How to make webjal connect with the i870?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have read all of the posts about putting ringtones on the 870 through webjal. But when i hit connect to phone it says that it was unable to read the required phone info please make sure all of your settings are right and click retry. I have my setting right (iden,com1,19200) but i can't figure it out. Can someone please help my webjal illiterate-self.

if you are using usb cable make sure u download the driver from www.motorola.com/iden

and in webjal preferences check on "Connect Via USB Connection" and then hit apply
it should be good to go

Is there any type of new webjal version that may need to be installed or updated to. I have tried everything except uninstalling everything and reinstalling it. I am leaving that as a last resort.

Yep, I'm having the same problem. My i860 works fine, but as soon as I hook up the i870 it gives me problems.

This is what I did..I finally figured it out for me. I uninstalled everything. Usb drivers, webjal, and usb ports in device manager.. ALL USB stuff in the device manager. When asked to reboot, I said no to them all until last one, then I rebooted. I then installed usb drivers after all was setup in the device manager. I then installed webjal, and ran the patch. I plugged the i870 in and it let it install the drivers. Then I unplugged the i870 and plugged my i730 in and let all install. I ran Webjal and selected usb and applied. and then login and connect to phone. then I disconnected the i730 and plugged my i870 in and it connected.

Worked for me.

I upload the mp3's to the phone.. and then I can not see them in the ringtone list.. If I goto the audioplayer it says no ringtones.. Then I hit the camera, and scroll through the pages, I can find the ringtones that I have uploaded.. How do I get them to go to the right place???

****** PLEASE HELP ******

I had the same problem. Make sure when you copy mp3s to your card that the filename contains less than 30 letters or numbers (no symbols). Worked for me .

OK Simple Answers

Webjal: Connect old phone first (I used my old 730) let computer do its thing
Check the USB Box under Preferences. Then connect 870 let it
do its thing. Works every time.

MP3's : Rename them using less than 25 Characters.

Your welcome

What should I do if I don't have an old nextel phone. the i870 is my first one. I have the same problem. I chose, Connect via usb connection and it says no usb drivers installed.

I've also had issues - motorola's iden support said their drivers are not compatiable with windows xp media center edition - just an FYI.

I'm still seeking another alternative - very frustrating so I'm open to any suggestions.

I have a mac and tried the Virtual PC - but I'm not having luck with that either.

If you don't have an old phone, try this:
WARNING: this next step will require to edit your registry, please do this at your own risk.

Webjal should be closed

1) Click START >> RUN >> open REGEDIT >> click OK
2) Navigate here: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2000478354-688789844-1957994488-1003\Software\Motorola\WebJAL
3) Change the value of USE_USB from 0 to 1
4) Close REGEDIT (Registry Editor)
5) Open Webjal, login, you will notice that "Connect via USB connection" will be force checked.
6) Connect to phone
7) Webjal should ask you to install Motorola iDEN P2k1 device
8) Proceed like normal

To Assign Them as ring tones I used CoolEdit to convert them to the specs. in the manual then you just use Webjal or ***** to load them as ringtones. If it does not show the wave files just type the whole file name in anyway and be sure to type in the extension ie: .wav and it will load.

Your Welcome

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Motorola\WebJal

Is there any way to work with web jal with out having an internet connection?
I got it to work w/ my i870 on my laptop but just wanted to know if and how you could use it off line.
any help would be great
Thanks
Ryan

Webjal has to have an internet connection for some strange reason. A couple of years ago you didn't have to. I use ***** and it does not require an internet connection and it only cost about 10 bucks. And it works without all the patches and stuff.

Posted by: bubbaq

it blanked out the program name. I don't know if i'm supposed to post that or not. M Y J A L
