Interview with Cingular

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an Interview scheduled with Cingular here soon. I posted an app on their website more as a joke than anything...but they seem REALLY interested in me. The HR guy called me to set up the interview, and I told him I only have evenings open because I work, and he still wanted me to come in....whenever was best for me.

Now I technically work for cingular already. I'm in an outsourced call center, but I have a cingular ID and everything.

My passion is technology....any technology. Preferrably computers, but they don't pay as much for salesmen to sell computers....and I think they should. And I'm not talking about bestbuy salesmen either....I mean a REAL computer store....I guess CompUSA comes close....but I don't think they pay even as much as Cingular does. But cell phones are a passion of mine too, and we all know Cingular's phones have all the bells and whistles.

It's just that I've been reading the forums lately, and yes, I do understand this will be a quota job, but I just really worry about what kind of work conditions and pressure I'm going to have in a quota based job.

The one plus side though is the store they told me they are interviewing for is a new cingular store going up. This new store is in an area where only ONE other wireless business is located, and that's a nextel-exclusive agent called Marshall Wireless....so I really don't feel there would be much competition in my area, which means that we should probably have pretty good sales.

So what do you guys think? Is it worth the risk to leave a stable, non-quota job for a cingular store in a fresh area? Is this a major opportunity, or something I should pass on?

trust me, dont walk into cingular sales.

the only position id work for cingular would be ceo as clearly hes getting a nice big fat 5 million bonus while we get a nice shaft in pay.

thats right.

after all, where do you think that those 5M bones will be coming from? thin air? NOT. it'll be coming from the thousands upon thousands of front line employees (like yourself) who'll be getting more and more rear-ended each and every day.

I think its safe to assume about one thing w/ Cingular and that is: they dont care about no one (as in their customers AND their front line employees) but the queen bee (which would be Sigman) himself and no one else.

welcome to the new world of "raising the bar".

I swear we have some of the most rotten apples in this board... not everyone experiences the same things some of you pessimists complain about all the time... and stop your whining... I know a 100 other people on here that have to read this garbage every day want to say it so I will just say it for them... if you dont like working for Cingular or one of its agents GET OUT... quit littering our forums with poor attitudes that do nothing but promote negativity and bring people down...

all of us on the crop expierience our issues.

im more vocal than some of them are/were.

i dont hate working for cingular per se, but there are things that tick me off.

cut my commission on a features/acts/upgrades, yet the ceo gets 5 million in bonus.

jack up quota and write me up even though more than 50% of my fellow workers didnt do the same.

if this trend keeps up, cingulars going to need to replace roughly 80% of the RETAIL PERSONAL in MY market.

i havent had a day off in 2 weeks, im working open-close almost all days because we lost sales reps in my store. im sure we'll get wal-mart type employees who cant.

i'd be a tad more optimistic if cingular realized that our stores havent been hitting their high quotas in recent months and stop writing up more than 50% of their sales staff due to this.

last month 72% of my market didnt EVEN HIT 80%.

they didnt even HIT 80% of their assigned quota. but thats ok, lets write up the managers and sales reps.

if they write up my coworkers im simply going to demand their ARSM gets a write up as well.

If they can't vent here where can they vent?

I didn't see any rules stating the cingular employee forum is to be used for positive conversations only.

And how did I know and could have bet millions that you would be the one to hold this response...

No one is being held at gunpoint... and I too need this place to vent occassionally...

However its the same 3 or 4 people all the time with the same crap... but not one of you are doing a thing to change your situation... How can you continue to gripe, piss and moan EVERY DAY on this board and not do something to change the way life is going for yourself...

I guess more or less I feel sorry for your misery and your choice to do nothing to help yourselves...

I'm not sure what you are talking about since there are several people on this board that have complained and have quit including me. So I as well as others did do something about our misery and did help ourselves.

I continue to post because I believe it is wrong what cingular is doing. Instead of laying off thousands who would then rightfully be able to collect unemployment and move on cingular has cut their pay and effectively forces employees to quit and thus not collect unemployment or to continue working with a severe cut in pay and at a salery much lower than the industry standard.

And I will continue to vent here so that anyone who want's to join cingular will know exactly what to expect.

My hope is that word will get out and cingular will have no other choice but to change it's ways.
Just like consumers can use their collective power to influence change in an industry so can employees ban together to force change from their employer.

ummm, first of all, I dont work for Cingular nor would I ever work for such a company that treats most of their front line employees like dirt. how do I know this? 2 main reasons why:

1) I see the complaining on this section of the forum because I can certainly relate to all the complaints and grief. (and how do I know this? the next paragraph will tell you why...)

2) I tend to hang out quite a bit at one of my local blue stores in my area and I see, on a first hand basis how bad some of these employees are treated by their very own employer. these are some of my very good friends and it kills me to see them sometimes on how unhappy they are. unfortunately though, most of these people cant afford to say "F-it, I quit!" w/o having something better lined up first. so in the meantime, they have to continue to be in their orange misery of a hell-hole until something better comes along.

-so just because someone continues to complain about their job(s) doesnt always mean that they're not trying to do something about it. it just takes some time, luck and a little bit of hope.
