My union rep told me something interesting today

My union rep called today, and we got talking about a few things. When I brought up the crap about the insane quotas and lower commissions, he said something to me that caught me off guard.

He said the higher ups in the company think the sales reps make too much money. They said there is no reason a rep should be making $30k - $40k a year.

The sales reps are the ones in the company that actually WORK for a living, and without us they wouldn't be getting their bonuses. Geez that burns me up.

So to anyone who thinks the company actually cares about you, I suggest you wake up.

Let's me let you in on a little secret, don't believe everything your union rep tells you. They HAVE to sell the union to you, but in reality they care more about the union's bottom line then its members. What can the union do for you that you can't do for yourself?

Consider this, what do Verizon, Nextel and T-Mobile have in common? Its employees are not unionized and they get paid more than unionized Cingular employees.

Sad but true. Without members, there would be no union.

Why people voted it in in my area is beyond me, I guess people are really naive.

I understand to take what a union rep says with a grain of salt. But for some reason, I have to say I believe him.

Just look at what is going on in the company, there has to be some truth to it.

Exactly, you believe him because that's only reason you can think of that would explain cingulars actions.

I believe the higher ups do think that but I'm pretty sure that's not the kind of info they would pass along to a union head which is why I believe the union guy was talking BS.

We're still nonunion in my state and have unions reps that sit in our store on a weekly basis now for a few hours trying to misinform my coworkers or tell them about things the union offers which are really things Cingular already offers to them.

It got ugly today when I called her on one of the lies she was trying to tell one of coworkers. Then I politely reminded her I was on the clock and to stop bothering me and my other co-workers on the clock.

What was the lie?

I would kick those bastards out!

I would not trust what a union member says about internal cingular as far as I can throw them (and I'm pretty weak). as mentioned above, they'll say anything to get members. Now the union rep out here seems pretty nice and decent but I know there's a side to him that would do almost anything for the union. When we asked about the higher quotas and not having the quota's themselves based on the store traffic history like it's supposed to be, all he said is that is one issue they are bringing up to higher ups and trying to change. as far as quota's go, people will sell as many as they sell no matter what their quota is. the whole reps making too much is bull. The company wants to brag about reps making more than 50K a year because that means they're selling more and that if you work here too you could do the same.

Ask how much the union reps make or find out yourself by entering their name here:
http://erds.dol-esa.gov/query/getOfficerEmployeeQry.do

Would you be suprised to find out a lot of these guys make over $100K?!?!

Guess who is paying their salaries?????

That's crazy, I found out my Rep makes 2x as much as me.

Posted by: werl

Not to mention most of them get cars that they can use 24/7 and the union cops for gas, insurance, etc.... not a bad gig for not doing much.....

Hey thanks for the link.

My union rep makes $42K. I wonder how much of a bonus she gets for getting our state to join! Crazy.

and you can thank your peers for voting the Union in to place.

Notice how it's probably the most annoying, lazy person you work with who is probably the union steward?
