I am confused as to where i should go (which App to choose) when messaging. I would like to know what and when to use versamail and the messaging apps? Is versa mail just for my sprint email, And messaging is for texting and picture mail? All in all i am just a bit confused as to what app to run when messaging? If you guys could atleast clue me in on your tactics that would be great. TIA -Rob

Versamail is an email application. It can used with other email systems besides Sprint's. It has to be setup for this. Messaging is for SMS and/or MMS.

MMS Messaging has size limit (100k). You can setup Versamail to connect to your ISP, I use comcast(POP3) and can check my email via Versamail. I also can check my AIM mail (IMAP). Versamail already has some ISP configuration files for various ISP's stored on the phone.

Do you have the upgrade to Yahoo POP3 on your account?

If I understand correctly, one needs to upgrade the free yahoo email to a premium account for POP3 to work, correct? Or is there a workaround for using the free yahoo?

Exactly.

No there is not (besides checking it through Blazer.)

That kinda sucks about Yahoo. U can't get ur mail using other email accounts unless u upgrade. I just set up Yahoo as a bookmark and access it that way when I open up the internet connection. It's an extra few steps but better than having to pay for the premium service. If u are expecting mail from certain individuals or groups u can set up filters and alerts through Yahoo that will let know when u have Yahoo mail from those persons.

I think when you speak of Sprint email, you speak of Sprint Business Connection? That is a service where you could access your corporate emails. It basically works like this:
- You install a software on your desktop. This software will work with either Lotus Notes or Outlook
- You also need to install a software on your Treo
- the desktop software will detect any changes to your mail. In another words, you need to have your desktop on for it to work. HOWEVER, you do not need to have Lotus Notes or Outlook to be running.
- once there's a change, it will send the change to a Sprint server. This will work for both Calendar AND E-mails.
- Once the server knows there's a new change, it pushes it to your Treo and alerts u.

If you do not want to install the software on your Treo, but wish to use the feature, you can go to bc.sprintpcs.com and check your corporate calendar and emails.

Files can also be shared the same way, through options.

Hope this helps.

In order to use the Business Connection do you not have to have permission from your company's IT manager?

You probably do need to obtain permission. I know at my job, your work group is also charged a fee for setting it up so that you can access your e-mail from a mobile device.

That would depend on your company.

The Business Connection personal edition requires a desktop redirector be installed on the desktop computer. If your IT department allows you to install any software onto your PC at will then you'd be fine. If they have your PC locked so that only they can install new software you'd need their help.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll check with my job's IT department to see if I can install the software. Can it be downloaded from the Sprint website?

Note, there is a monthly charge.

I'm using their $15 unlimited power vision (evdo data) and that includes the bcs. it is charged due to their server usage. if u r seven's beta subscribers on the other hand, you'll be using seven's server so.. you only need permission by IT if they restricted installation. I find it a PAIN dealing the IT folks because they have NO idea and mostly clueless. since there's no installation needed on the server side, or changes to the firewall, I don't need to notify them.

good luck!

Note: do it at your discretion. I've been an IT manager myself, so I do know that end users can be a pain
