Hi, I am going to make an online Flash application that will result in the creation of a flash file with video and audio. I am trying to see what solutions are out there technically to enable the user to send the resulting file to his own mobile to use as a videotone or to somebody else's mobile.
And by the way, how do you create videotones basically?
Hope somebody can answer
sorry if this post is off-topic

The way Jamster make video ringtones is that they produce a custom Symbian application that creates a new profile on the phone. When the video ringtone profile is selected, any incoming calls are intercepted by the app and it plays the appropriate video.

I'm not sure if there's any other way to do it, at least not on any cell phone I've seen in the UK.

Thanks for you answer Aaron
So that's how Jamster manages to go round the phones os and insert their video ringtones. Isn't bypassing the os with their own app not also a way of avoiding having to convert their content in many various formats?
But about the video ringtone itself, is it 3gp? or another format? See, since my application is going to create linear Flash files, I'm trying to understand what I can do to deliver them on mobiles. Do I need to convert in .avi and then into 3gp (and maybe other mobile video formats) or something like that?

I'm not too familiar with it, but I assume that the file is in the 3gp format and is played using the decoder that comes bundled with the phone. Most phones should be able to play 3gp video these days, but don't have the open APIs available like Symbian phones do in order to create the custom app that wraps around the actual video.

Maybe there's some more information on Jamster's website?
