Did I brick my 6800 just by using a DKU-5?

I recently purchased a DKU-5 cable for my 6800a from eBay. I plugged it into my phone... got the "Data accessory connected" message, installed the drivers and Oxygen Phone Manager, and plugged my phone in. It was recognized on COM15 (
), and OPM proceeded to read all the data off the phone fine, with no problems.
I then decided to add a number to a contact. I did it, then hit the button to write data to the phone, and the phone turned off. I took out the battery and put it back in, and tried to turn the phone back on, and the screen stays black, but the backlight flashes on for a few seconds, then the phone totally turns itself back off. If you plug in the wall charger, the screen goes to the regular charging screen.
Is there any way to salvage this phone? I don't understand how the data cable could've done this.
I've tried using two different batteries, turning the phone on with and without SIM cards, everything. I can't get it to work at all.
TIA for any help.
