posted by: gdkramer

And yet another C2000 question: Has anyone sent their own MP3 via MMS to their phone and used it as a ringtone? I have yet to try it, just wanted to know if someone has had success with it.

Posted by: C2000Mad

First I called LG they told me to contact susteen about the LG C2000. Susteen told me that the LG C2000 will be supported by Data Pilot in about a month. Im just telling you all because I am extremely happy and I hope that all of you are too!

Posted by: gdkramer

Well, I was told on the 7th of December that they (Susteen) were hoping to have it by the end of the month (December). All they had at that point was the syncing of the phone book and the calendar. I've learned not to get too excited until you can see the finished product. I am on an email list for the announcement of it's release.
I will post it as soon as I get it.

Posted by: C2000Mad

Yeah thats true. I hope when it comes out cingular isnt going to have us charged for taking stuff to and from OUR phone. DO you think that would end up happening. Because I heard of people being charged to take pictures of thier phones.

Posted by: gdkramer

Cingular charges you if you send and receive content (i.e. pictures and audio files) via the MMS system. They can not charge you if you do it using a data cable. Let's hope that Susteen gets DataPilot set up so you can change your ringtones and extract pictures from your phone using the data cable. So far I'm still using my data cable and the LG PC Sync software to change my phone numbers and download my scheduler to my phone. That alone is great for me, but new ringtones sure would be a nice change.

Posted by: Joe Krasuski

Hey man. I'm having the same problem. All I can do is get it to download my contacts and thats it. If you find out a way to get ringtones let me know.

Posted by: SeththeRuthless

It would be great if we would one day be able to transfer pics and ringtones from our phones or our PCs. The idea that a company could intentionally restrict us from doing it is idiotic, but I guess it's done all in the interest of greed-driven capitalism.

As an aside, I have been able to get custom ringtones on my phone, but it costs me about 90 cents apiece (since it involves downloading them over the WAP network at 1 cent per kilobyte). I ran across the info for doing such here. I'll describe it more concisely though:

1. You begin by formatting the MP3 file that you wish to use as a ringtone. You can begin with any type of audio file, just as long as you save it as a conventional CBR MP3. I use CoolEdit and save the files as a 30-second mono MP3 at 24kbps. The quality of the file is still better than the speaker is able to reproduce, so it works out just about right. The more you compress the file, the less it costs to download it since it is smaller. Mine are right about 88 kilobytes.

2. Upload the file to a FTP server. The best I have found is www.yourfreespace.net They allow you upload MP3s (many FTP servers won't), give you a generous 500MB limit (far more than you need for this!) and it also has a very easy-to-use interface that allows you to upload and manage files without using a separate FTP transfer program. Oh, it's also FREE and easy to sign up for!

3. Once you have your account on the FTP site, just go to your page with the MP3 files on your phone using the "go to url" function in the Media Net menu. Once you're there, just go to the hyperlink for the MP3 file, the phone will spend a minute or so to download it and then ask you if you want to "listen" or "save" the file. Just choose "save" and it will then appear in the ringtones list where you can use it like any of the built-in ringtones.

I hope that helps. It's still a crutch and Cingular still gets their darn 88 cents out of you, but at least it's cheaper than their ringtones and you can use ringtones you couldn't get anywhere else. I have songs that wouldn't EVER be on ringtone sites, so I enjoy the uniqueness.

Posted by: outontheporch

do you know what the filesize limit is for downloading mp3's via medianet? I tried your method just now and it gave me a "File too large" error. The mp3 I was truing to get was 376k.

Posted by: C2000Mad

I believe that the limit is 128k, a friend of mine told me and on many forums it also states that the limit is 128k.

Posted by: gdkramer

The file size limit is 300K (approx 30 seconds), I have successfully sent via MMS to my phone. The only problem is that CINGULAR does not let you use your sent mp3's as ringtones.
It does show up in your ringtones/audio folder (my media), but can only be played, if you go into your ringtone setup, it is not listed there.

Posted by: gdkramer

Well, I've tried SeththeRuthless' idea of posting mp3 on website. I posted a 285K mp3 on my website, accessed it using my phone and downloaded it. It showed up in my ringtones and let me select it as a ringtone. Problem is, it made a single click, I changed to a different ringtone and all you could hear was a single click. I went down the list and every ringtone did just the single click. I removed the battery and sim card, replaced both and same problem. I deleted my mp3 file and did the battery removal and sim removal, again. Replaced both and now my normal ringtones returned.
That was a waste of money trying it.

Posted by: SeththeRuthless

I can't say why it didn't work, all I know is that it's worked great for me and some of my friends who have tried the same method as well. It could possibly be due to the large file size. If the download limit is 300k, there still may be problems due to a lack of memory. I don't yet know of a way to check the actual available ringtone memory, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't enough space to save the entire file on your phone. This must have caused a glitch that messed up your other ringtones until you re-booted the phone.

Even after deleting most the the original mono-phonic ringtones off the phone (the only ones that can be removed), It will still only hold three of my 88k mp3 rintones. When I try to download and save a fourth, it informs me of insuficient memory and asks if I wish to cancel or overwrite an existing file.

There's really no reason to have a file much over 100kb. The mp3 should be compiled into a single-channel mono file. A stereo file of the same quality is twice the size, and the phone has a single mono speaker anyway! On top of that, the tiny little speaker doesn't reproduce a super-clean sound anyway, so at 24-36kbps, the quality of the file still exceeds the capabilities of the speaker. Finally, 30 seconds is as long as the phone will ring before diverting the call to voicemail, so don't bother with making it longer.

I'm sorry if it's not working for you guys. If you did it the same way I did, it should work the same way it did for me.

Posted by: gdkramer

Seth, I'll give it another shot. What program are you using to edit your mp3's? And what parameters are you setting them to? I see 24-36k rate, MONO, and limit to about 88k in size. I have Audacity V 1.2.4 I have also removed all existing CINGULAR ringtones that are possible. Since you have had success with it, I will keep at it until I get it right.

Posted by: SeththeRuthless

I used CoolEdit to edit my mp3s. It's a pretty powerful audio editing program (in fact, I probably only know how to use 20% of it!), but you don't need much beyond the very basic.

All I really did was cut the file down to the 30 second clip I wanted (I cut to an exact 30.000 seconds, but precise length doesn't matter). I then normalized the file (basically just made sure it was amplified as much as possible without clipping) to make sure it would be as loud as it could be. All I did then was use the "save as" to save it as a mono mp3 file at 24kbps. In this format, they're right about 88k, like I said.

Formatting might be a bit different with other audio software, but the end result should the the same regardless.

If you want to try to download one of mine just to see if it works, just open up your WAP to: http://www.yourfreespace.net/users/sethhoffman I have about 12 or so files up there all in the format that I've talked about, and they work great on my phone. My phone won't hold more than three at a time in the memory, though.

Hope this helps guys!

Posted by: gdkramer

Seth, I just downloaded CoolEdit and will give that a try. I tried doing another mp3 using Audacity again, and I had the same exact problem. I looked at the songs you have on your site, but not exactly my style. I'm a bit of an old fart at 47 years old.
Thanks for the info though and I will give it a try.

Posted by: gdkramer

Seth,
Thank you very much!
I edited my mp3 in CoolEdit, saved it to mono, uploaded it to myfreespace account,
went to myfreespace page with my mp3, saved it to my phone and it works fantastic.
You are absolutley brilliant!
And thanks again.

Any new news on how to transfer pics, sound etc etc?

Posted by: gdkramer

Not yet, I just checked Susteen's website, they have added a bunch of phones. But unfortunately none of them is the LG C2000. I've learned at my age, you just have to be patient.

Posted by: adedude

Wow, a couple months have passed since I've checked up on C2000 threads but I see there has still been no progress.

Did anyone ever try to get ahold of the BitPM people to develop support for the C2000?

Posted by: skyjunky

Yes, I got a loaner phone. work is in progress...

Posted by: adedude

Thanks skyjunky!

Posted by: Moonchaser

Skyjunky, I don't know what we'd do without ya!

Posted by: gdkramer

Why are the last three posts in the LG C2000 software forum?
They do not pertain to the topic.

Posted by: adedude

Actually, they do. skyjunky is from bitpm and he has been working to develop bitpm support for the C2000.

Posted by: gdkramer

Ahhh, thanks for clarifying that for me. I did not know his position.

Posted by: TheresaB

I just called Susteen again and the woman told me to call back next month, that they will have the upgrade for the LG C2000 at a cost of $59.95. I'll believe it when I see it. I got my phone a couple months ago for the picture benefit. I have to wonder how a company can sell a product with that feature and no supporting software. Isn't that faulse advertising?

Posted by: gdkramer

The problem is CINGULAR, they want as much money from us as possible. They want you to upload your pictures via their MMS system at a per kilobyte charge. Same for downloading ringtones to your phone. We are dealing with a greedy bunch of people here. As for Susteen, I'm losing all faith in them also. I've been told a couple of different dates. My software is about to expire with them and I will not pay to renew it if they can not support my current phone. Let's just hope Bitpim can get the job done soon. Let's keep our fingers crossed and not keep feeding our money to these greedy bastages.

Posted by: byancey

Since Susteen has failed to provide any support for the LG200 I am to a point of just throwing my LG2000 in the garbage and buying a camera phone that I can download to my pc without going through Cingular.

Can anyone recomend an alternative phone? I primarily just use the phone for calls and want to be able to take quality pics of my family and download to my pc without per use charges. What about these razor phones?

I'll stay with Cingular to the end of my contract but after that I am switching networks; any reccomendations on an alternative network would be appreciated as well.

I would spend $100 to $150 on another phone...

Posted by: skyjunky

I have gotten bitpim to access the phonebook and calendar.
I have not managed to get access to ringtones or pictures on this phone.
Ringtones look like a lost cause at the moment. Retrieving pictures from the camera is close. To try to complete this I need some help from someone with a LG 1xxx phone who has been able to copy file from the phone to the PC (pictures or ringtones) and is computer savvy, if you are able to help send me a PM.

Posted by: Koolfire

Why are ringtones a lost cause? Is it something in the firmware that doesn't let us access that part of the memory?

Posted by: skyjunky

The phone allows me to send ringtones to it and it acknowledges receipt however the file never appears on the phone. It is possible that I am using the wrong command but with no data from LG about how the phone works I am not able to figure it out.
It is possible that some info will come available later to help, but at the moment I'm not going to spend any more time on them.

Posted by: Koolfire

Skyjunky, do you think the authors from here could help you? http://lg1400.ampedhost.com/index.html They made a program for the LG 1400.

Posted by: locaitaliana

I was reading through all these comments, and people stated that they received the answer "by the end of the month".....
Today is February 3rd 2006, and i JUST CALLED THEM, and they said "by the end of the month"
Can someone please crack this phone and tell me how I can put ringers on it? The ringers that I bought from Cingular STINK and they are OVERPRICED.

Posted by: locaitaliana

I meant DATAPILOT.....im just mad!!!!

Posted by: adedude

I'd place my bets on skyjunky. Gooo bitpim!

I'm so glad I have a k750 though. =)

Posted by: gdkramer

My version of Susteen DataPilot is due for for renewel, since my current phone is the LG C2000 and DataPilot doesn't support it, I don't see Susteen getting my money for the renewal fee. Sounds like the "by the end of the month" is the standard for their sales people to blow smoke up our butts. And if you think this is bad, wait until you try getting a FastForward device from CINGULAR, I got mine and they can't seem to get it to work with my phone either. They promised me a device when I bought the phone, I had to make numerous calls to get approval to go to a local CINGULAR store to pick one up. Took it back and they exchanged it, second one does the same thing. The store employees tried it, it didn't work for them either. They got on the phone with their tech support people and can not figure it out. I think it is because of the proprietary software CINGULAR has LG program into the phone that is screwing it up.
Has anyone had any success with the LG C2000 and using the FastForward device?

Posted by: skyjunky

You can download a test version of bitpim that supports the C2000 from http://www.4shared.com/file/840956/...cial-setup.html
There is nothing in the help about the C2000 yet, that will not appear until the official release.
If you have any problems post back to this thread not the bitpim mailing list, as it is an unofficial release.
Features supported on this phone are phonebook, calendar and memos only.
I have been unable to get the ringers or wallpaper or camera working, the phone craps out partway through picture recovery and ignores pictures/ringers sent to it.

Posted by: outontheporch

I seriously need to switch phones.

Hey skyjunky, I installed bitpim but it did not detect my phone. Do you think I have a bad cable or something? If so I'm not too sure what to do about it. Someone earlier posted some drivers but those did not seem to match my cable.

Posted by: mojavekroc

Skyjunky,

Do you know if BitPim will be releasing a 64 bit version of BitPim in the future?

Also, I am not aware of any 64 bit drivers for LG phones. I have one PC with Windows XP x64 Professional and would like to be able to use this machine for file tranfers. PCs with 64 bit processors and operating systems are screaming fast!

Windows Vista is just around the corner and will be a 64 bit platform, so hopefully some of the software (BitPim) and hardware (USB cables) will be trying to update for the release of Vista later this year.

Do you know if any of the USB cable manufacturers are currently working on updating drivers for 64 bit? This has been very frustrating.

Posted by: skyjunky

No plans that I know of.
32-bit apps run fine on 64-bit XP.
32-bit drivers do not. Once someone releases 64-bit drivers I suspect that bitpim will just work, if not I expect it will be worked on. If you had a serial cable (not USB) you could probably use the C2000 on 64-bit XP now with this test version of bitpim because you don't need a driver to make it work.
A 64-bit processor will not make file transfer to the phone any faster, the phone and communication transport layer (USB/Bluetooth)are the limiting factor.

Posted by: mojavekroc

Thanks for the answer.

Actually, many 32 bit applications will not work with 64 bit (anything with a 16 bit installer). I haven't really tried BitPim because with no driver it wouldn't work anyway.

The reason I had made reference to the speed of a 64 bit machine is because many people do not understand why someone would run this operating system. It does burn DVDs faster and gaming is way faster.

I have contacted LG about the drivers and their low level tech was trying to tell me that LG doesn't develop the drivers, Microsoft does. That is complete nonsense.

I was hoping that maybe BitPim would be able to influence some of the manufacturers that make cables to work on producing 64 bit drivers..

My handset is a VX8100. The information about the C2000 and it not needing a driver with a serial cable sounds interesting. What phones would that cable work with?

Would a serial cable for a VX8100 work with BitPim and a 64 Bit OS?

Has anyone though about class action against Cingular?

I like many others were told by Cingular representatives that we would be able to upload and download from the phones and now we Find out from LG that it's in the contract not to develop the software so we can do what we were told we were going to be able to do.

You lead, I'll follow, and the lawyers will win. But MAYBE Cingular will learn their lesson.

Posted by: whip

Well I will do some more looking into this and see if something can be done.

I don't care about money I want what I was told I could do but can't.

Posted by: byancey

Please, please, do not re-sign with Cingular wireless when your contract is up. Spread dissention at the local level; every opportunity you get to tell others about Cingular's lying ways you should take.

A class action lawsuit would be great but who has the time and money for that?

I too was mislead about being able to download photos; I was even asked if I wanted to buy the cables when I bought my phone.

What you can do: Go to the FCC website and file a complaint. You'll get a call from Cingular in response; I was contacted by some bimbo at corporate that asked me: "Did you specifically ask if you would be able to download photos? No, well then it's your own fault." At least the complaint end up costing Cingular the time and money they pay people to respond to complaints.

Also; request literature by mail from Cingular, this also costs them money. Stop at a pay phone and dial their customer service toll free; you don't have to wait for them to answer; just leave the phone off the hook and walk away. It will tie up their lines and cost them more money by having to pay someone to hang up on an empty line.

Oh, and pay your bill through the mail. Don't do it online. This will cost them more than electronic payments.

Cingular sucks.

Posted by: adedude

As far as I'm concerned all cell phone companies are evil. Next time, I will be picking the lesser of two evils.

Everyone should complain here.

I am waiting on a reply from a lawyer about doing a class action suit against Cingular and will post when I hear something.

Posted by: gdkramer

I filed my complaint with the FCC, concerning the two different problems that I have been having with Cingular. I shall see if we get any kind of satisfaction from this.

Posted by: T350Z

can someone help me. I have a LG KG800 and the problem i have is that when i use the LG contents bank when it tries to conntect i get this pop up saying 'timeout' help?

Posted by: bosha

I disagree any class action is possible against Cingular. Yes Cingular makes money when customer send pics and other data, however if they had such restriction for their customers phones, why this problem exists only with LG c2000. I have Nokia 6102 (Cingular) and I can transfer anything from Phone to PC and back. There are LG models that allow file transfer. For example, CU500. The problem I think is LG, not Cingular. I think that those who makes software for LG phones do a lousy job. I used to have LG G4050. I found at least 3 bugs in the software. The most significant was that one-touch-dial would not work with button "2". Replaced the phone. It had the same problem. Firmware update did not have a fix. C2000 also has at least one bug. Perhaps lg software engineers are lazy or stupid. That's why nobody can transfer for free to/from C2000. Every phone(they are not cheap) must come with software and drivers for connecting to PC. NOKIA has FREE!!!!! sofware with drivers for their phones.
