The GD87 is now available in the UK as a sim-free phone, ie: no network and never been sim locked. Price is £399 which equals $598. This is not an e-bay or dodgy seller price its high street/chain store.

It is now available on Orange in the UK aswell as vodafone, the orange one is considered a better buy as the in-fusio game downloads are active (not on voda). The price on Orange is £179/$268 with a one year contract/tie in , the cheapest contract is £15/$22.5 a month. Once the independant dealers have stock of the orange GD87 the price from them will be as low as £0/$0 on high user contracts and a very reasonable £59.99/$90 on a medium user £25/$37.50 a month contract.

Just thought some of you guys may be interested in the prices over here in the UK.

Sorry its just a pic I got from the net, don't have my GD87 yet, waiting for Orange to ship to independant dealers for the much cheaper price. (hopefully not too long now)

A friend of mine is coming over for a visit from the UK in Feb., where should I send him to pick up a GD87 for me?
Do all Orange dealers sell the unlocked version? I'd hate to get it here and find out I can't use it.....

All Orange phones are locked to their network. Your friend will have to buy a SIM free one from a place like New Beetle posted.

My friend doesn't know anything about cell phones, what's the easiest way for him to make sure the phone is unlocked? Get him to put the sim card from his phone in it, if it's not an Orange sim card?

Yes get him too put his SIM in the phone and test it. He needs to ask for a SIM free/handset only phone ie not on contract open to all networks etc.

Thanks, that should be easy enough for him to remember. I'll just burn it into his head that it has to be sim free and work with any network. As long as the dealer doesn't try to scam him it should be alright.
