Returned my black nano, got a Sony NW-E507

...and I couldn't be happier. The software sucks but the player lasts 10x longer on its battery.

The nano advertises 14hours, i was getting 6 at most. The Sony advertizes 50 hours, and i'm expecting 30-40. A magnitude of order higher battery life. Not to mention, it looks a lot cooler, and is far more portable.

The nano came with almost zero accessories whereas the sony was decked out and it came with decent (though still not as good as the sony in ear buds i've got) head phones.

The only thing i'm missing now is the memory capacity.

Any body else have one of these? Can you relate your experiences with it?

I used to have a Sony mp3 player. After using the software that comes with it, and experiencing Sony's customer service, I'd never buy another one.

How can you even compare the two? That's like apples and watermelons

Posted by: warnie

yeah I also had a sony. and of course, because of the software I'll never buy another one again. Now i have a 4gb black nano, and I'm very happy with it. The battery life doesn't bother me because I only use it in my car. Only need to charge it once a week.

im thinkin about switching myself from ipod to somethign else...thinking about the sony. Teachers in my school claim they know how you can cheat by the "notes" section in an ipod so now i cant even listen to music in testsz! anyway tell us how this is after you have had it for a while...

I was really impressed by that Sony when it was announced but I'll probably stay with Apple's iPods since all my computers use iTunes and it's just more convienent for me. I'm loving my nano .

wtf u can listen to things in tests?!?!

anyways

i own a ancient nwe3. lol i loved it, but its dead now. was thinking about picking the new nw series like the one you have. i love the look of it and the lcd display is really nice, kind of makes it a mp3 player and a "fashion accessory". the only thing i dont like about it, is the size. though its small, compared to the ipod, its relatively large compared to like that rectangular benq one.

but still its nice!

EDIT: wow 888 posts =D, same number on my license plate

Get one of those ones that look like a Bean . What a joke. That is as bad as Motorola's old Peanut phones .

Check out the NW-A1000 6GB with OLED:

(warning a few big images)

Imagine having a TV with that kind of screen. Camouflage.

Rio Carbons, they have great sound, feels good in the hand, are 6GB and they are cheap.

I have an 4th gen 40gb iPOD (No photo, no video) and wanted a small player, I looked at the Nano and found the Carbon a better buy at it was like $229 CDN on sale.

ipod suck. You have to use itunes, you cant transfer music from ipod to computer in case your re-installing alot ( like me) and itunes locks everythign down its just a pain. Its os much easier to buy another brand and just use windows media player. Hopefully tihs christmas i can ditch my mini and get somethign else. Maybe the sony

Posted by: JwY

i got a nwe405 when they were still expensive gah, heh
but i can relate with what you're saying, the battery lasts forever
anyways, i want to point a few things out to you in case you didn't know
there's an app that you put on the player so you can drag and drop files without using sonicstage
and secondly, there's a site which is pretty good
http://www.atraclife.com/index.php?showforum=8

i learned to change my screensavers and update firmware from there

You don't have to use iTunes and you can backup your music from your iPod. There's plenty of third-party options for managing your music collection, such as EphPod and iPodUtils.

Aren't you supposed to be concentrating on the "testsz" anyway? My guess is that you listen to music during the grammar section of the test?

Ha. Just kidding. My advice is to not get the iRiver. I didn't like it at all.

I can't play protected AAC files on any player except the apple ipod. My friend also tried to save some of my songs to his portable hard drive, and he couldn't put them on his Mp3 player when he got home because they were all protected.

Just use a search engine. First you remove the DRM (if any) from the infected Itunes file, then you get rid of the Apple garbage by stripping the headers or something to a standard .mp4 file. From there, you can convert it to whatever you want.

Sony cocked up big time with their first 20gb hard drive DAP. Not only was the software absolute shite (buggy, kept crashing etc) but they only supported ATRAC Sony's own format and not MP3. What a stupid move.

I tried to avoid ipods because up to the 4th generation the battery life was sooo poor and the battery replacement scheme was a con. So I bought an iriver h320 instead. Since then I've bought a mac and I adore itunes and the new ipods are better so I reckon my next DAP will most certainly be an ipod.

I agree, I returned by 4th generation iPOD just recently because it kept on crashing and to tell you the truth, I'm not a big fan of the clickwheel (I keep on scrolling too far).

I am in the market for a larger format player, the iRiver is a choice, as is the Archos 400, which looks like a game player.

i got the Sony Walkman Nw-A1000 (the 6 gig version) and the sftware is fine for me havent had a crash yet (toutch wood) i dont like ipods they are way over rated and common .
got the A1000 becuase my 2nd Rio Carbon broke

Posted by: Keitaro

when i had my MD player, the only thing that ruined the "experience" was definitely the software. What kind of software crashes when transfering 6 / 10 times? whats worse was the conversion to ATTRAC3.. eventually got a zen, though creative's software didnt crash, it didnt support asian characters, which was REALLY annoying when half ur ID tags wont display properly or even get detected in teh program. Itunes seems to be the best right now with no problem and easy syncing.

ew, for further experience it's knock on wood

I've got the blue one, the organic el is pretty cool, my only complaint is I can't see the display in the sun which LCD doesn't have that problem. Other then that though it's light and the battery life is awesome. Like everyone else has said though, the fact that you gotta use sonicstage is the eventual downfall of all sony MP3 products.

Posted by: chemikaldreem

just picked up a samsung yp-t8z 1gb player......i like it, but 1gb isnt enough. whats good about it?? well, the fact that i can play .ogg files---which are about half the size of mp3's when converted. also, i like the rugged look and feel of this thing, plus it plays videos....although 1gb isnt much video. maybe 1 mp4 episode of sanford and son, i suppose

Posted by: Poochi

really dumb question but how do i turn the player off. i have a Sony NW-A608

Posted by: Poochi

So I tried adding a playlist and it won't let me. I have a 2gig nano and just bought the sony Nw-A608. Complete garbage!!!! I downloaded everything and followed all the intructions. Can anyone help me get the playlist to work?

sony sucks, cost expensive with the worst quality...
All the sony products I have, have broke down before. Not even I can last long more than 5 months. I protected them so well of course...

I have an iPod and a Sony. Definitely prefer the Sony, and have never had a problem with Sony software.
The main thing though is sound quality, the iPods do have terrible sound quality.
They constantly rank last in terms of sound quality.
I also think Sony's design team is fantastic.
Apple needs to totally re-design the iPod it's looks are very stale and getting old quickly.

That's true, I second that. In terms of sound quality, ipod is worse than my old Sony MD player. The only thing I like from my ipod is that I store all of my songs in iTunes and it's just easier for me to transfer songs.

Yes, iTunes is a great system simply because it's idiot proof.
Its very easy to do just about anything but then I have also had excellent results with Sonic Stage although I seem to be the only one.
Cheers, LL-

man, when I first got an ipod, I had such difficulty with itunes (i suppose because I like to set things myself rather than have things happen in the background..), hence me returning my nano..

I also returned my sony NW-e507 and have returned to using my handheld computers or PSP for my portable multimedia.
