I got the older version (1.2) and it works on 2125 like a charm.

$99.... You have to give it to M$. They know how to make money.
Yea I know it's a Microsoft cash grab I have 10 licences for it for free along with most of the other MS products(MS Partner). The only thing you may be missing is that it interactively works with Office. If you use Office the back and fourth connection and sharing can be useful. You really have to try it and then blast away if you want.

I am a "LAMP" stack believer so you can imagine my opinion of MS.

The Action Pack Subscription is certainly not free...but at 300 bones a year for pretty much everything but their development tools... it certainly is a steal!

since i'm waiting for 2125 to arrive, thought i'd practice unlocking on my cingular blue 5600.

results:

no luck this way...

Step 1. Removing application lock
a) Install the WinMo Registry Editor

Using the editor change these two values in phone registry, both at
HKey_Local_ Machine\Security\Policies\Policies\

Change 00001001 from current value to 1
Change 00001005 from current value to 40

Reboot the phone.

3) Removing SIM lock from your phone.
Obtain a copy of SPV-Services tool

Unzip all of the contents of the ZIP file into a folder on your PC.
Move cert.cab from that folder to your phone and RUN it.
Run SPVServices.exe on your PC (your Smartphone has to be connected),
chose SIM lock option on the left, type AGREE into a box....

....well....after several varied attempts...i gave up and went a different way and...

THIS worked...

so... when i go to unlock 2125, what is the better/safer process prior to using
the SPV-Services tool? direct registry edit or running AEConfig.exe & DisableSecurity.xml?

MS Visual web Developer is now free as well as SQL server(a limited version). There are now several developer tools free for the taking.
Beware most of them are 6-700MB's.

Posted by: abendx

free where? pm me a link if you will. but you know... i get all of the SQL versions with my action pack. not sure why you don't??

anyhow.... i was at fry's electronics this afternoon.... and picked up a sandisk 1GB minisd card for 50 bucks after rebate (20 mail in).... so if you live near a fry's, go get one by the 20th

No fry's and I could use an extra sd so I hate you, but I'm checking on line now.

Let me look for the MS link, but you can Google for it, it's on MS's site. No preasure but I think it expires end of December.

I do have SQL Server, but the SQL Server that comes with the Visual developer makes your PC a Network Server to create Apps on a local drive. You will be able to run Java and PHP scripts locally without doing anything. When your done you can Publish them to a Host or Export to Java Studio Developer 8($1800.00 also now free if you can put up with that Java music as it takes an hour to d/l). With the Java app you can put a J2ME wrapper on it to install on a phone.

Since this phone comes WITH a SIM will the SIM in my old phone RAZR work also??? How does THAT work ???

Posted by: sharksfan

Anyone found a way to enable manual network select like on the MPx220? There is a thread in the Cingular forum about 3G SIMs allowing it... my new 3G SIM doesn't...

Posted by: kiztope

So, I don't know if this has been asked before, in this thread... but my SMT5600 has been doing some strange things, and I was considering XBM'ing it.
Does anyone know if XBM is still replacing the 5600 with a refurb 5600, or are they sending out the 2125?

Posted by: lopezpm

You'll probably get a 220 unless they have a couple of 5600's lying around.
How can I set the calendar default view? I can't figure it out. I hate the day view and I want the month view.

Hey, this is my first post here, however, I read these forums often. This question has probably been answered at least once in this 88 page thread, but i've only read about 35 of the 88 pages.
But anyways, I purchased a 5600 November 27, and now Im very interested in switching to this phone. What is Cingulars policy regarding upgrades and returns?

Thank you.

I just purchase my 2125 and I have 30 days from the date of the order not the day shipped or received. You are real close. I would call customer service or go to the store you got it at and find out.

JUan

Posted by: JMBrown

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have till Christmas Day to take it back if I choose to do so. However, I am fairly certain most of the HoFo users know more regarding the return policy than the avg. cingular sales rep, or at least the ones where i live.

Posted by: tonyxcom

I was able to get the list view to stay. after multiple reboots.

actually, what I was really doing was reordering the items so that the stuff I use is on the first page of "start".

Well after chagning it, and rebooting, it would be in the really weird order, so I would set it to list view, reboot, stuff would be in the order I wanted. Then set it back to grid and reboot and it was then fine.

Also, I never waited after changing the reg, in fact, I would shut it down with the reg editor open. I am using the reg editor listed earlier in this thread, the SPV one I think.

---
So "smartphonenotes" will actually sync my outlook notes with exchange active sync? And then can I edit them or create new ones on the phone?

Posted by: tonyxcom

http://www.syncdata.it/sphnotes.html

this looks awesome. I'll buy it when I get home.

Posted by: tonyxcom

well, it works great for outlook on your computer, but it doesn't work for exchange activesync.

However, I have an RPC connection to my exchange server at work that it works with, so that will have to do for now.

Anyone gotten the Google Local Midlet to work all the way? I get maps to load, but when I do a search it just times out.

Posted by: soaringMoe

I have no idea how Cingular stays in business... I was on the phone earlier with them trying to find out what happened to my order. After a long period of her checking the computer, talking to other folks, she assured me my order will ship on Monday and be at my door steps on Tuesday. As we were talking, the package was delivered!!!

In any case, I love the phone. I have been playing with it all day and everything works great. One thing I haven't been able to figure out how to do is to tether the phone to my laptop using bluetooth and get online. I did lots of searching and tried everything I could find without much luck. Jakaroe808 posted (#1208 in this thread) that he got it to work. Can anyone post more information on how to do this?

BTW, I am using a Mac, but if you give me instructions for a PC, I am sure I can figure out the Mac specific steps.

I have OneNote and its a one way sync (At least with my PPC2k3 PDA). You can pull in notes from the mobile device but OneNote will not send any to it.

I use a product called CodeWallet from DeveloperOne that stores this kind of stuff in an encrypted database.

Without encryption, if you loose your phone you (and in this case, some of your customers) are going to be in for a rude surprise.

I have a hard time turning on and off the phone using the power button on the hump. It takes me more that 5 times before it turns on and off, sometimes even when I press hard nothing happens.

Are you experiencing the same thing on your 2125?

Thanks!

Come on - You people who have em... let's see what some more of the screens look like... or even just photos of the phone with different applications running...

I ordered mine Thursday but they didn't mail me a tracking number or anything... have NO CLUE when it will arrive... some screenshots might help.....

I ordered on Friday, I'm migrating from blue. I think yours and mine may be back ordered.

Try pressing the button downward (towards the screen) rather than inwards. Someone posted this was the trick to the power button.

Posted by: azek01

Omega,
For Google Local...which media package are you using from Cingular? It just seems very odd. I load the map fine. I put in a search, after a minute or so it will give me a warning that it needs to do a download and says to check my reception and service for capability & then seems to get stuck in search mode without ever getting anywhere. It also loses it's ability to zoom in and out of the map (stops loading new images) and can't pull any internet data.

It's not the easiest but like someone else mentioned I don't turn it off that often and you can't accidently turn it off. But anyway, I use my right index figer and I press it down with my nail, cause I can't fit my finger. Again it's not the easiest but maybe that's a good thing.

Ok so Im looking to get the 2125 through my Premier acct through work, AND I want that $100 rebate.

I'm worried that buying through Premier I WON'T get the rebate. Here is what's scaring me.

1. on the Premier website, in the phone selections, the rebate link is NOT there, yet it is on the Joe Public Cingular website.

2. on the rebate form, (i downloaded one) it says that "you must activate a voice plan $39.99 or higher".

The voice plan i want IS the $39.99 dollar plan, but when purchased through Premier, and getting the discount, $33.99 would show on the receipt, and that is NOT $39.99 or higher. I could see the rebate folks looking at that and throwing it out the window.

Any suggestions? thanks!

can anyone else expand on the ability to operate the 2125 with only one hand?......someone mentioned that text messaging is a challenge with one hand due to the low placement of the keys, leaving you with little to hold onto while texting.....

any other user opinions of the phone outside of the "synching with outlook" problems?......

if someone could please expand on the phone aspect of the 2125....ease of one handed dialing from contacts, activating speakerphone and disengaging speakerphone during a conversation, and anything else worth mentioning as far as the phone features are concerned......are the contact listings too small to see?.....someone said the font is completely tiny and you cannot hardly make anything out on the display because of it.....

You can password protect notes with SmartphoneNotes. Dont know how secure it really is though. But I literally have my own exchange server so I'll be able to do the remote wipe from anywhere there is a computer with internet access.

The thing I really like about SmartphoneNotes is that it uses the notes from Outlook, so I have an easy way of inputing large amounts of data.

Posted by: abendx

one handed operation....

- keys are in fact "too low" ... but you can dial one handed.
- keys are placed too close together ... but you can still dial one handed.
- this will all be solved if in fact microsoft ever makes voice command compatible with the smartphone.

other impressions....

- rf is GREAT.
- screen is beautiful (if you have good eyes, i highly recommend small fonts).
- lack of wm5 software (but this will change over time)
- internal memory is not sufficent (large minisd is a must)
- bluetooth implementation with activesync leaves much to be desired (but this has always been terrible imo).

i am still waiting for the 8125..... get it... and decide which to keep.

Save yourself the trouble and call Orange NBO at 1-800-999-5445. Make sure you have your FAN on hand as they will ask. I got the phone for $169. I ordered the phone friday evening, and had it before noon on saturday (ask for expedited shipping)... only catch is that I had to signup for unlimited media net for $19.99. Which it's my understanding it can be removed at any time...

I migrated from blue so I am not sure if that had anything to do with my pricing.

I ran across this review Googling to see if Agile Messenger works with the Cingular 2125:

http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4691.html

Can anyone confirm if Agile does work? It's my most used program on my SMT5600. Text messaging thru AIM is what it's all about!

Posted by: 330Cane

I have had mine for a few days now and I love it, but two things I wanted to check on here....

1. I was using my BT headset the other day when talking to my brother and the headset disconnected from the phone twice. Anybody else having BT headset issues?

2. When using the phone to surf the net, I have tried to save a few sites to my favorites. No problem doing it, but if I end my session and try to get back to them, the favorites I saved disappear. Thoughts?

My phone arrived within hours of CS telling me that it hadn't shipped yet and it took 3-5 days to process orders...

Posted by: JMBrown

I really want to get this phone, however, my 30 day return period on my SMT 5600 is quickly ending, and I called 9 Cingulars this morning within 30 miles of me, and of the 9, only 1 of them had ever even heard of the phone, but didn't expect to have it till after new year. Also, none of them were really knowledgable as to the return policy other than to say that I had 30 days to return the phone and my money would be refunded. None of them knew if I could just pay the diference on a new phone or receive any kind of store credit. Does anyone on here know what my options are at this point?

Posted by: sharksfan

Cancel your current line before your 30 days is up and sign up again online or something. Haven't you heard? Cingular loves phantom churn...

Agile works on the 2125... sort of! Actually it works fine but only uses about 2/3 of the screen. There is obviously a resolution issue that I'm sure will not be an issue for long. Agile will figure it out our somebody will find a registry modification.

I tried both smartphone installations that Agile has plus the pocket PC. The smartphones ones seem to both work about the same and the pocket pc one wouldn't install.

HaHaHa I guess two can play at the same game contract/rules wise. With Cingular, Verizon, and porting I have always wondered why customers don't take advantage of being a new customer all the time. Kind of like getting to be a Virgin over and over again.

Posted by: JMBrown

lol well I didnt buy my 5600 with a new plan. I have been on this plan with cingular for a while, and it's a family plan so cancelling isnt really an option. I really dont care about paying the non-contract price for the phone, I just want to be able to return the SMT 5600 and get the 2125.

Posted by: Biker2679

This is what I did since I was in the same boat as you. It was actually suggested by the manager of my local store after he admitted to me that the 2125 was going to be special order and there was a slim chance he could get one to me before my 30 days were up this Saturday. Call 611/CS/telesales whatever and tell them what you want to do. They will set you up with a 2125 and ship it out. If you dont want to be without a phone, you should probably pay extra and get the quicker shipping. Once the 2125 comes in, take the 5600 back to the store and return it, BUT make sure that if the 2125 doesnt arrive before your 30 days are up, you return the 5600 before time expires. If the 2125 arrives in time, the store should even transfer your data over. This method was suggested by my local manager and the CS rep said it will work fine, so you should be good to go. Mine should be on my doorstep tomorrow.

Please don't even remember it was me that said this, but if you look back in this thread someone did get a 2125 replacement. As supply runs low your chances may go up. So get your poker face on and play.

You ordered it 12/16 and got it 12/17?

I ordered mine Friday and I can't even get order status to work.

I got my 2125 yesterday morning, and i love most everything about the phone. When I first started using the phone the joystick was one of the things I loved. But now after almost using the phone for almost two days i hate the joystick. Using the joystick causes tons of problems for me especially when browsing the web. When moving it right or left it always causes problems. I would like to know what you guys think of it? Do you hate it? Love it? Thanks.

ActiveSync issue? I'm having a terrible time trying to get my 2125 connect to my home pc. It works with my work laptop, but the home pc doesn't. When I connect the USB cable, ActiveSync comes up and just spins "Connecting"... Has anyone seen this or knows how to fix this?

Must be a software conflict with you "home PC" if it works on your laptop

BE CAREFUL!!! You can only completely sync with one device. Sometimes it even screws it up enough to stop syncing all together and it may even require a hard reset. Maybe it is changed in 4.1 but I had a terrible time with it when I synced my ppc on my client machine and then on my laptop. Now I only sync with my laptop and pass through on other puters.

With activesync 4.1 you can select which items to be sync on which machine. I synched with my home PC using Bluetooth the first day (cause the USB won't work), and the work laptop the next day (with USB). Today I can't get the bluetooth or the usb to work on the home pc. I'm tried uninstall, reboot, new install, reboot, and sync... windows find the new mobile device on usb, it appears under my computer in the windows explorer, and I can ping the device, but activesync just spins on 'connecting..'

I've had no problems with one hand operation, text messenging, etc. I originally had an issue with syncing, but upgraded to Outlook 2002 (on CD) and have no issues since. One handed dialing from contacts, activating speakerphone, all is fine to me. Most fonts (contacts, calendar, etc) are fine IMO, but they are small in IE. Fine for me, but maybe too small for those will weaker eyesight.

I have an 8310 also, and I prefer the keypad, joystick, and other buttons on the 2125. The 2125 has impressed me so far.

I too would like the info on using it with a Mac.

I guess I'll try and order me one on monday. I'm guessing the local (Kenner/NO area) stores won't carry it and I told my wife it's what I wanted for Christmas

now that would not be a smart move.... first of all you'd lose the ability to put in extra memory... a MUST in my opinion. second, you could run into all kinds of issues.... is the 2125's slot SDIO? will drivers work with wm5 sp edition? etc. ???

if i were you, i'd buy the sp5 that has wifi built in for about the same price as a 2125 and the wifi card you are looking at. this would not only buy you true integration, but also the ability to use memory.

Have anybody tried the Xpress Mail on the 2125?

It says invalid URL when I click the install button. Can somebody please try and post their findings?

Thanks,

I saw a page somewhere where a guy actually tried to put minisd wifi in a c500. Even though the card is "minisd" it's actually too long and the guy had to cut away some of the area in the pattery compartment. Once he managed to force tyhe card in there, it turns out there is no driver support. If I come across that page again, I'll post it.

Aristotle,

Here is the link

OK, I've just skimmed the last 20 pages and didn't see anything so can someone answer exactly which programs come on the 2125?

Cingular's website just says "Mobile versions of Microsoft Office programs" are included which is pretty damn ambiguous.

TIA.

Pocket Outlook comes on the phone.
Clear Vue Suite (Word, Excel, PDF, PPT) comes on the cd.
Clear Vue are just readers though, you can't edit.

SKYPE for smatphones can be d/l here:

http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-smartphone
There was an update last night on most of them even the PC one. It looks like they all will now run on EDGE and even dialup or 3G . It looks like they are using the AIX protocol(new codec + it also compresses the packet header info that 711 uses). At full steam it can handle 103 calls over 1Mb WiFi!

There are 2 version for mobile WM5 one is modified for slower processors(-300mh).

Some are reporting not so good call quality with the WiFi version of the 2125 because of the processor. I would like to see what happens when using a better(faster processor) phone with EDGE and HSDPA.

And of course there may be free SMS, voice message, and picture/video on a smartphone.

The firmware may be up to it, but the card itself has an antenna that needs to be exposed so I don't think WiFi is happening here on this modified phone.

Well, after you post I did some digging and it seems that some irresponsible elements have tried to run Skype PPC 1.2 on Imate SP5.... succesfully...
I'll try it on 2125 as soon as I get my SD card.... That would be frigging fantastic....

No way

- EDGE what tooks minutes to load now takes Seconds
- Ringer / Volume is loader
- Screen is awesome(I can show friends my smugmug.com photos very sharp)
- No problem with any "Regular" webpage even my Live local weather radar now can animate or loop. Would not loop on the 5600.even Google Maps/local works.
- my ebay account .paypal email outlook
- WM5
- I have had the phone since Thursday and only charged it once when I received it then and it still show half the bars.
- I don't like these type of cases I orderd a Krussel case that protects the phone all the time
- Just need to keep my thumbnail a little longer to push the buttons

I'm also getting the 8125 when it comes out and may keep both or just the 8125 I need a keyboard for emails

Hey be careful, people will be listening, those are new as of last night and it's confusing, but you need to try the "optimized for slower processors with the 2125.

This ought to be interesting as in now not only runs on WiFi, but HSDPA and EDGE. There will be posters using the wrong combination and reporting bad results. If you use your phone to brows you can d/l the app directly like gmaps.

2125 owners,

Can you please confirm that the "Get Xpress Mail" download link from 2125 is unavailable. It says check the URL again. I also tried Internet Explorer but got the same result. The install link from the 2125 is:

http://cdl0.7sys.net/cingular/produ...iversal/generic

I already called Cingular Wireless Data department this morning, one rep insisted to use the Audiovox 5600 download file. I tried it but only my inbox is showing (no calendar and contacts). I called again and I got another rep that knows more about Windows Mobile 5 devices and he thinks that the install link from 2125 is valid but it's not currently available for download. He's not sure what the problem is and he said he will do more research and email me.

Thanks, but evidently that number is Cingular Blue, they said they were the former AT&T, and after a 27 min hold time they couldn't do a damn thing for me.

I'l try again Tuesday with the number they gave me.

I could never understand where did the limitation (wifi only) come from. II is IP and bandwidth is bandwith, no matter if it comes from wifi or edge...
As fas as I understand skype runs on low bandwith so EDGE shoudl be enough if it is able to SUSTAIN the advertised speeds, multimedia, voice and video, requires a steady stream due to obviuos timing concerns. Html does not.
Hopefully, skype will release a native smartphone version soon given that wi-fi is now available on Toronados.... I was told that the work is underway.
By the way, I wonder if SKYPE was the reason 2125 was stripped of wi-fi???

Little gizmo I came across. It's a WinMo registry editor that runs on your PC, hence it is much easier to navigate, not to mention its time-saving copy/paste capability....

Will this phone be in stores anytime soon? I got a W600 about 20 days ago and don't like it as much as I thought I would, and since the 6682 shows no sign of return, I want to take a look at this phone before the 30 day exchange period is over.

Also, has anyone posted any pictures from the camera?

Posted by: brices21

Not sure if anyone has already posted, but it looks like Cingular has finally posted the 2125's support docs including Tutorial and Spec sheet including tethering info .

The main support page is here if the previous links aren't working...

From the reps I've talked to, it will start showing up in stores at the end of this week, but it might not be until the end of the year. Most stores didn't even get the pricing sheet until late last week.

I still haven't decided if I want to keep the 2125 or not. As a phone, it's really great. But it's pretty obvious that I'll still need to carry a PDA of some type. And as just a phone, it's awful expensive. Especially considering that you need an unlimited data plan to get the $100 rebate.

The real problem is, I don't see a full PDA phone that I like. What I don't understand is how the Bluetooth in the 2125 can work perfectly with my car but HTC screwed it up on the PPC-6700 and from what I'm hearing on the soon to be released 8125. That would be the ideal device for me except for the BT.

Bandwidth is not bandwidth... With WIFI Cingular is not able to charge per Mb or for a data plan.

IMO the 2125 was stripped of WIFI for 2 reasons.... Cost, and not being able to charge people for it, which comes right back to cost...

Remember Cingular is branding this phone themselves, there is no Audiovox to deal with anymore so they have all kinds of leverage with HTC. I am hoping this means ROM updates...

This sounds logical. Judging by how long it took for the SE W600 to appear in stores, I think I may be getting my 2125 on December 28. However, I'll stop by my nearest corp store this Wednesday just in case, as they receive phones on Tuesday afternoons.

For those of you having problems with Activesync, this might help: I was having similar problems with a PDA (Dell Axim x50v) using Activesync 3.8. With the standard docking cradle I could just plug in my PDA, Activesync would fire up, connect, sync, then I could turn the PDA off and it would charge. HOWEVER, when I switched to a USB sync/charge cable (which is what you are likely using with the 2125) I started having the same issue that is reported on this forum - Activesync just spins on 'connecting'.

For me, the solution was to manually disconnect my Activesync session (by clicking the disconnect button) on my PDA, prior to charging. By doing this, subsequent sessions seemed to be able to connect properly. Give it a try.

Which makes me wonder why Cingular didn't have the business awareness to jump on wifi. They could have been everywhere. But they let TMobile and Sprint get all the airports and other good spots. Now Cingular is stuck nit picking their customers to death over usage.

I think it's a simple phrase that's used as a convenience for the company(Skype). Explaining all the technical issues to the masses has got to be expensive. It also can be abused by companies with something they would rather you not know about(carriers). The other poster has made "THE" point in reguards to unbillable services(as carriers look at it but they are wrong).
Quote:

Skype as I understand the way it works is the least of the Carriers concerns. We are going to see many players soon there is just too much to be made or lost. Google, Yahoo, Microsoft all are after a piece of the pie. IMO they have more to offer certainally their vision isn't as small as a Telco.

At this very moment Congress is addressing packet prioritizing. The Telcos would want, IMO, to alter the very nature of the internet to protect their endeavors. It's kind of funny that Cingular would send their attorney to make their case and have to face the likes of Vint Cerf.

What do you expect a google evangelist is going to say?

And right now, the baby bells are winning the Congressional lobbying war. Today there is a discussion on slashdot about this (Michael Geist is a law professor in Canada). Susan Crawford is a law professor in the US.

http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/05/12/1...l?tid=95&tid=17

http://scrawford.blogware.com/blog/...30/1331319.html

With legislations being drawn up to tax VoIP, E911 and ISP lobbying for tiered internet access --- VoIP is going nowhere in the US. For the rest of the world, you've got whole countries blocking Vonage or Skype traffic.

BTW, Verizon is buying MCI. Whatever business model the MCI comes up with VoIP --- it will also work for BellSouth/SBC/Cingular as well.

Can anyone comment on how in-store prices compare with online prices for this phone?

I just moved to the US from Canada (so I have no US credit history). A local Cing rep said he knows how to run a Canadian credit check so that I don't have to pay a deposit - he's getting the 2125 this week. Just wondering if it will be more expensive in store than on the Cingular web site.

My mom went through the upgrade process today to get a 2125 for $299 and it is on the way.

But apparently they told her she would have to bring it to them to get the new SIM card activated in order to use some features of the phone. Is this true?

Am I gonna have a problem using this phone for my number since she did the upgrade on her number? I was under the impression that I could just pop in my SIM and be good to go. Is this not the case?

I'm confused.

I did have some time to throw together a little better (IMHO) homescreen though...

Just download the attached, take the .txt off the end of it, and copy it into the \Application Data\Home folder. Then just switch to "Brice Screen" in the home screen settings...

I was told today that I could use my existing SIM, or the one that came with my 2125. I did notice a little different wiring pattern on the new SIM and the phrase "3G" on the new one along with the "64K SmartChip" text which was also on my old one as well. So I told the rep to activate the new one. I don't know that there is any difference, but maybe someone can clue us in with some more details?

Guess what, settings, sounds, keyboard control. The same place it's been on 56000.... Generally almost everything is in the same spot as in 5600....

Because they're a cellular network provider, not a hotspot operator. Their plan is to make WiFi obsolete by giving you unlimited high speed data service (UMTS) everywhere.

Frankly, I like their plan. I think the whole hotspot thing is a royal pain. Everytime I've needed to travel I've had to research where the hotspots would be, and which ones I'd be able to use. Broardband cellular data will make all of that foolishness disappear for most people.

I'd be annoyed if they had wasted the money/weight/power to put WiFi in this phone. EDGE works just fine, and I can use all I want for $20/mo. If I want to talk on the phone, I'll just press s[p]end.

I agree with your statement, however it would be nice to have wi-fi if your place of work or your university has wi-fi coverage. I know I would greatly benifit from a wi-fi enabled device since my University is blanketed in wi-fi.

I have successfully unlocked my 2125 to use with my AT&T sim card, but I can't seem to manually select a network. I go to "Network" under the Phone settings, click on "Find a New Network", and it just sits there and searches. :/

Anyone have a way to fix this?

ClearVue and email attachments.

Is anyone else having problems using ClearVue and opening email attachments?

The software installs without any problems and I can even launch it and open documents from inside each application. When I try and open an attachment or even any other file from inside WM5 I get an error from ClearVue Document saying it can't handle that type of file.

It's definitely a problem with WM5 because I have tried manually associating the applications to the appropriate files and the settings don't seem to 'stick.' Even the document icons don't change when I re-associate specific documents. To be more precise they will stick for only two of the 4 ClearVue programs. IE- I can open a .doc but not .pdf (ClearVue tries to open it).

I also tried downloading the demo version from Westtek but those applications won't run at all (the seem to install correctly). I'm guessing some WM5 incompatibility.

It's a really weird error - I was just curious if anybody else is having any similar problems.

Thanks,
-T

One more q... Does anyone know what happened to the Picture ID app that worked in conjuction with the Contacts? I know there is a way to put a picture in contacts now, but there is no way that I can see how to spice it up as with the picture id app in the 5600. Also, when I get a call there is no pic animation as with the 5600. I saw a review of the Orange version (I forget where) and it had pics show a call animation but it was slightly different and better than the 5600. I'd like to get mine to that but I cannot find it on my 2125.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Where are you going to set the associations?

I'm going into the File Manager to a folder where I put a sample PDF, XLS, DOC, and PDF in a test folder. I then choose Menu -> File -> Associate and choose the appropriate ClearVue application.

Is there a better way to do this? I have yet to mess around with the registry..

Thanks,
-T

edit:
I'm going to try a hard reset and start from scratch...see if that helps.

I really like SmartSS but I just wanted to warn anyone out there incase I'm not the only dummy here. Don't have SmartSS running and then lock your phone. You can't unlock it then and you have to pull the battery.

Posted by: Omega2008

Nevermind, I figured it out. After going to File Manager to Application Data\Volitle and associating the file with one of the clear vue programs, then killing all processes in task manager it works fine.

Posted by: Omega2008

hahaha, I have done that! I am waiting for a better key lock program to come out, one that autolocks after a set interval.

You should not need to to that. ATT SIM is supposed to that i.e. find ATT coverage for you.

Did you test it out? IE- Complete those associations in volatile memory and then try to open a pdf, then a doc right after? It seems like whatever ClearVue application is open, tries to open the next file regardless of associations.

Posted by: Omega2008

I got all file associations with the method I described above, I did have to power cycle the phone but then when I went back to the email message after the power cycle, each attachment had the correct clear vue suit icon beside it and opened with the correct clear vue app.

Yes I have. On 5600. Huge piece of junk (unoptimized code). Had over 1MB just for text, no voice (

I am going to try PPC voice later on today )

Well sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Not sure what it is. I think its a bug in the Clear Vue suite. Hopefully they will release a never version of it that will fix that problem.

Have you guys tried the Tweak2k2 program? It looks pretty cool. I just tried it and sped up the menus and got the grid to change to list. There is a lot of options to chose from.

Just received mine today in exchange for the 5600. A couple of observations and a few questions.

Observations:

I dont know how I feel about the joystick compared to the toggle bar on the 5600. I find it hard to move left and right, but especially left. Perhaps this will take some getting used to or break in period.

The screen is nice. Its a bigger upgrade than I thought. I wasnt expecting to care about increased resolution, but it makes a difference.

Reception is excellent. Even in spots where I normally dont get any service, this thing gets at least a bar.

Questions:

Is there a speed test for EDGE? For some reason, this phone is SLOWER than the 5600 doing transfers, and that just shouldn't be. I dont know its my area or something else, but even my 5600 moved quicker then this. I am showing the E at the top, and when connecting, the E in the upper right, but it is still dog slow. Any thoughts?

Is it correct that you cannot connect to the internet on the phone when connected to ActiveSync? If I am connected to ActiveSnyc, either via BT, IR or USB, I cannot pull up a webpage in IE on the phone. Do I need to open any Com ports on either the phone or the laptop? I dont remember this being the case on the 5600...

Anyone set this up for tethered operation via Bluetooth yet? I think I have mine setup OK, but I have been unable to create a "Personal Area Network" using Windows XP on my T40. While I can connect via tethering, its dog slow, but I think that is more related to EDGE than anything else.

TIA!

It doesn't work well with the bigger resolution that the 2125 has but it works.

From inside IE:
Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Connections and check the box to automatically detect connections
**Warning** For some reason this setting messes with your MEdianet bookmark and you will need to unselect it to get MEdianet to work again.

I heard CV has a bug which causes it to malfunction when installed to Storage Card. I bet we will soon be offered a new and improved version of that soft. For a nominal fee, of course.

Unlike the Cingular SIM cards, the AT&T cards allow manual network selection. In my area, AT&T's network is primarily 1900mhz while Cingular's is entirely 850mhz. I always force my phone to stay on the Cingular network because it is stronger and the coverage is better.

That's why I need network selection. It seems Cingular has this turned off by default regardless if the SIM allows it or not.

Does anyone know how to enable manual network selection? Thanks in advance.

NO NO NO. When connected to your PC WM5 will try utilizing your PC's internet connection with all the implications (no access to Media Net. mMode etc). Will also try to use your VPN if connected........

I am getting 81kb/sec at 200K and 80 kb/sec at 600K, thats pretty fast to me.

Here you go:

REGEDIT.
HKCU -> CONTROL PANEL -> PHONENETSELMODE -> OPTION -> 1

I did have some time to throw together a little better (IMHO) homescreen though...

Just download the attached, take the .txt off the end of it, and copy it into the \Application Data\Home folder. Then just switch to "Brice Screen" in the home screen settings...

Awesome! Thanks!

I have mine installed on the phones Memory, not the storage card. But in either case a new version with a fix will be nice

I performed this registry edit, however after performing it and restarting the phone and checking to see if the value is still at 1 I still can't get manual network selection by going to Start, Settings, Phone, Networks, Menu, Find a New Network....unless there is another way about doing this, this key doen't do anything, at least for me it doesn't.

I agree that's what is supposed to happen but (for me) this does not work. I constantly get a 'This page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost' error even after I kill and restart IE. Only way I could get it to work was having it auto-detect my settings.

Am I missing some internal setting somewhere that I'm not aware of?
