OK, I've encountered a problem with my GD87 and I wonder if I'm missing something obvious or if anybody else has seen this.
I am just re-entering all of my phone numbers into my phone book.
I like to use a capital letter for each word in the name.
So, using the keypad entry I switch to caps mode and start to scroll through the letters.
Problem.
I would expext the letters printed on the keypad to match what appears on the screen.
ABC on 2, DEF on 3 etc
However, when I am in caps mode and scroll through the numbers for the letters I get the following:
2 - ABÃ
3 - ÄEZ
4 - HÈI
5 - KËM
6 - NÎO
7 - ÐPÓ
8 - TYÖ
9 - XØÙ
For anybody not sure, this is the Greek alphabet.
Lower case and numerical appear as they should do, caps in Greek.
Anybody any ideas?
Thanks

It sounds like the input mode is set incorrectly. Try this:
1) Before you enter the name, push the * key to turn the caps lock on.
2) Before you type anything press the menu key in the center of the navigation, and select the option named "Input Mode".
3) Once in that menu, make sure the setting is on "abc" and not the other alpahbet/alphanumerical options.
You should then be able to type your message with the caps lock on in English. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to do so by default however... strange

Ooops.
Doesn't look like this forum liked greek characters.
Anyway, you kind of get the idea.
2 - Alpha, Beta, Gamma
3 - Delta, Epsilon, Zeta
4 - Eta, Theta, Iota
5 - Kappa, Lamda, Mu
etc
I did put the actual symbols in the post above and the forum ahs converted them to something else

Thanks for answering.
It would appear that I am not quite used to the text modes on this phone and I think I was selecting the wrong ones
What I was doing was going to say a new SMS message and immediately the input mode is set to Abc
So first letter is a cap then it goes into lower case.
When I'd entered a space and wanted a cap for the first letter of the second word/name I was hitting the left hand soft key to change input mode.
I thought i was changing to caps, however I was actually changing to ABÃ (gamma).
On your suggestion I started again and opened a fresh SMS message.
Opens on it's default of Abc.
Entered a name, added a space and instead of using the soft key I used the * this enabled me to select Abc again or ABC and then all works well
Thank you very much, I've hopefully banished the greek letters for good now!
