does anyone have a treo 650 and use it with their mac? i'm on the verge of buying a treo and i want to know if there are any compatibility issues. do you use isync or the palm software to sync your treo?

also i was wondering, would i be able to sync my mail with mail.app like you can with outlook in windows?

thanks.

i'm using an unbranded/unlocked gsm 650 with my G4 iBook and so far, it's been seamless. i've heard complaints about sycing via bluetooth being tricky, but i haven't ran into any problems at all - just enabled it on my iBook in the bluetooth preferences (creates a virtual serial port) and so far so good. i've been syncing using iSync (i recently stopped using entourage and moved over to all native apple applications, ie, iCal, Address Book, and mail app) ...

unfortunately, no, you cannot sync mail from Mail App to your treo as you can in outlook/windows.

I use the Sprint Treo 650 with my Powerbook. Use Palm desktop to sync using Entourage conduit settings. It's flawless.

I have a power book and a treo650 GSM. Moreover, i am using Missing sync to pair them, no probs so far!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

meant to add: while you can't sync the mail app with the Treo (like with windows/outlook), one solution is to use IMAP protocol with versamail (or 3rd party app; I use chattermail) and IMAP protocol wiht your server in Mail App. you can then sync your folders seamlessly. I have my inbox, sent folder, and drafts folder all synced on my Treo via Chattermail.

which app's from your power book are you syncing?

address book?
are the home addresses (mac) going to home address on the treo 650?
any other missed fields?

iCal?

any others?

"The Missing Sync" is definitely the answer! iTunes & iPhoto sync, profile management, internet sharing over bluetooth (fast internet browsing when in the vicinity of your Mac) and the ability to mount your SD card on the desktop.

It's been said before, but this app should be licenced by PalmOne (or whatever they're called today) and given away free. The Mac Palm Desktop belongs in a software museum.

everyone sez the "miossing sync" is a great program, but omits the particulars....

I'm really sure that iphoto & itunes are important to some, but I'm really interested in how the address/email address/names/phone numbers sync tween Mail (10.4.3 OS) and the treo w/missing sync?

I have read that the palm desktop doesn't sync these very well, if at all?

can anyone shine some particulars on this subject?

Hence the link to the manufacturers website - they go into the software features in some detail...

In a nutshell, Palm Desktop syncs a limited subset of the Treo address book fields - Missing Sync does the lot.

having visited the link before I asked the question, I came back here to get details as to what the "missing sync" does & doesn't do?

so in describing the "missing sync" syncing "the lot" you mean say within mac's address book, home address sync'd w/home address on the treo 650?
mac spouse sync's with treo spouse field?

are there any fields that don't sync?

the link doesn't go though the fields one by one, and the language is vague, as was the language with the palm desktop.

The Treo doesn't have a spouse field in Contacts, and that field doesn't sync (the sync doesn't automatically generate a custom field for spouse on the Treo). Birthday events in iCal don't show up in the Treo contact's birthday field, but they do show up in the Treo calendar app (with alarm). Interestingly, a Treo contact's birthday field will generate a new custom field called "birthday" in Address Book, but no iCal event will be generated.
