VM-4500 USB transfer issue???

Just bought the USB cable and disc for the driver, but the two do not connect. It downloaded something called the Sanyo Modem, but I dont want to use the phone as a modem, I wanted the ability to edit my phone book and download pics and sound files. Am I missing something, did I get the wrong driver disc with the USB cable since it only shows a modem icon in the Mycomputer/manager files. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
