Will this be compatible with Cingular's PTT?

Posted by: eimajuno

Its definately going to be a hot phone. I wonder what the price range is going to be.

Posted by: Rock3nrenigade

That thing is sex in a phone.

Posted by: rigg419

I wanted this phone for a while, 'till I heard about the razr II that is, which has just pushed this outta my head in a perfect example of the ozborne effect

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

Sounds like someone tried that test and had a negative result. Am I right IHAP?

Posted by: mobilezen

Odd thing it won't support edge.

Motorola does a LOT of odd things (as if people didn't know that already)

It has edge support. I played with one today from my motorola rep who had one to show off, they are on sale in europe by the end of this week! The price unlocked factory OEM direct from Motorola is $1,699.99 USD. The V6 Pebble is out Asia & europe markets as of today! but who wants to spend $1,299.99 on a handset?

Posted by: SE Aholic

Its a Thin profile candy bar phone like the razr as you can see that will launch or is suppose to launch with the Itunes interface in it also. Same limits (capacity) of songs as the rokr. My understanding is at launch it may be a internet only phone not shipped to stores. That seems crazy but doesnt shock me knowing other phones have been web exclusives in the past also. I am hearing this will not be ready for the holidays this year atleast lol More like End of Jan 06 from what I have heard but maybe IHAP can set us straight in the anticipation of launch time frame area.

Posted by: VTECaddict

boo...just like the current razr with its ho-hum feature list. it should have at least a 1.3mp cam and EDGE since its a "high end" phone....

Posted by: bigmike20

They should have released this phone instead of that ugly repackaged e398 and call it the Rokr.
It could have sold more.

Posted by: CyberMoto

I like the looks of this phone. Thinking of buying one. BUT not if the put stinken Itunes in.

Yup Moto's top end phones coming out have no Edge. Real smart of Motorola. Like that will take market share fronm Nokia.

How many phones will they sell at Those Prices!!!!!

Posted by: ~W~

I'm thinking of buying one ONLY IF THEY HAVE THE STINKEN iTunes in it =)

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

isn't it supposed to have itunes?

has to do with the chipset, the GSM RAZR uses a Moto in-house chipset with a ATI display chip. The CDMA RAZR will use the same Qualcomm MSM65xx series chipset as the E815(the Qualcomm chipset natively supports 1.3mp CCDs, and it also handles the phone's display, there is a reason why the E815 screen looks a bit different). Looks like a sexier E398, imo. C'mon Moto - Nokia, Ericsson, TI, and Skyware have chispets that support EDGE and other things!

Posted by: tbfl

I called Cingular Cust Serv today and was told this phone should be available at the PTT launch expected to be the 15th.....for what that's worth....

Posted by: originalgoast

Hey everyone. I recently got a SLVR and had itunes put on it. There are pictures of it in this thread on page 5. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=762060

Here is a review on it.

A little review on the Motorola V8/L7 SLVR.
Nov. 3 2005

I’m just going to list things that I have noticed. Some in detail.

• The phone is very light
• It is very thin
• Not to small where you wont notice it.
• The keypad I notice sorta changes its color. It can be copper in color sometimes but sometimes it looks darker.
• The backlight for the keypad is now a dark blue. I like it a lot better. Looks sharper
• The phone doesn’t have the messages button above the end key nor the Internet shortcut key. But there is a shortcut key for the Internet on the side of the phone.
• The keys on the keypad are small but are surprisingly easy to hit. They actually have the numbers coming up off the keypad at different heights for each number.
• The screen on the phone is very vibrant.
• The screen could be bigger but I guess it is ok where it is at right now. There is wasted space around the screen by a black strip.
• The TF card is very easy to access. Unlike the e398 where you had to turn the phone off, take the back cover off, and then take the battery off, then you could get the TF card. Where now it is located right on the side of the phone. Just lift the flap covering it push the card and it pops out.

Now for features in the phone:

• The menu speed is amazing. It is very fast.
• Under phonebook
o When you add a contact you can add the persons name, #, address, birthday, assign a picture and ringtone.
o You can print out contacts
o You can share a phonebook entry
o Under the phonebook setup you can change the search method to Find or jump to. I personally like jump to.
o That is basicly all the new phonebook stuff

• Messages
o You can now create voice messages.
o You now have an option to save your texts to your sim in options
o That’s about it for messages

• Recent calls, web access, and Tools are the same as the v3

• Games and apps
o You can save games to the tf card and use them by switching between the phone memory and tf card
o Comes w/ bejeweled and skipping stones

• Multimedia
o Comes w/ all the same things as the v3 except for themes. It is gone.
o I think that the camera quality is a little bit better. More clear.
o Has a video camera and video playback
o That’s it for multi.

• Settings
o Personalize is the same
o Ring Styles is the same
o Connection has BT,Sync, and USB Settings
o Call Forward is the same
o In – Call Setup is the same
o Initial Setup is about the same
o Phone Status
• Everything is the same
• But now it has Software update as a new option. I have tried it but it just tells me there is no new software out yet.
o Headset, car settings, network, and security are all the same.
o It now has the option of Airplane mode. This turns off the signal. Good for if you travel a lot and need to use your phone

• Now for the most wanted review. ITUNES!!!
o What can I say about itunes other then it is amazing.
o I have a 256mb TF Card and it holds about 100 songs.
o You just plug the USB cable into the side of the phone and it opens itunes and you select what songs you want to put on the phone.
o You can create playlists in itunes to put onto the phone.

• In the actual program on the phone:
o When you open the program you have the options of Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs, Shuffle Songs
o After you select what route you want to go the song appears.
o When the song appears
• It shows the album art if you added it.
• The song title and all that stuff
• You can control the volume with the side volume keys or up/ down arrows on the keypad
• You can rate the song by giving it stars.
• You can hide itunes so you can use the phone while the song is still playing and it will show the status on the background.
• It is basically like the ipod

• Other
o The RF on the phone is great. I am using Cingular and in areas I use to not get reception it is now getting about 2 bars.
o The battery life on the phone is good. I haven’t fully tested it but so far it has been good

• I believe that is it. If I missed anything you would like to know let me know.

Thanks to all that helped me out w/ the phone.

Originalgoast

Posted by: bb0ys

How do you listen to the songs in iTunes? Is there a nice speaker to hear them from? Can you plug in some sort of headphones?

Posted by: originalgoast

you could get the bluetooth headphones or you can listen to them from the speaker on the back of the phone. Both have very good quality.

Posted by: rigg419

the mini usb plug on these phones is also the headset jack, there is no 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack, u have to use proprietary moto stuff

Posted by: originalgoast

they also have an adaptor for the mini usb port to make it a 3.5mm jack. ive seen it on ebay.

Posted by: bb0ys

the usb/3.5mm jack for headphones is great news.

Posted by: originalgoast

--edited--ebay linking is against forum rules

Posted by: CyberMoto

How much did you pay for you new toy?

Posted by: originalgoast

i payed 700 usd from mobilebee.com before they jacked their prices up.

Slvr.............

does this screen get scratched ? since it wide open like this?

I keep hearing about people doing this and cannot think it is the best for the screen. Why don't you buy a Exim or Martin Fields screen protector?

Such a true statement. The general public doesn't care about EDGE. They care about looks and call quality.

That's what we all want. Plus better battery life.

This is a very cool piece of kit, but, $1300 from the carrier, $1700 unlocked? Wow. I just paid $2000 for a HDTV, I don't think that a cell phone should be in that category.

And, unless they have fixed the iTunes problems that they had with the ROKR (USB 1.1 slows iTunes down to a crawl) I wouldn't even consider it.

Posted by: bigmike20

I am just wondering about the new V3i, is it also usb 1.1 or 2.0

Posted by: tendura

I'll bet anything that it IS NOT USB 2.0. Would be very very nice though!

What size is your HDTV? I paided $650 for my 26'' Widescreen Samsung

Posted by: jewberg

Don't know if anybody really cares or if it helps, but Vodafone UK will release this on November 18th.

Isn't that when Cingular is suppose to release it?

Is it possible for the SLVR to release the same day in two different countries and on two different continents?

Posted by: CyberMoto

We shall soon see.

Posted by: Zchamp

Will the Pebble ever be released for Cing? That phone is sex. So simple, I love it. If not Im upgrading to the Z520a. Question though, I wont have to hand in my 710a will I?

I would assume so. More than likely it would come out on Cingular 100 days after T-Mobile has started selling it. Same thing with the razr.

Don't know if you noticed it, but I certainly did. If you dont know what im talking about, I'm talking about the 1.3 mp camera. Why would Moto make the euro one 1.3 an ours vga.

Maybe motorola will release the same version of the SLVR you never know. I cant wait for the SLVR to come out im am willing to pay about 350 for it w/out activation

Posted by: cars4978

I've spoken to people at several of the stores in the Western Suburbs, and they've all said that the SLVR is going to have the PTT on it.

Take it for what its worth!

Slvr's PTT won't work with Cingular. The V38x will be the 'rugged' Motorola PTT offering.

Posted by: Rock3nrenigade

Seems like it has been released over in the UK on Vodafone

http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/index.cf...variationID=302

Free on all plans! what the!

Posted by: jewberg

Was posted...look above

Posted by: CoRupT

I hope they do release a MP camera on the SLVR just as the one on vodafone

Posted by: tco

Looking @ the Vodafone site the Euro SLVR is Tri-Band. I looked at the FCC site. The Moto filing has this a quad band. It looks like the euro and us versions differ.

Posted by: CoRupT

Im sure that the Euro SLVR has quadband as well just locked like the E398

I really doubt it will be released Q2, If they do there making a big mistake. The SLVR doesnt have much features its practically a Razr v3 with a memory slot, They should release the SLVR before christmas and then release the Razr v3i because the v3i would beat the SLVR out for the features. The SLVR has a VGA camera as so the razr v3i has a MP

This is a sticky for the SLVR....not for Push to Talk, not for RAZR, not for anything besides SLVR.

Don't know where you got your information. I doublechecked all my resources and they all say no EDGE. There was an article some time ago about Motorola not including EDGE in both the SLVR and the PEBL.

Posted by: Rassilon

I can see where it may be "suggested" as having Edge here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3504_7...-1.html?tag=txt lists the PEBL and SLVR as having Edge. Phonescoop though, does not list them as having Edge.

any idea on a price of this phone yet?

Posted by: Rassilon

Last I've seen, Friday, it was going for just over $1000.00 from Motorola unlocked. The price will drop to about $199-$299 when the phone actually get released to Cingular and T-Mobile.

Where do you see these prices and phones? I have yet to see one on eBay.

Posted by: CoRupT

there has been many on Ebay before but not lately. They usually sell for about $1200.00 on ebay a while ago, I dont see the SLVR for sale at hellomoto.com

Posted by: Rassilon

Its not released officially yet. Thats the price for the prototype models. The website is posted several time on HoFo but I don't recall the URL off hand. The website sells prototype phones for $1000-$5000 depending on the phone. I've only used it to see close up pics of the phones and the keys/buttons.

You don't want to check ebay for phones at least a few months after a phone has been released. Give it time for the price to drop and more legit places will have them for sale. Call Motorola's National Repair Center, (817) 245-6000, and ask them about Ebay and the amount of phones sent in to them for repairs that were bought off Ebay.

According the to specs the L6 is 1mm thinner than the L7, I'm sure you'll refute this though since you've probably held them both and can't tell the difference between 1cm and 1.1cm. And yes, 1mm is a major difference.

nice to see there are still wise mouths around here.

refute? no. Say there's a noticeable difference? Not a chance. But you knew that already from reading the specs

Posted by: dental stud-ent

one millimeter is HUGE! I have to adjust things by tenths of millimeters daily, so, at least to me, a millimeter is a large difference. That's what I knew from reading the specs.

Pot calling the kettle black? Yep.

No, there isn't a noticeable difference but there is a technical difference in size. One is junk compaired to the other pertaining to each ones features.

there's just a tad of a difference between teeth and the size of a mobile phone. Or maybe I missed something in premed?

for the record. 9 out of 10 blindfolded dentists surveyed couldn't tell the difference between the two mobiles

But there is a vast difference between the L6 and L7. Just look a the specs to find out. L6 is a baby starter type phone.

Euro sites have it for sale.

Something tells me that Cingular has cancelled the release of the SLVR.

My reason for this,

On the motorola business site, my.motorola.com. you use to be able to order the motorola slvr display phones but now it has been removed.

But,

now you can order V3i and L6 display phones. So we know they are on their way soon, probably jan-feb.

You could always pick up an L6 from ebay for around $200 right now. I just got mine in today and think it's so much nicer than my RAZR.

Posted by: Rassilon

True, the L6 is nice. I'm waiting on the L7 though.

I'm actually thinking of re-ebaying (rebay?) my L6. While the design is VERY nice, the interface a lot faster than the razr, and it has a much nicer keypad, my signal is a lot worse than the razr was.

It's only a triband phone (900/1800/1900).. Cingular around here says they mainly only use 1900 for this whole area, but my signal is terrible compared to my razr.

I may just deal with it until (if) the SLVR comes out

You can enable the 850 band on the l6, you know...

Yeah, mine should be here soon too. Not a bad phone for $200 or so, plus I wouldn't worry with it as I would with the slvr...

I have been using the L7 for over a month now, I have been really impressed with 99% of it, the speaker volume is about like other Motorola phones, needs a boost. But other than that, I think the phone will hold its own in the market, and yall will really like it.

you can always adjust the gain table to increase the speakerphone volume, thats what i did on mine and my other moto phones.

Whats the diff between L6, L7, and SLVR?

Posted by: CoRupT

L7 is suppost to be the SLVR but i guess now motorola dropped all numbers for the Pebl and the SLVR but the L6 is a different phone. The L6 doesnt have that much features as the SLVR and its suppost to be thinner

Posted by: Wolfeman09

I dont know if anyone has check it ebay in a while, but the l6 and slvr are all over the place. It is even a cheap as $185 from someone.

Hopefully this phone is coming soon to the US. It is all over Europe now.

The main difference is that the l6 does not have a memory card while the slvr does.

L6 also has a much crapper screen, lower res and STN vs TFT

but that being said I may pick one up to be my backup phone, its cheap and quadband, I'll use it when my V80 can't pick up anything

The L7 SLVR will be released in January for Cingular. Same with the Nokia 6030 and 3 UMTS devices. =)

Posted by: jewberg

Ad for SLVR L7 in the January 06' issue of WIRED, but does not say for Cingular or any other carrier. A strict Motorola ad without coming to ... in it.

Where did you get this info from?

Posted by: I have a phone

it was alluded to in earlier posts

Posted by: verizonv3cuser

guys i had the phone and its not all that. its no razr thats for sure. the RF is nothing like the razr and the keypad felt like plastic. the phone is way too long and looks like a tv remote. it will not be a high end phone, and imo the razr is way better.

I dont really care for the feel of the keypad i think its a great looking phone and i will be picking up the phone when the price is about 400 or so...

can you take a pic and post it?

IHAP,

What are you experiencing with the RF on this phone? Does it seem to be even better than the razr?

A little off topic, but how about the RF on the V3i? Is that one any different than the razr?

This phone is pathetic on features, but it does look awesome!

Huh?

This quad-band GSM phone packs the features of the popular RAZR V3 into an ultra-thin bar design, with a microSD (TransFlash) memory card slot, MP3 player, video capture, and Push-To-Talk. Features in common with RAZR include Bluetooth, VGA camera, and a large TFT display.

Doesn't seem like pathetic features to me. I know some will whine about the VGA camera but I don't use my phone as my camera source so that doesn't matter to me.

No EDGE in 2006? That about sums it up.

Posted by: gbcue

I thought the L7s had EDGE, but now I've been reading that Moto removed the EDGE chips....

Posted by: djnick

i think they will include the chipset, it just wont be activated until they can work out bugs. besides who cares about edge, verizons evdo, and sprint powervision are way faster. i know cing has its 3g but its no way as good, at least from what ive read here

there are no bugs to work out. It's not built into any of their recent mobiles

wow iTunes in a phone doesn't seem right to me, the ROKR stunk because of the iTunes feature, so I'm not trusting this one either. This thing will be EXPENSIVE! I'll stick with the regular RAZR, which is only 69 dollars now in my town.

I read a while back that Motorola screwed up their EDGE implementation somehow, and so none of the phones being released recently (RAZR, SLVR, etc.) will do EDGE even though they were originally touted as EDGE devices. I figure someone's head is on a stick somewhere.

According to phonescoop.com, this is now fixed and EDGE will return to these phones, sometime in May.

unfortunately it's too little too late for them

Posted by: grifflax

I'm using an unlocked quadband L7 with a Cingular SIM and it is about the same RF you get with the Razr.....which is not that great. Nokia phones are always better.

Posted by: I have a phone

of course your results will vary but the V3 is only rated a smidge lower than the RF champ, the 3595/6010. It's too early to make any performance claims on the L7, there's too few of them being used in cingular's network

Posted by: ajm086

does anyone know when the slvr is going to be released?? i hope it is soon because i thought cingular was going to relase it in early december.

This is FULLY UNBRANDED SLVR from Vodafone Germany. I believe that the Cingular Branded one will be in BLACK. Can't wait til we get that in the stores because a lot of people are already asking about that phone since last November! Some customers are just so annoying because they stand there and tell you the features about the phone and I'm like... doode! I waiting for it too! and then another customer comes in and starts talking about it. The wait for me is OVER!!!....hahahahhaha

Posted by: phattbam

have you shown them your phone? I'm sure they'll all think it's the L6 instead of an imported L7.

Anyone know of a good screen protector for the SLVR? Martin Fields is sold out.
Do the Exims on eBay come pre-cut for the SLVR? Anyone here use one?
I see on Martin Fields that they have L6 protectors in stock. Are they the same size?
Thanks,
Brian

Nevermind. They were in stock at doml.com. I just thought it was the same inventory as martinfields.com since they look the same. Guess not.

Anyone ever use one of their battery extenders? I highly doubt they actually work but I bought one after reading a couple reviews where they did extend battery life 10-20%. Absurd. I guess I'll find out for myself.

Ok, now, who's got the hot deals on Transflash (microSD) memory cards?

so you found some screen protectors?

GOSH! i want a slvr or a V3i...... but when will they come out? for cingular

Yeah, found the Martin Fields ones. And then just got a notice this morning that martinfields.com has them back in stock. I hope doml.com doesn't ship slower than martinfields.com. My friend has a Martin Fields protector on his S710a and you can't tell there's anything on it.

Not to be annoying, this thread is 12 pages long though. When can we expect to get this in stores. I own a few cingular locations in the Michigan area, and havent heard anything about it.

The reason I finally sucked up and ordered one off eBay was I went into the Cingular store (here in Westwood, Los Angeles) and asked the guy and he goes "definitely the end of the month." So I was like, "of January?" (this was end of December) And the guy goes, "Yeah, right Bob?" and Bob or whoever goes, "Uh, yeah, the sheet just says Q1, so like, January, Feb, March..." And I was like, "Latron. I'll be on eBay."

The import store down the street from me wanted $650 without contract or $450 with a 2-year Cingular contract (my contract ran out a few months ago). I ended up ordering one for $375 shipped. No contract so if something sweet comes along I can jump ship or get the renewal deal.

I don't know what Cingular is doing.

Posted by: SonyStyle

twiddling their thumbs..... most americans dont sit on the edge of their chairs about the latest phones, so they take their sweet time, drop the price of the razr, advertise it a little more for new years,

and be content, knowing people that dont care about fones will keep buying them and signing up.

Well, this is in the Cinugular forum, so I presume the carrier in question would be...Cingular?

Posted by: wilf_brim

Quick question to those that have managed to aquire one, through whatever means.

How to you carry them? They look too long to put in a front pocket (unless you never sit down) and the screen looks like it has a big "scratch me!" sign on it. If I carried a manbag I guess I could put it in that.

Posted by: Flying h4x0r

i just put it in my front pocket... its not any longer than my old E815

and i've been thinking of getting a screen protector...

Posted by: nin1974

so the "WORD" now is Cingular is supposed to get it on 1/22? anyone know how much without contratc?

Posted by: phattbam

back pocket of my jeans is where I leave mine. as for the release my friend(real friend) works at a Cingular corp store and they havent heard anything about it. is the 1/22 release online first?

cingular of course.

lol, you guys crack me up...with all the off topic posts it amazes me that you even consider that to be assumed here Never assume, particularly in these forums.

Posted by: wilf_brim

They appear to be going for about 350 or so on Ebay (unlocked, quad band). Cingular's price should be significantly less than that with contract (199 or so), elsewise I'm taking my chances with the unlocked versions.

I'll end up getting one w/out a contract, so I'll probably wait to check out Cingular's price (w/out contract) before buying 3rd party. Would be nice to have an unlocked, unbranded one though....

myphoneworld is pretty known on here, there prices do vary though on some phones like hte l7 its pretty good price, but there v3i is still expensive. i would order from them though, shipping kinda kills the deal its around $30 for any phone just for ground

It doesn't look like this one has iTunes software. Cingular/US version has iTunes (confirmed in last week's CES in Las Vegas).

The howardforums.com.com version does not have EDGE support, while every other unit I've seen recently does. As I understand some of the first batches of the phone were without EDGE so you are most likely receiving an older version.

Nope--$329.....if you type "hofo" into the group code box at the top of the page (right above the tabs), the price will show as $329; at least it did for me, and I've gotten email confirmation at that price
