Just when you think think things will be easy , sh*t happnes.
I just got my 9500 today and booted it up and marveled at it like an infant and a new flashing toy. As soon as i check the firmware dissapointment sets in. It's freaking 4.51, I tought that buying a new 9500 from nokia would ensure i wwould get version 5.22 so i can use my blackberry service on it. I called nokia and got tranferred to tech support and they refuse to flash it at all because "there is no known defects in your software version" and "that firmware version is not comapatable with the USA" . What kind of malarky is that?!?!?! Does anyone know where i can get my 9500 flashed to european version 5.22 ?

I just upgraded the firmware on my Nokia 9500 to version 5.22 at www.iunlock.com
The blacberry is working perfectly with T-Mobile.
iunlock.com are very professional and have quick service.
Good Luck

As I said in another post, is the LEAST customer-centric company on the planet. It is as if they HATE their customers. Beyond explanation really.
I have also heard good things about iunlock.com, probably about $30 to flash with latest software.

Just as another data point,
I, too, bought a 9500 from Nokia and it shipped with the older firmware. Since I was specifically interested in trying the BBC client, I called them to see if they would flash it to the 5.22 firmware.
At first, the rep I got said that Nokia won't take a phone in "just to flash it". I was feeling my frustration rising when she said "unless there's something else wrong with it?"
Seeing my cue, I jumped in and said, "Well, it won't run the communications software I have because it requires the 5.22 firmware."
"Oh," she said, "so it doesn't work. Fine. Then we can flash it."
The phone arrived today, flashed to 5.22. I sent it out last Monday.
You might try this first to see what they say.. I am amazed that they give customers the runaround like this, but whatever. At least they did it.
YMMV, but good luck!

Follow-up to my rather rosy post from yesterday..
After checking the phone, Nokia did the unthinkable: Returned it without doing a damn thing to it. It came back with the exact same firmware it left here with.
The repair slip indicates "No Trouble Found." Nevermind that I had specifically included instructions as to what I wanted done and why, and that the ticket was filed with explicit instructions to flash the firmware to 5.22.
So -- no, Nokia did NOT help me.
However: I just paid a visit to iunlock.com (their main store happens to be very close to my office) and they flashed both phones to 5.22 while I waited. Fast, easy, professional -- I recommend them to anyone who needs their services.
And Nokia needs to learn a lot about customer service.
