GaCancun,

1. No
2. No

Neither phone supports PTT. The only smartphone that supports PTT is the new Motorola i930...available on Sprint/Nextel.

Does anyone know when the c600 is going to be released over on Orange...maybe that might be a good choice if Cingular can't get its act together...that and it doesn't have the "hump".

It's the guts of this phone.

That's what I've been saying all along that the presence of the hump combined with the lack of the hump on the wifi sp5 means the hump is for something else.

If this phone truly does get better reception inside homes and buildings then it's going to be a no brainer to buy this one over a SP5 without hump. Of course, I'll be bummed about the wifi, but the better reception is a much more important option to my everyday business use.

Hopefully someone can take an smt5600 and a 2125 out on a side by side reception test in a variety of locations with questionable signals and post a review somewhere. That's the review I need to see.

Cool. Thanks. Now I finally got to see it.

According to the B2B rep I just spoke to, rebates found on the retail site do not apply to Premier purchases....

Retail 2125 - $199 after MIR
My companies Premier site 2125 - $279

WTF...

Posted by: CeluGeek

Now I wish Cingular would post the user's manual online.

The Cingular website is the last place you will find a phone. They never said that a 2120 would be out at the same time. I bet they will eventually release one but who knows when. I myself was looking forward to the 2120.

are both SIM's the same type? are they both preferring the same color network? if they are - that's quite a difference - although it would've been pretty difficult to get any worse than the smt5600.

OUT FOR DELIVERY .... You guys were right!!! UPS man usually delivers between five and seven pm..... so I will be anxiously waiting for him!

The following is self-explanatory. I included pictures of the box and packaging as there has been interest for that in the past. Enjoy and let the games begin.

Just got off the telesales line with a confirmed order at $399.99 with no commitment or contract extension. Thirty day return policy starts with the order date, because they upgraded me to free express shipping (1-2 business days). The salesmant was sure it was federal express, although I told him all the confirmed deliveries on the fan (I mean forum) sites were UPS.

Now just keep my fingers crossed for a new toy in time for Christmas (got to get a new avatar as well - where's the 2125!

by the way, if you are looking at that modem driver portion of the above image the phone needs to be put into the modem mode *after* the modem software installs (you will not get any confirmation that the software installs). You can do this by going got Start -> accessories -> ModemLink. Choose USB and 'Activate' and your phone should pop up on your PC as a modem.

Man, that is great news on BOTH counts. Now I'll go nuts until Monday waiting for it to arrive.

Mine was Fed-Ex and it's at home waiting for me right now.

I have not had that much time to go through the phone yet but I have done my first sync. Has anyone found out how to keylock the phone? I went through various menus and the PDF manual but I can't find out how to do so. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

BTW I love the size and screen. Some mentioned that one handed dialing was very difficult but it is okay for me. So far I am very pleased. I am coming from an SX66 and a K-Jam most recently.

If it is anything like the SMT 5600, just press and hold the END key. Also, you may be able to access the menu by pressing the power button.

Hold the red phone button for approx 2-3 seconds. That should engage the keylock.

Speaking of the power button. I would have to say that is the one downside to the phone. It is a real pain to push.

Posted by: stevoca03

Kind of a weird question, but something that drove me crazy with my MPX was there was no auto update on the time. Does the 2125 have it? My MPX would reset all the time, and the time would change, it screwed me up a lot.

Haven't checked the 2125 yet, but on the 8310 you press and hold the end key to activate the keylock, and hit Unlock and * to unlock (and thank you MS for changing to the * from the #; much easier to do).

Posted by: JT4

Thanks Jesterhs and 330Cane. That did the trick. I am sure I would have found it somewhere in the documentation but I did not have the time right now. Unlock is self explanatory....

The 2125 does update the time automatically but for some crazy reason does not update your *timezone* -- all my appointments were off an hour until I fixed this (Start -> Settings -> Clock and Alarm)

I think someone was asking about using the 2125 as a wireless bluetooth modem.

clips from the manual (I have not done this myself yet):

Those of you that have a new 2125, what headsets are you using? Any issues?
I'm specifically curious if the 2125 can send caller id info to a bt800 or which BT profile it uses.

Posted by: lopezpm

I just got home and it was here waiting for me. I like it a lot. The only thing I don't like so far is the power button. Also I was charged $214.99 for it. It was ordered from the Premier website.

I took a look at it and it is meant for W2003. Has anyone used it with WM5? The 2125 keylock is not what I really want as any key lights up the screen and prompts the "*" key to unlock. I think that this will drain my batteries quicker from bumping the keys unintentionally. I am so used to my SX66 and K-Jam that only one button unlocks the phone and lights up the screen otherwise it stays dark. If there is a program that will do this I will get or buy it right away. Thanks.

I agree the power button is not good but I never shut my phone off so it is not an issue for me.

Is that price ($214.99) after rebate with shipping? That is what I am paying after rebate with shipping and a 2yr. agreement If not are you offered the rebate on top if it? I assume you added another 2 years to your contract, yes? I feel like going back to Cingular and ask whats up with the great variety of pricing. Do tell if you don't mind. I am trying to compare notes.

From what I have read the caller id should work on any phones running wm05..

Could someone please check and see if voicedial works over BT with the keypad locked..

Congratulations. That's 199.99 plus 14 S/H... That's probably the best you can do with CING...

You got a point there, I never turn my phones off either. I paid $227.89 after taxes. I asked Premier and they told me I was not allowed to use the rebate since I got the Corp. discount. When I ordered the phone, it showed a price of $239.99 + tax. So I am pretty happy they actually only charged me what they did. Same thing happened when I ordered the MPx220. My online receipt showed one price and when I got the phone, the order receipt showed a lower price. I was charged the lower price. I just want to say again that this is a sweet phone. oh yeah, all this was with a 2 year contract

I don't know much about XML but on this page if you click on the download link to the left, there's a link to a WM5 and 2003 version of the software. I can't figure out how to install the damn program though.

I should have looked closer. That is a .CAB file. It is a compressed file format. Transfer that file into your phone while connected to your PC. Using file manager on the phone find the file where you copied it to and launch it. It will install itself. I will try it when I get get home later tonight.

I first had the same problem
you just can't push the button in you have to push the button DOWN TOWARDS THE SCREEN
then a menu pops up with many selections including off

SO DON'T PUSH IN HARD FROM THE TOP OF THE BUTTON PUSH IT DOWN NOT IN

I'm using the HS850 Motorola, and it works very well. Good loud clear audio in both directions, which is a big improvement over the 5600.

I know someone quoted 169 before, was that you cw?
I paid around 200 which I think is a fair price for this phone.
Fair cause it too 6 or 7 calls to get there ))
It also shows the reps have alot of room to maneuvre if only they want to...

By the way you really need a miniSD card to complement phone's media capabilities.... Here is the link to one of the cheapest stores with free UPS Ground shipping:

Does anyone know if a firmware update would enable WiFi on this. It seems stupid that they would make a whole different phone just to leave out the WiFi chipset. I'm just thinking that maybe cingular wanted it turned off so that they could charge there customers for using their EDGE service.
Any thoughts.

I was offered $169 w/2 yr commitment so long as I did at least the $39 450minute plan + $19 net media thingy

OR

$679 for 1 yr or no commitment

I'm currently TDMA going month to month

Still trying to decide. Hate to go 2 years, but guess if only $150 to break the contract, guess still not all that bad of a deal.

Omega, not to break your heart but I ma yet to see a one MOTO product that is well designed, build and has a logical interface.
MPX220 was/is a smartphoen but from what I heard it is not the best way to be introduced to windows mobile...

Even if you paid the ETF the phone would only cost you $370... Much better than $679...

Hi all,
I received a 2125 today. I must say I am impressed. Solid build, above average Rf. Rf is really important to me. So I thought I would pass my findings.

Last week I had a Sony Ericsson W600 and I was realy impressed by the Rf similar to Nokia 6230 and 6682. While the 2125 does not match the w600 it is very close. I qualify this by my drive home. I go through 4 sections of very low to non existant signal. The 2125 made it through all but one. The w600, 6230.6682 would hold signal through all areas but barely or loose signal depending on the day. So loosing signal on this section is somewhat expected. I am impressed.

In the past I have also also used a Mpx220 I would consider it average ( I would loose signal on 2 sections of my drive). I had a SP5M for one day. The rf was HORRIBLE ( I lost signal on all 4 sections of low rf).

So in the end I the the hump is a good thing, at least from an rf signal stand point.

Cheers

OK you guy's have heard Microsoft is now(today) being sued over push mail? I wonder if it's why MS has been so slow with the updated WM5.

Anyone having trouble connecting their 2125 to their computer via Activesync 4.1? I just got my 2125 today and installed Activesync 4.1. When I connect the phone to the computer via the usb cable, the computer recognizes the hardware and then Activesync takes over and attempts to connect and it just hangs with the green icon spinning as it attampts to connect.

Thanks.

I'm not sure who quoted that price, but it sure sounds like a REALLY GOOD PRICE

I think what really matters is what number you call and who you are redirected to. I migrated so that dept. has some really nice folks. 90 minutes on the phone with them was 100x better than 5 minutes on the phone with NBO.

I live in CA though, so it's not about the price. It's about the tax, and THAT is what I'm anxious about

Yes, I had the same experience. I rebooted the phone and now it works perfectly.

I would like to say thanks to all of you for posting your 2125 prices. I've been reading the posts and decided to call Cing out of curiosity. I was fairly lucky and the first guy I got quoted me $249 (including $100 rebate and 1 year upgrade). That seems to be average and also jives with the posted price on the web.

So I'm hoping that I can actually use this rebate. I asked him if I had to sign up for an "unlimited data plan" and he said that he saw no restrictions listed. I have the MEdia Works bundle already with Nation 900. I asked him to double check that the rebate would apply to me and he said yes, with MEdia Works, I am fine and the rebate will apply. Anyone have comments about that?

He threw me a curve ball and told me that "the phone will not function properly without the $39.99 unlimited data plan IN ADDITION TO the MEdia Works bundle". I asked why and he said that the phone was like a Blackberry and they must have a stand alone data plan. I asked how that data plan differed from the 5mb included in my MEdia bundle other than price and he didn't have an answer. He said that my bill would be "out of control" without the additonal data plan (right there contradicting his earlier statement about how the phone wouldn't even work without it.) I said that I would like to "give it a shot" and just leave my plan unchanged. He agreed.

Thought you guys would get a laugh out of that one.

Of course his computer wasn't working correctly and wouldn't tell him if the phone was in stock, so he says that he's going to call me tomorrow by six to let me know the deal. I'll be waiting!!....just kidding. Needless to say I placed the order with very low expectations. Maybe it'll work out, who knows.

I thought xpressmail was pretty good when I had a SMT5600. Only drawback I remember was that it did not integrate well with the built in calendar.

HAs anyone manged to transfer files using bluetooth on the 2125? If so in what direction and using what devices. My V3, Mac and PC don't seem to be able transfer files or VCARDs. This is likely a deal breaker for me. Thanks.

Posted by: iJITSU

Man, the web browsing is great on this. I have an 8310 also, and I guess I didn't have it set up correctly because the 2125 is so much faster when browsing. Outlook Web Access using Opera is quick enough to be practical for remote corporate email access (was painfully slow on smt 5600).

Hahah I was not introduced to Windows Mobile when I got the Mpx 220.

I had in the following sucession:

Miltac Mio, MPx 200, SMT 5600, and the MPx 220.

I got my phone today. I made a couple of calls, and from then on (without changing any settings on the phone) the word "searching..." appeared on the home screen instead of "Cingular", and I'm not able to make or receive calls anymore, even though I have 4 bars showing for signal strength. I've rebooted the phone a couple of times, waited an hour, performed a rain dance, but nothing works. Does anybody know what could be wrong?

Thanks

Same thing with the SMT-5600. Irritated me too, but I just used USB since I was using it to sync anyway and its tons faster than Bluetooth.

Oh yeah? I was running around with Red E.....
Just kidding. Mitac is impressive since it shows you were well ahead of the program. I just have my grief with Moto product since some unsuccesfull buys few years ago and I do not think they got better, misguided products like ROKR are another proof...
I hear Mpx220 was just terrible, software hangs, phone reboots as it see fit etc etc. Nolthing like SMT5600, then again you are being punished for buying MOTO products.
SMT5600 was so good it made me jump ships from series 60...

I posted earlier about the ActiveSync 4.1 connection problem. After doing some research and debugging my installation, it turns out ActiveSync is really picky and causes many conflicts. My problem happened to be an incompatability with the Cisco VPN client. Once I uninstalled it and then reinstalled ActiveSync, it finally connected.

Also note, to sync with your Outlook contacts, you have to have installed the latest version of Outlook 2002 service pack 3 or Outlook 2003.

Hope you all enjoy your new toy.

Just got mine yesterday so figure I should give my mini-review and at the same time, maybe ask a few questions.

First, let me say that this is my first Smartphone, so I really didn't know what to expect. My experience with Windows mobile devices is pretty limited. I had a very old (at least 5 years) CE device that I inherited from the previous IT manager at my last job. But a few weeks ago I bought the PPC-6700. Unfortunately it just didn't work with the BT in my car and I had to return it after a week.

As far as PDAs, I've always been a Palm user. I've owned 4 or 5 of them starting with one of the early U.S. Robotics branded ones with my current on being a Tungsten 3.

I kind of expected the 2125 to be the same thing without the touch-screen. Unfortunately that's obviously not the case. So for me, that was a major disappointment. But I can't really fault the phone for my misinformed expectations. But at the same time, I can't really compare it to any other Smartphones on the market. For my own use though, I'll still have to worry about carrying 2 devices for all my PDA needs.

My first impression after opening the box was "Wow, this thing is SMALL." I don't know why I expected it to be bigger. After taking it out of the box I was very impressed with the how well built it felt. Enough weight that it doesn't feel cheap and light enough that it doesn't feel like a brick. The taper from top to bottom feels really nice in my hands. The screen looks great and even off, it's really a great looking phone.

There's no doubt that while the 6700 was a PDA first, this is really a phone first with some extra nice features. The way you find contacts with this thing is tremendous. Again, I don't know if this is standard for all Smartphones, but I really like it.

So far the BT has worked well with my car. But the 6700 worked OK the first day too. I'll have to wait a few days to see if this one will continue to work. I don't get battery or signal strength in the display, but that's OK. All I really care about is caller-ID and having it not drop the BT connection.

Yes, the hump is a little strange, but so far I've been very impressed with the RF. Either that or my signal gauge is broken and it always reads 4 bars. If that's the price we have to pay, I'm will to put up with it. The on\off button is odd to say the least. But someone else gave the hint of pushing toward the screen and that seems to be the secret. But I seldom turn off the phone so I guess it's not a big deal.

But that brings up my first question. On the 6700 there was a reset button for doing soft resets. I assume powering cycling this one is the equivalent since I don't see any other way to do it other than taking out the battery. I also assume you have to use the CLEAR MEMORY to do a hard reset.

I also don't see any way to really customize the main screen or to change button mappings. Do I need a 3rd party prog. to do that or am I missing something?

I haven't really played with the voice commands much. I seldom use the phone other than in the car. I haven't played with the camera much either, but I was a little shocked to not see some type of flash on it. I also haven't been able to get BT to work with ActiveSync yet. I had it working with the 6700, but no luck so far with the 2125. Not a big deal, but hopefully others will at least confirm that it works.

Well this is long enough for now. I still haven't decided if I want to keep this or not. As a phone, I really like it. But it's kind of expensive as just a phone. As a PDA, it's really lacking.

Hello everyone. I hope those who have their phones are enjoying them and for those who are waiting for their phone I hope you get them soon.

I have a question and I can't research it myself since the phone is not in the stores yet so I can't look at it. On my 2125 the joystick is not centered. You can see more of a gap around the joystick on the bottom than the top. That means it appears that by default it's up. It still works but you don't get the same grip from the top as you do from the bottom. Is this normal? Can someone reply to let me know if I have a phone that was put together wrong or if it should be that way.

Thanks!

Upon close inspection it does seem that the joystick is not centered in the round opening in the middle of the keys. The joystick still seems to come straight out and not angled up. It is not really that noticeable and it does not bother me at all.

There was a sticker on my manual regarding some issue with VPNs and ActiveSync. Even if you don't have a VPN, you may want to check the web site it referenced for some clues.

I agree, and noticed this right out of the box. Its not that the joystick isn't centered. If you look at the phones profile, you'll notice that the area where the keys are (the bottom) tapers in. So the bottom of the phone is thinner than the middle. The joystick sticks strait out, but the gap is because the "Call" and "End" button slants down to follow the taper of the phone. I find the joystick very comfortable and easy to use. Hope that helps clear that up.

Mine is just like this, too, although I think it's by design. If you look carefully at the profile of the front of the phone you'll notice that it slopes downward near the bottom.

My guess is that the printed cicuit board that the joystick is mounted on (which is flat, naturally) is in line with (or even the same as) the display. This causes the joystick to look slightly out of whack with the keypad although it is perfectly straight with respect to the display.

EDIT: Just noticed someone already addressed this. Woops.

Any of you new owners upgrading from the SMT 5600 to the 2125? I'm waiting for mine, and wondering what precautions or problems come from the AS 3.8 to AS 4.1 and all of the stuff on your old mini-SD card. I assume it's like most PDA or smartphone upgrades, better just to reinstall everything.

all 4 of my 2125's are the same way. If you look at the phone from the side the joystick is actually parallel to the bottom of the phone, it's just that the curve of the phone makes the joystick have more space on the bottom than the top.

Regardless the tactile feedback is the same in either direction (read: there's no 'play' in using the joystick) so it works just fine. The more I use it the more I like it.

Edit: OK I obviously need to read all of the posts b 4 I post as this is the third answer. I think the joystick question can officially be closed.

taveanator,

Your phone list shows the Nokia 6010 as well. How would you compare the 2125's RF performance (not RF "bars") vs the 6010?

Posted by: azek01

The Clearvue Suite on the CD seems to have to be installed in the rom/flash memory to work. When I installed it on my miniSD card it created a folder structure named Windows and inside was all the clearvue files and a Start folder with the links to the program. Need to try and figure out a way to fix that, because that sucks.

I think it's a SIM issue. MY 2125's were shipped without SIMs accidentally so I used an old one just to power it up and make calls. When the new SIMs came in this morning all I am getting is 'Searching...' The ironic thing is that the data portion works fine (I can send and receive emails just fine).

I'm off to the Cing. store to get a replacement SIM.

I called tech support this morning and the problem is not with my phone. Apparently for some people who activated their phone yesterday, a Cingular billing software bug was sending the wrong info to the Home Location Register (the computer that tracks all the info for the phones in that area) and that's why mine's stopped working. They said it would take up to 24 hours to fix it for my phone number...

Oh, no question about the 6010's performance. I'm using the older 3590 from eBay (not even a color screen) and the RF perfomance is so good, I have been ignoring all the lack of features and persistent dust under the screen cover.

I guess my question is really back to the RF. That is, how the new 2125 stacks up against one of the best, the Nokia 6010.

Sorry for the confusion.

Have you guys played any videos on it yet? Mine has a big black border around it when I play in full screen, it makes the video tiny. It's bigger in the standard window than in the full screen.

Posted by: adamjrae

Thanks for everyone getting back to me about the joystick. It makes complete sense but then again the glass to me is always empty and it will never fill up. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with my phone.
On that subject let me talk about my phone.
+s: keypad feels great, large nice screen, nice comm button on left side, sound quality is great, I love the new menu system, I can still use my phone as a Edge modem through my notebook, the battery door does not slide around like my smt5600(I hated that when typing), Love how tasks sync over the air now,
-s: I actually had to read the book to find out how to turn on my phone. The power button is a tad weird at first, I actually had to read the book on how to open up the battery door, I DON'T like the joystick-I like my smt5600 joystick better but that is just me, My windows 2003 server notebook with media player (I work in computer infrastructure) won't see the phone so I can't sync my napster collection unless I sync from my XP machine, the software I use from Developerone.com has not been released for WM5 yet but it will be in 2 months(I suggest you check it out if you use your calendar and/or tasks on your phone), I'm not too happy with the amount of free space on the phone for data. I did a activesync and I only have 7Meg of space free,

Over all I'm very happy. No phone is perfect but the SMT5600/C2125 by far have been the best phones I have used.

Thanks for such a great forum!

Your videos have to be the correct resolution to have them show correctly. I learned this with 2003 and WM9 on my MPx. If you download Windows Media Encoder and reformat your videos in 240 x 320 they work perfect. Takes some time though. Maybe someone can recomend some software a little easyer to use..

Hope that helps

Does anyone know of a list of SP 5.0 Compatible software? I found a PPC 5.0 thread in the PPC section of HoFo, but nothing for SP5.0. I downloaded and installed a game that was supposed to be compatible with the new resolution, but it shows in the center with 1/2 inch of black around the edges. (Very small in the center)

I tried it both ways and I get the same size. Oh well time to start searching the web.

Well I got Clearvue to work and open documents. I had to go into the SD card and create shortcuts to the .exe files then drag the shortcuts into ROM memory in /windows/startmenu

Posted by: CeluGeek

Cingular added the Device Tutorial for the 2125 on their support area. The screenshots are very low-quality. No user's guide yet though.

Posted by: Jakaroe808

Well, I'm tethered and I must say E kicks G's ***. I know with my MPx I had to enter some "extra initialization commands" in the Modem Properties for it to work correctly. I have the 2125 working without extra command but I wanted to be sure that I'm using the GPRS and not getting charged some other rate aside from my unlimited Media Net. I thought the MPx worked without the extra commands, but it was more for how Cingular saw you signed in? Am I making sense? Can someone shed some light on this for me? Edge is a lot faster.. 20x at least. It is almost as fast as the DSL we have in our office. Nice

Edit: I ran some more speed tests. It seems to run fast at time and then slows. I did a few speed tests on DSLreports.com Here is what I got.

Download: 119kbps, 138kbps, 85kbps, 129kbps
Upload: 42kbps, 38kpbs, 35kbps, 40kbps

Not all that great but it is speedy enough to surf a bit. A big step up from GPRS IMOH.

I just finished my migration call. I got the 2125 for $169.99 + tax and overnight shipping. Comes out to just below $200. I had to sign on for 2 years, and add unlimited media net to my plan. As a user stated above, not a bad deal!

Does fedex deliver on saturdays?

anyone using activesync over bluetooth? i can make it work no problem with one computer, but want to have it work with two computers simultaneously. if i do bluetooth and cable i can get both to connect at the same time, but if i do bluetooth on both... only one can be connected at a time?

any ideas??

If they are using FedEx Home they do. Home is off Sundays and Mondays.

Just wanted to add some observations. Reception seems real good in comparison to my SX66 (backup phone) and K-Jam (sold). I get several or full bars of reception in most of my warehouse which is typically poor reception no matter what cell service you have. Sound quality has been good so far. I am very pleased with the apparent build quality and overall feel. The screen is quite nice IMO. I like the size. I was expecting it to be larger.

I have paired the phone with my Sony Ericsson HBH-660. I was never able to keep the pairing reliably on my previous phone mentioned above. I will see what happens with the 2125. The HBH-660 is caller ID capable but does not display the CID with the 2125. I would be curious to see if the BT800 does or the newer SE Bluetooth CID headset. Anyone having success with a headset that has CID?

Anyone know if apps can run on Windows mobile 5 for pocket PC and the 2125
I'm looking into buying this app PocketStreamer Pro:
but would like to know when I get the 8125 will it work also on both the 8125 and 2125 ? ??

I also have another question
Sirius Satilite radio I can listen on my PC if I have an account I wonder if I can listen on the 2125.
I would think I could, I can browse most all reguler web pages with this phone and in the past with my old smt5600.
Also this browser is much better at looping Weather radar then my 5600
the 5600 would not loop my local live radar just show a static page.
I also love the faster EDGE speed.

Google local / Maps works on the 2125 just fine just select the 5600 as the 2125 is not yet listed it's fast www.google.com/glm/

I have never tried using voice dial before. If I have some time I will give a try and advise. I imagine someone will beat me to it. If I had to guess I would think it would work.

I am searching for a better keylock. I have not tried yet the one suggested earlier in this thread. I only want one key to light up the screen to prompt for the asterik. I don't like the fact that with the current keylock any key will light up the display even though it is locked. That can't be good for battery life.

Main reason I ask is because this is a bug in the smt-5600 so I am hoping its fixed..

Posted by: Jakaroe808

I think I found a bug.. or I am just missing something. I keep my photos in Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures\Photos. This is also where I shoot to from the camera. I also have a file My Pictures\Contacts.
OK now, If I open Pictures & Videos from my Start Menu It defaults to the Phones memory. OK, no problem I'll just hit Menu>Folders>Storage Card.
This is the problem. It dumps me into Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures\Contacts, and I cant find a way to get out of "Contacts" and into the "Photos" file, or any other file.

Anyone else notice this?

When I try to download the .cab files (which end in .zip) they are corrupt or bad archives.

What am I doing wrong?

I just received my 2125 (HTC Faraday) and has to say so far I am impressed. Much better designed and built than SMT5600 (HTC Typhoon). Same price.
Great. Now let's get to work. I was planning to use this phone on the great AT&T network that CING did not manage to distroy yet (like in this old joke: how many MNCs does it take to take advanatage of CING's network???).
I manage to unlock my 2125 under 15 minutes with minimal resources.
To help others who want to use 2125 on other networks or will travel abroad and just want to be able to plug in the foreign SIM (2125 is quad-band) I compiled a little tutorial... Please note that I am neither the author nor distributor of this easily available software...

Step 1. Removing application lock
a) Install the WinMo Registry Editor: You can get one from here:
http://www.spv-developers.com/forum...90&d=1131200157

Using the editor change these two values in phone registry, both at
HKey_Local_ Machine\Security\Policies\Policies\

Change 00001001 from current value to 1
Change 00001005 from current value to 40

Reboot the phone.

Great! I may need to get into the registry if I can't find any other way to get the Start menu to display in a list rather than the new icon grid. Wow, I don't have the phone yet and I already have a hack planned!

Posted by: shamrock

can a few more of the early owners of the 2125 comment on the speakerphone quality?.....loud enough without echo, easy enough to activate without several button presses etc?....

Posted by: TradeViceroy

Looks like I'll be the proud owner of a 2125 Monday. I'm happy that someone finally figured out a free way to unlock it.

Posted by: Omega2008

The speakerphone is very loud. But if your in a noisy area it maybe still hard to hear but its loud without distortion. It only requires hitting the menu key and enabling speakerphone or pressing and holding the call button.

Viceroy not that I do not like to take undue credit yet this free solution has been available long before 2125 and C600 released. Simply the tool used for previous version of smartphones works on Faraday... There are some poele who prefer to remain anonymous out There that made this possible...

By the way, who do I have to ask to make this unlocking post a sticky, I bet a lot of people will be looking for that info very soon...

Yes, I remember this being posted on another forum, but some users were posting that it wasn't working on the C600 version. However, since I'm seeing positive feedback here I pulled the trigger on the phone. =)

Thanks!

You the third person including me that notice that, so either they have a major QA issue or it's supposed to be like that.

Don't you love that Omega? I used to spend hours with WinHex on my Siemens S56 and now all you just have to do is to fire up regedit and turn the system inside out I do not think it so easy on any other mobile platform...

I got a link to 8125 solution at xda-developers.com but will only post after verifying that it works...

That's because we only use a part of spv solution here. App unlock is done via regedit hack.....
BTW. You phone is app-unlocked now, too ))

Off topic, I know, but I actually risked my SMT5600 trying this thing and it worked too. The first registry key already was set correctly and the second key couldn't be changed, but still the cert.cab installed successfully and the phone unlocked, despite the disclaimer info of not trying it on an Audiovox phone, which I ignored. If you guys want to try it on the SMT5600, do so the way I did it---at your own risk!

Yes hex editing sucks....

The same is true with the 2125, while I couln't change the second key. the cert.cab file installed perfectly. I don't think the 2125 is app locked. But I haven't installed enough programs to full determine that yet.

Posted by: iJITSU

OK. So how do I change the background when in the Apps Icon menu? I want the Cingular logo background gone. I can change the home screen easily enough, but not the Apps screen.

Posted by: haargerman

Has anyone seen these in their local cingular stores yet? Im waiting to play with the demo when it comes here.

I like it's size, and everything, but to be honest, I dont think I would use the internet or anything, just because I dont want to pay for it...would it still be worth it? Is it hard to add in schedules and things?

Posted by: LS1GOAT

Any games come on it? Or has anyone tried installing any yet? How do they play?

Posted by: rkdiddy

I asked before but no answer...

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck determining if the screen can be set to landscape?

Thanks!

I think it would be worth it. It will sync anything you have in Outlook over in a snap (thus excellent contacts and calendar), music and excellent video playback, games, ebook reading, audio book listening, picture/video taking, beautiful screen, loud speakerphone...

To me, worth it even if there were no internet

Posted by: abendx

media player will go to landscape when you play full screen..... not sure about anything else.

I don't believe it can.

Posted by: LS1GOAT

One other question. I need to switch my contract over to GSM from TDMA. Can I upgrade my plan at a store and get the phones for my family (plus a 5600 for myself) until I call up telesales and order the 2125? Can I then return the 5600 to the store?

No. WinMobile 2005 doesn't support landscape mode in a smartphone configuration.

You guys are making me jealous. All of you have the damn thing and I have yet to put a finger on one.

Mine's on order....back-order!!!

GPS,

I do not know, was it? I did total recall twice on the phone but I ma not sure if this part of memory that contain lock-unlock info is affected by that procedure... All I know is that supposedly the difference between locked and unlocked is a single bit )
By the way if the phone is on back order on day 6 than this is probably one of the most succesfull unadvertised sales campaigns in history ))
HOFO rulez....

Whoa, that's bad!

On the other hand, I hope the reason for the phone being on back-order is because Cingular decided to ship some of them to their stores in Puerto Rico. I want to get mine!!!

Oh... cinguliano.. BTW... I'm back home with 4 bottles of DonQ and a 2125. .

I got mine setup yesterday and I am pretty impressed. I setup an exchange server (SBS) at work last week only because I knew I was getting this phone. After messing with the server for 2 hours last night I finally got syncing and AUTD working. Can't wait for direct push.

I have been using flip phones (v600, v3) for the last couple of years so I have some adjusting to do, but it's worth it for the feature set.

The only thing I wish it did was sync the notes in exchange. That would of been the most logical choice for me to store customer information (im a comp consultant/tech).

You will need a registry editor for that. I believe you will find the key in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai

The key for that is :MSStart

You will need to enter the directory to the background image in the String: BKBitmapFile

Put the directory to the image file in the Value Data field.

I may be wrong(probably am) but we may be waiting on the update for the phone to do push from Microsoft. They are being sued(filed on Thursday) like Blackberry.

Posted by: Omega2008

Ok, so for all you people who want to do some registry editing stay tuned. I am going to go thru the registry and find keys that change certian things, or enable certian things. I will posting them in my blog on MGN. If any of you guys would like to contribute to this list of registry edits, please PM with the reg edit you found and I will post it on my blog and of course give credit where credit is due.

I don't think you can, or will ever be able, to remote sync Notes, only because the note files can be "huge" and it would be like accepting remote sync of all attachmetns; you're phone would choke in a heart beat.

I have noticed that when you perform edits on certian values and keys, that when you restart the phone it will undo the changes you have made. I will try to figure out how to change that. I am guess the key is protected. Rapidconfig may have to be used.

Are you waiting a little while before the reset or doing it immediately after changing the key?
