vx9800 video res

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: influxed

I just got the vx9800 and a 1GB miniSD card. I've successfully transfered mp3's and video files to the 9800. But does anybody know what resolution and what bitrates the phone will support? I'm trying to find the best resolution and highest bitrate possible. If I go too high on the bitrate the phone doesn't playback the video but the sound still works. I'm using xilisoft incase anyone was wondering.

Posted by: influxed

Ok I found out what it supports. I was having trouble using the xilisoft software converting anything to a res higher than 176x144. So I tried the 3GP Converter software found at http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=3GP_Converter
I successfully used the 320x240 with high quality stereo. It was using a bitrate of 500-600KB/s with 15FPS. Family Guy looks awesome on the phone

The picture doesn't really do it justice.

Its not that I want to steal them, I already have the episodes, I just dont know how to make it to where I can put them on the mini sd, maybe you can teach me?

Posted by: influxed

Yeah sure I'll help ya. It's easy, first though, I want to make sure you already have a miniSD card and a card reader. Also do you already know how to transfer mp3's to the sd?

Posted by: mrdutt

yes, yes, and yes

Posted by: influxed

Ok the rest is really simple. Use a program called 3GP Converter.

Extract the files and run the setup. Select the 'General: 3GPP+AAC General Setting.' Then pick where you want to save the files after they're converterd with the Output Directory. Then Drag and Drop the avi files were specified. Wait for them to convert then transfer them to the my_flix folder on your miniSD.

I tried looking for a tutorial that better explains it but I couldn't find it. Hopefully you can at least get started with this.

Posted by: influxed

The converter re-encodes the movies I believe, and resizes them into QVGA. QVGA resolution is really small and it uses half the frame rate of normal movies. So the file comes out small. You can even pick a smaller resolution if you want, but QVGA should be small enough. I encoded Batman begins which is over two hours and it came out to be 400~MB. Albeit it was at a 2.66 aspect ratio.

I followed your example and i was able to get a Sony video i shot of my cat and the Kleenex box, converted. I then had to go to BitPim and my data cable to Phone connected.
1. Open BitPim
2. Go to: \brew\16452\mf\
3. Right click on mf\
4. click "New file"
5. select the file i had just converted.(I use my desktop 4 converted location)
it may take a minute er two for the file to load onto the phone.
6. Go to \dload\
7. Right click "Video.dat"
8. Select delete.
9. Reboot phone.
10. Enjoy efforts.
BUTT
I then tried to send my flix (the cat File) to my sis in law for a laugh but no go. Any id-ers on how to ship it to her phone in a email message?
I donwanna have her go to a website to picker up so thats not an option.

Posted by: influxed

I bet if the file size was small and not greater than 15 seconds you could send it.

New to forum...... just wondering what kind of settings I need to change WMV files to 3gp for my LG vx8100 using the xilisoft program because anything I try to do now using the defaults just come out blury and video and audio not matching up. Anyone can help me?

Posted by: influxed

For the video try upping the bitrate until you find a good size to quality ratio. Can't really help on the audio though.

Posted by: hitsbombs

I tried your method, and I can see the video's stored on the mini sd, but when I try to view them on the phone, it doesn't read them. Any help? Yes, another newbie....

Posted by: LeRoy3

Is the video file a name or a number not generated by you? if it is a number not generated by you. Pull the battery off the phone for 15 seconds. put it back on and then try it. If it is a name that you gave it on your computer maybe the wrong conversion took place before storing it on your sd. That's what happend to me. Try another type conversion.

Posted by: mrdutt

I cant figure out how to use this program, once I set the output directory, what do I do???, up where it says drag and drop files, there are no files, so what do I do?

Posted by: LeRoy3

So ahh. Your trying to convert a video file that you do not have?
In other words if you do not have a file to convert, why load a converter?

Im trying to pay attention but my utilities are outragious.

Posted by: influxed

You're supposed to drag the video files into that location to start the conversion.

Posted by: mrdutt

cool, thanks!!!, its working

Posted by: livefromboredom

you can use a 1gb minisd with the 9800 ? i thought it was unable....

Posted by: Drewbxr99

wow this worked awsome

question can it do mpeg files also or only AVI

If you can view the mpeg clip on Quick Time 7.0.3
That interface has a converter . One of those conversions is to 3gp.
I didnt say the conversion is fast, and there was no obvious hour glass to show the progress.

how can i change the resoultion tpye because i got the 3gp converter on your link, selected your setting and it gave me a resolution of 176x144 and looks perfect on the front but after i flip it open and press the up button to make it fullscreen it loses resolution and its not as clear anymore,
is this the way it is or im i doing somthing wrong

Posted by: the "V"

found out in another thread to change your settings

General: 3GPP+AAC General Setting with Xvid ecoding
-QVGA High quality 15fps Stereo

Does anyone know if there is through bitpim or ANY way to make your videos 30fps? i have the 15 its annoying to me, just bought the phone, litterally last night want to start getting videos on there any help would be appreciated

Posted by: dukrous

The 3GPP codec specifies a maximum framerate of 15FPS. This is not a phone limitation, but software.

Posted by: Worloc918

great info thanks!

Posted by: mooshkins

I am getting the idea that you can download movies onto your 9800, but the frame rate makes it go slow?
Thanks

Posted by: dukrous

No, the frame rate just makes its look less smooth. TV works at 30 FPS, and movies at 24 FPS. The 9800 loves 15 FPS, so we get the less "frames" per second which means less smooth motion (my english prof is having a heart attack right now).

Posted by: ztkraptor

Why do you put it at 500kb/s man i use around 75-90 on m 8100 and the picture is SICK...i think your overdooing it

Posted by: IamDannyD

for some reasone i keep getting an error message after conversion looks like this....

i feel i am very close to this lol i want to win! damn it vx9800 play my damn vids!

Has anyone had problems with their video not syncing with the audio?
The GP2 files I make work fine on the computer, but on my 9800 the video seems to lag behind.

is there a way to put the video file on the phone without a mini sd, because on the 9800 i see i can hold up to about 55mb

Yeah, you should be able to do it through USB/Bluetooth using BitPim... but it really takes a long time to move files any larger than a couple of megs (and even that is very slow).

with bitmip i cant add any video files to the video section , it says i can only put in image files

Okay, I must be missing something, but when I try to run this program I get an error saying: "language file directory (languages) not found". Anyone know what this means? I can't find the answer anywhere.

Did anyone ever figure out how to fix the audio sync issues? Every video I have put on the phone is out of sync.

hopefully you have already been helped, BUT here goes

the8100 video size is 176*144, and it will also play 240*192 ( but it crops the edges )

it will not play 220*176 or 320*240

frame rate is 15fps or 12.5 fps I use 'SUPER' for my video encoding conversion

it even lets you increase the volume of the sound

instructions & download from this page http://www.erightsoft.net/Superdc.html

settings i use are

3G2, 176*144, 192k bit rate, ACC audio at 56k,

increase volume is under 'options' 'other'

use SUPER no audio sync problems

Super seems a bit more complicated than the converter from this thread. Can you tell me what settings you use?

Posted by: themopedwhiz

for the 9800 with source file 25fps avi

sony-erikson, 3G2 , mpeg4 , ACC , res 320*240 , 12.5fps , 192 OR 240 bitrate

audio rate 56k

for the 8500 res is 240*192 , everything else is the same as above

for the 8300 & 8100 res is 176*144 , everything else is the same

ALL phones..if your source file is a 15fps OR 30fps MPEG I-II file use 15fps forthe output

video clip for chocolate 240*192 will play on the 9800
http://rapidshare.com/files/4953335...ums-240-192.3G2

video clip for 9900 might NOT play on 9800, 320*240 @ 25fps 240k bitrate
http://rapidshare.com/files/4958181...icVo320-240.3G2

The source file has to be 25fps? I dont the fps for every file I want to put on my phone.

Posted by: housin

I just checked and most of the vids on my computer are 28-30fps and are avi's or mpegs. Do I need the source file to be a certain speed?

Posted by: housin

I just figured out that I dont have audio sync problems unless I go full screen. The audio works fine, as long as I have the annoying header/controls present. ARRRGH.

you need to know the speed , because the best conversion ressults are achevied when you can set the encoded output to be 1/2 of the input, NO dropped or skipped frames in the conversion to maintain speed and audio sync

set 28 to ouput at 14

set 30 to output at 15

many of mine are 25fps so i usually encode at 12.5, trying to use 15 will cause them to have some frames that are torn or shifted out line

[QUOTE=housin]I just figured out that I dont have audio sync problems unless I go full screen. The audio works fine, as long as I have the annoying header/controls present. ARRRGH.[QUOTE]

what video bitrate did you use, what video frame rate did you output, this problem usually happens when the phone display can't keep up with the amount of data encoded because the bitrate-frame rate combination is too much, what screen size RES did you use

Posted by: housin

I dont have any of that info! The program I use is the one influxed posted at the start of this thread and it doesnt give you any of those options, it just encodes. I have DL super, but like we are discussing in the other thread I cant get it to work. When I hit encode, the progress bar flies from a to b and then I get an error message.

Posted by: robm3725

has anyone tried the Plato DVD to 3GP Converter ????

http://www.dvdtompegx.com/html/download.html

this converter takes DVD's and converts them directly to 3GP.

Posted by: housin

I tried it with avi's/Mpeg's on my computer and I have the same audio sync issues as I do with the program influxed posted about! RAAAAAHHH. Using the 320 @ 15fps. No audio sync issue until I go full screen This program like the other ones dont give you any other option but 15fps. Super does, but I have DL all the FFD show filters I can and still cant make Super convert anything.

Posted by: housin

I dl wedding crashers in mp4 format. Unfortunately its a really crappy camcordered/theatre version.....however, when converting it from straight mp4 to 3gp I have no audio sync problems. Ive also had this result with a katt williams stand-up mp4. So it appears that converting mp4 to 3g is the way to go. Can I now convert any video on my computer to mp4, then to 3g to make them not have audio sync issues?

Posted by: themopedwhiz

use 3G2 works better than 3GP

look at the extensions on the movies the phone records

3G2 not 3gp, the phone use 3G2 for it's native format

Just a heads up. If you get software 05 and try this the videos will play with no sound.... I learned the hard way.
