MM8300 Ringtone Compatibility

I recently purchased an 8300 and data cable. I was wondering what kind of rintones I can transfer to my phone. Ideally, I'd like to take an mp3, and have that play on the phone. Is there anything I can do to get ringtones that sound like mp3's or "real tones" on this phone?

The 8300 does not support MP3's - you gotta convert everything to MP4/AAC and then upload. There are several free uploaders out there on the net, or you can use your cable. Every MP4/AAC file uploaded will show up in the downloads section under "Ringers". You just gotta watch the size of the files - AAC's are larger than mp3's and the 8300 only has 2MB of memory.

Yeah, MP4/AAC would be the way to go with the ringers. A helpful hint would be to use a program when converting the music file that lets you lower the bit rate and try and keep the ringer less than 25 sec. And make sure you rename the file to .M4A not .MP4.

I use Nero WaveEditor included with Nero Ultra Edition 7.

What would be a good program to convert MP3s to MP4?

Okay I figured out how to convert to mp4, and I used BitPim to transfer the tone over. However it doesn't show up under PC sync. the file is about 193kb. I can send my address book and everything else, but the ringers aren't working. it is named ".m4a" as well....

Can you tell us please how to convert the mp3 to the mp4 format? or is it m4a or aac? Thanks.

download dbPowerAmp to convert from mp3 format. Then go to www.sprintusers.com/focus to send them to you phone. works great.

Thjanks. I downloaded dBpowerAMP and it worked. It converted my mp3 file to an m4a file. I used focus to load it into my phone. Sounds much better than midi (though not as good as mp3).

I am waiting for the data cable I bought to arrive. I will use bitpim software. Will I be able to use that (version 0.8.00) to upload these m4a files to the phone with bitpim?

Thanks.
Eli

Look under RINGERS. Push OK key - then DOWNLOADS then RINGERS. Or you can look under where you assign a ringer to a caller - under downloads. Let me know if it shows up there for you. Good luck. Eli

Hey... it doesn't show up there for me..... I don't know why it's not syncing it...

woooah, i dl'd dbpoweramp and i dont see **** about m4a, aac or mp4's.

No, you can't use bitpim or anyother program to transfer m4a's to your phone. The MM-8300 won't let you transfer any music file other than a MIDI via PC Sync'ing, you have to use the browser to download them.

Trek - Go back to the dbpoweramp website and download the additional program for M4a converting.
