For those of you waiting for the Nokia 6682

Wal-Mart got their shipment of them in YESTERDAY!

All I can remember is their 2-year price. It was $197 and change.

Posted by: Michael95GT

Cool, now I got to get down there and play with one.

I haven't even got to see one in person yet; not even a dummy. One of the few downers of living in a small town.

I can't find any updates, is there a rerelease date yet? I'm about to port my number from verizon to cingular, but I'm waiting for this phone, as I want a Symbian S60 phone. I don't want to waste the "New Contract Price" on a phone that isn't really what I want only to pay full retail a month later for the phone I do.

Posted by: quillhill

Oooh. Crap. There's a Wal-Mart two miles from my house. I wonder if they'll be selling the 6682. I'm eligible for an upgrade in ... nine days. And I was all set to sit and wait for the HTC 2125 since I can't find this thing anywhere. Sweet. Hope they have it the Covington Wal-Mart. I hope, I hope, I hope.

well, now, thats mighty interesting news.

Thanks, I hope that's true.

I'll have to check that out. I'm going to cingular as soon as it's back out.

Here's a tip. You can actually but the 6682 on other marketplaces such as on here or ebay for the same price or cheaper than the price you would be paying with cingular's subsidy and 2 year price.

So, you can get a cheaper phone, sell it, and use the money towards a 6682 and I'm sure the net amount spent on the 6682 would be less than the price you would be paying for it on cingular's contract subsidy.

I haven't found one on here lately.

Hmmmmm Do they have the same firmware problem?

I've described the "problem" before. Honestly, I think Cingular made a mistake for pulling the phone b/c of this "problem". There's absolutely no reason NOT to buy this phone, if you want one. It doesn't effect 99.9% of us anyway.

Cingular has temporarily discontinued shipments of the Nokia 6682 (software v3.01.1) due to a compatibility issue with the Gemplus or Oberthur UICC (UMTS compatible SIM card, 3G SIM). When combining either of these SIMs with the Nokia 6682 the voicemail number must be manually entered and stored in the handset via “Tools” then “Voicemail” in order to use “one number” dialing to access the voicemail system. While Cingular has not officially released the 3G SIM, a “stop-ship” has been enacted on the Nokia 6682 until a software revision is available to support the 3G UICC. No additional shipments of this model will be accepted from Nokia, nor distributed from our warehouses until this issue is resolved.

So, if I buy one here in the next week or so and pop in my regular 64k SIM, it'll be fine. If I decide at some point in the future to get a UMTS device -- when they are available -- then I can just get a new SIM for my new phone and sell the Nokia. No problem, right?

It's the Nokia or the upcoming HTC 2125 -- probably whichever one I can get my hands on first.

Will the 6682 be available if you are still on the blue side?

I posted, just a few days ago, about a brand new SIM replacement that's going to start on 11-15. That new "SIM" (it's not called a SIM anymore) will eliminate the problem all together.

In a nutshell, you can buy the Nokia right now, or wait a few days and get the 2125. Personally, I'd wait 3-4 weeks and see how people like the 2125. Then compare the reviews and make your decision. I don't know where you live, but for me, UMTS/HSPDA is still a few years away.

Regardless of your decision between those two phones, I think you'll have a winner on your hands.

I'm not 100% sure. Doesn't really matter with Nokias. They are SUPER EASY to unlock. Just search for DCT Calculator.

Posted by: Rcadden

Not the newer s60 ones. I think the 6630 was only recently able to be unlocked, and that phone has been out for nearly a year.

I hope the 6682 is not going to be available at Wal-mart, that's real crappy. I hate having a phone that everyone else has. Dangit, I love this phone so much.

Most people will bypass the 6682 because it doesn't flip and is too expensive.

For some reason, I can't picture a Wal-Mart regular with an s60 smartphone.

I must've missed that post about the UMTS thang-that's-not-a-SIM. I'll find it, though.
I live in the Seattle area, so I'm in one of the original UMTS launch markets, supposedly.
My issue is where to buy the Nokia. They don't have it at my local Wal-Mart, but I'm sure they will within a week. I can't find it anywhere else within 30 miles of my house. I really hate buying phones online - I hate the waiting, the problems returning it would cause, potential lack of support - there's just no reason to do it.
I agree with your suggestion to wait a few weeks and see how the reviews on the HTC come out. I may just set this extra $350 aside that just came my way and wait.

We'll see if my local Wally World gets the Nokia. I'll take it from there. I can always take it back if I hate it. Heh.

The 6630 still can't be unlocked. The newer S60 Nokias aka BB5 generation, including the 6630, 668x, N series etc.., cannot be unlocked yet unless with a code from the provider.

Yeah, but make sure Wal-Mart honors Cingular's 30-day return policy. WM is supposed to, but many of the "connection centers" think that it's only a 15-day return...like their normal policy.

Lol. I'm a regular with an S60 smartphone. I actually currently have two, if you count the Ngage that I couldn't get rid of. (I just put ControlFreak on it and it's my stay-at-home remote now. Haha.)

Well, I went to Wally-World this evening and got to see and play with the 6682. I like it, I want it, I tried to buy it! $378.86 "No Contract" $406.38 out the door!! The rep went to get me a "Fresh" untouched one, went he got it out of the cabinet it had a note taped to it, saying "Do not sell, till all 6230's are gone" Guess what, they've got 2 6230's left!!!! I'm gonna call back tomorrow and see if I can get it from another rep. The guy there today was new and was afraid he'd get in trouble.

Well, glad to see that someone could verify my post. It's funny that they wouldn't sell you one. Usually they're "programmed" to sell anything at all cost.

Posted by: 91silvy

Hey Michael,
I work at Wal-Mart on the weekends (I make good money believe it or not) and if you would have just asked to speak to a manager you would have gotten the phone. They can't refuse to sell you something just because they want to get rid of the old stock, the managers would freak. The Home Office decides what can and cannot be sold, not the individual stores.

Good suggestion. I will most definitely make sure I have a good grasp on the return policy. It may not be till later in the week they get the phone. I know when Wal-Mart's elsewhere in the country got the RAZR, my local store was about a week behind.

But, I figure I can decide if I like it or not in about seven days. The bigger question is do I wait till Nov. 14 and use my upgrade? I'm inclined not to. I'd like to enjoy the feeling of not being in contract.

I suppose I could sell my RAZR to offset the cost. Hmm.

Pardon my while I think aloud...

Posted by: Michael95GT

I got it!!! $401.10 out the door.

It rang up as $374.86, instead of $378.86.

It's on the charger now. I made a couple calls on the way home. I like it.

The girl working this morning, didn't know anything about not being allowed to sell them. She just got it out and rang it up. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.

Damn, I'm loving this thing!!!

Posted by: quillhill

Pardon me while I turn green with envy. It's all I can do to not rush out and drive to every Wal-Mart within 15 miles of my office until I find it.

Posted by: naviwilliams

In Atlanta, Stone Crest mall (near where I live) there is a stall (or a booth as they say here in the US) in there, and the guy has the Nokia 6682. I could not believe it!?!

Have Cingular secretly re-released the mobile?

Posted by: Michael95GT

It still has the same F/W version.

[#1] Yes, I have the Call Log bug; but it's not a big deal to me. I very rarely turn off my phone.

[#2] I really don't think the (Copy Contacts?) thing is a bug; because it asks "Copy NEW SIM contacts to phone?" I know it's annoying, but I think the phone thinks you have probably been using another phone since it's been switched off, and you possibly added some numbers. It just wants to make sure it's up-to-date.

Posted by: quillhill

No go at Wal-Mart no. 2 or no. 3. I'm starting to think this is a sign. Sigh. The only place in town that has a 6682 is an agent store that I detest. Great. I bought my RAZR from them five months ago and vowed never to buy from them. Perhaps I'm just not meant to have it. Sigh.

#2 is definitely a bug. My Unbranded 6682 doesn't do it. Also, seems rather stupid of them to ask you EVERY time you turn your phone on if you want to update the contacts. That's the point of synching.

Mine doesn't do it and it IS Cingular branded. But it may be due to the fact that I'm using a 32k sim, which seems strange to me but whatever. I don't have the call log issue either.

I don't have either of those problems. I use my old (2yrs) 32k sim card. Mine is Cingular branded. Had it about 3+ weeks.

Posted by: buknoy

i used to have this problem but somehow it disappeared. my phone is cingular branded and i'm using a 64k sim. i don't know what i did, but the problem seems to have fixed itself. i want to start a forum about this, but since i can't figure out how i did it, starting a new thread would be pointless.

Posted by: mashi

from what i heard. 3G SIM (USIM) won't work with 2G phone. I wonder why Cingular care about USIM on 2G phone ?

Posted by: TheFooz

Actually, from what I've heard, the 3G sim will work on a 2G phone, it just won't take advantage of the 3G functionality.
