The HK version is also tri-band, just for some legal issuses, they can't advertis as "Tri-band". I have called many providers as well as Panasonic HK to verify this information already, although they keep telling me the phone is Dual band, they did also tell me the phone have the 1900mhz band. So the conclusion is the HK version of GD55 is "Dual" band, but it also have 1900mhz.

I do not understand why the Chinese make it so confusing. If it is truly a Panasonic GD55, then it is triband. There was never a dual band version.
Good Luck

I was in Bangkok last week. The GD 55 was on sale for US $200 at MBK (fourth floor) to the back right side. They told me it was tri band but i pulled the manual and it did not list the GSM 1900 band in the specs. Another board member clearly stated that all GD55 phones are tri band and have a 1900 GSM band setting. The manaul is misprinted by accident or on purpose. I should have forked over the money but was worried that it would not function when brought home. Bring your 1900 GSM sim chip with you and pop it in the phone in HK. See if you can find the 1900 setting and see what happens. P.S. Let me know what the price is for the GD 55 in HK.

Just got a pink one from HK about a week ago for $2000 HKD (about $400 CDN).
It's the Jay Chow version.
