Please be patient and give me some advice about what to do..
Okay so I've just bought an N840 from a fellow HOFO member two days ago. Once I took it home, I started transferring pictures from my comp via the infrared port to use as desktop wallpaper on the phone. After an hour or so, while I was changing wallpaper, the phone froze on me (while it was loading picture thumbnails), and restarted on its own. After restarting, the phone gave me the "NEC" screen, then came a screen with a "Please wait" with an arrow going in circle. After several seconds, the phone froze again and restarted again on its own. This cycle has continued till even now, 2 days later.
I've even taped this so you can check it out here (watch with realplayer - 0.56 second long):

What's weird is that, if I take out my sim card and turn the phone on, the phone would ask for my sim card, and when i turn it off, it would give me a "good bye" screen - there's no hanging, no restarting, everything seemed to be normal. BUt once I put my sim card in, the restarting and shutting off resumes.
I'm sure that my sim card is 100% functional coz right now i'm using it on my original phone.
Has any of this happened to you guys? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

just to help out, does anyone know how to boot an NEC phone into a -safe mode- or anything where it resets itself back to system defaults?
alternatively, check the manual for anything that refers to "MASTER RESET".. and see if its possible..

you have to take it to NEC to reflash the phone. It happen on me 2 time already. Then i just sell it. But i am not sure if NEC USA can do it because they don't sell N840 in US. i reflash my N840 in Hong kong.

Anyone noe if bongowireless or any place who can diagnose da phone's hardware n software?

you could try taking the battery out and letting the phone sit for like a month to completely drain it...it might "reset" itself. I know this works for laptops anyways.
