DT-1 Music Stand Modification

Bit of a strange one, but I want to modify a DT-1 music stand to work with my N70. Thought it would just be a case of hacking a bit of plastic off so the phone would physically reach the connector. However, when i dismantled it, and connected my phone, it was recognised as a headset. The speakers work for playing mp3s etc., but the radio does not recognise it, so I can't listen to the radio 
. Any ideas on how I could modify it so it appears to my phone as the MD-1 music stand, or any other accessory it thinks has an aerial?
(P.S. I don't want to just buy the MD-1, cos I think the idea of having the loose cable to manually plug in looks cheap!!)
