Anyone else get the D-357 yesterday?

We got ours!

I must say that I'm fairly impressed. The ptt works very well, provided that the other individual understands how it works.... The initialization of the ptt session takes around 5 seconds, then the conversation is very very fast.
The bluetooth device detection and setup is really fast! Faster than any other phone I've used. Best of all, the ptt can be used through a BT headset! You still push the ptt button on the handset, but all sound comes through the headset. Just out of curiosity, do any iden handsets have that capability?

In any case, if you got yours, post your impressions!

Still waiting on ours here. I had no idea that you could do PTT over bluetooth. That's kinda neat! Hopefully, they'll be here today since I got confirmation from my manager that the phones shipped out already.

Posted by: Rcadden

Yeah my buddy in a Corp. store said yesterday that he got his. Also noted that Samsung GAVE them to their store, as in they're not corp. issue, like he could ebay it if he wanted to (not that he's going to).

I doubt any iDen phones can bluetooth PTT cause there's only one that has Bluetooth. Honestly, sometimes I look at Nextel's phones and plans and whatnot, and wonder how they managed to stay around for as long as they did.

ya, my coworker is PTT over bluetooth right now and I'm like "cool! I didn't know that!"

My phone is at another store (since I've been transfered twice in 3 months.... well a 2 week period anyway) but I'm going to go get it when the closer gets here............. 20 minutes from now

Posted by: soundwave9

I got mine yesterday as well. Audio quality over PTT is as clear as a regular voice call. After the initial connection delay of 8 sec, the connection is instant. The handset is light but feels solid and durable.

You mean to say that if I want a phone with PTT I'm no longer required to carry around a cinder block?

Posted by: cingularkelly

I am having trouble with mine, It keeps saying that the other person is not available?? and they are... apart from that I like it.

Posted by: big-poppa3

we got them last night, and after a little doing got them all up and running. so far they're a nifty toy, and we're all having a good time playing with them. time will tell if they'll actually sell as a business tool, as Cingular is hoping. the phone itself is pretty cool. I like the light weight, especially in contrast to the 9300 I'm using as my primary line. the only thing that I miss is a camera. you'd think that a BT phone would be equipped with one, but I guess not. the fact that neither of the PTT launch phones have a camera is an oversight in my opinion.

Posted by: cingularkelly

I too wish that they had a camera, but I will sacrifice that for the bluetooth and speaker phone.

My best guess would be that the Ptt is directed towards busniess users, not really towards the people who want neat toys....
Don't get me wrong, I like a camera on my phone as much as the next guy, but it does make the phones more appealing as a "tool" without them...

I can't tell you how many times I hear "Oh.. A Camera?... I'm don't want all that, I just need to talk on it!..." Of course, this is where selling comes into play, but I hope you get my point.

I'd like to see a ptt phone with a decent camera, but I think Cingular needs to get some strong corporate use of the ptt network before doing heavy marketing to regular consumers... After all, thats where the stability is.

Posted by: tendura

Just got our PTT phones today. kinda quirky. Half the time it won't let me talk to people, and sometimes it will. When the call timer hits 5 seconds, it hangs up. But when it does work, it works pretty well.

has anyone from different markets tried doing it to see how it works?

Posted by: audiovoxx

were in southern california just got the samsungs and trying it out i love the bluetooth ptt its so cool and the set up is real simple..... now if it only had a camera..... oh well.
I wonder if when they re release the nokia 6682 it will feature ptt if it dose ill defenetly get it.
how is serivce working out in other markets??
one of my co workers and me are gonna play with it in mexico today see if it works there.

Posted by: tendura

anyone interested in experimenting with PTT across markets? PM me.

Posted by: nlwalker1

its a pretty cool phone.. i like how wide it opens up. i have found it easy to use and pretty stable. my team and i have been playing withthe thing all night. i just am waiting on the rest of my guys/gals to get there's. I wish we would have gotten these before Katrina. I really don't find a camera necessary but i it would be nice. Since the target market for PTT is business they didn't include it on these due to corporate security concerns. Soon i'm sure they will launch more devices esp ones with a camera and some rugged ones.

I just wish they would have put the PTT button on the other side of the phone.

I have to admit I am impressed with the bt on the phone. Works better than any other bluetooth phoen I have had...only problem is when I PTT i keep forgetting that when I have my bt on I do not need to talk into the phone when ptt'ing lol

Everyone PM me your PTT numbers!

Everythign I heard is they are targeting family plans first...they are gonna market family over business

you'd actually be surprised, I was a rep for Nextel for 4 years before jumping ship to Cingular (MIssed the AT&T boat), and when the I860 came out everyone, including my business customers jumped on it like it was the cure to aids. we sold hundreds the 1st few weeks. Now Nextel's still trying to catch up with the rest of the industry. I know a lot of businesses aren't interested in a camera phone, but not including one in the launch is just plain stupid. I know we're getting a variation on the V551 that will be camera/PTT enabled, but they should release it for the launch, just to save headaches. when we do get Camera/PTT phones I forsee a lot of exchanges, ineligible upgrades, and hassles. or, of course, there could be a case of them sitting in the store waiting for me to get there that I know nothing about. that seems to be happening a lot lately, too... ROKR, what's that?

Well your buddy is wrong.

Sure they were given to cingular by Samsung, but they were given to cingular, NOT to the reps. They are still cingular's property, just like the other COU phones.

If your friend sold his phone on Ebay, he would get fired.

Regardless of whether your buddy owns the phone or not, he can't sell it on eBay. Selling a phone on eBay by a Cingular employee would be a violation of the non-compete clause of his employment contract - regardless of his intentions.

Even if he found a Verizon phone on the street, he couldn't sell it on eBay. It would violate his employment agreement.

So, I wouldn't suggest that your buddy try it

Someone's selling one. guy's pretty dumb, too. so... we're not allowed to sell phones on Ebay, no matter what? uh oh

Posted by: big-poppa3

oh yeah, here's the link...

sorry...live ebay linking is against forum rules

Posted by: xplode

no pictures of the real phone? prolly a scam of some sort.

Posted by: tendura

This guy's just asking to get canned. He's out of his mind!

Just did a check at Cingular's website. There's only ONE COR location in Geneva, NY where this guy is supposedly from (according to Ebay). Shouldn't be too hard for them to find him.

Not the smartest one, now is he?

i'm having the same problem, mine works perfect as long as someone else starts the conversation. if i try to start it i get the same results it seems to connect then around 4-5 seconds it says they are unavailable.

Just curious since I haven't gotten mine yet. Can you use the voice dial or speakerphone (non PTT) with the D357?

Yes, and Yes.

Posted by: ultradev5

Thanks for the prompt response but in my haste to post, I forgot the most important part of my question. Can you use the voice dial or speakerphone with the lid closed?

Yes, you can. Works great! There's a little Voice Dial/Speaker Phone button on the top of the right hand side.

Posted by: ultradev5

I had a couple more questions regarding the speaker and voice capability, but will send you a PM instead. Thanks so much for your insights!

Ours came via FedEx

We should have them this week. I think it would be a great idea for everybody to get someones number from out of state. this would be a great selling tool when you are talking to a customer about the service. the demos are good, but if you are talking to someone across the country the cust. will be more impressed!!! I'm in NC, i would like people from all over. PM me if you think this is a good idea and want to give me your PTT number

Posted by: big-poppa3

I connected to a friend of mine who's an ASM in Maryland (I'm in NY metro) and it worked great. no more of a delay than hitting up the guy in the back of the store.

Posted by: tendura

A few of us here at HOFO are in a group and have had some pretty good PTT convos. Seems to work pretty well. The network dept took PTT offline for a little while last night to do some tweaking. It seems to have helped. I haven't had the availablity issues that I was having when I first got the phone. This launch should do wonders for my features. At least I hope it does!

Posted by: tendura

I guess that the launch has been pushed back to 11-27-05 now?

Anyone heard anything else?

Posted by: naviwilliams

...one quick question, is sending text/sms messages on this device, the same as using a Nokia? I'm tempted to get one, but...

Posted by: brody4

why would they release it on a sunday?

Posted by: tendura

Most new stuff launches on either a Sunday or Monday. But the new MEdiaNet launched today. Strange.
