The HTC/Cingular 2125 Smartphone thread (please read before starting add. threads)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mm1999

This is the first time that I ordered a phone over Cingular's 800 number. But I have a question...I called on the 12/22 to get the 2125 phone and the person said it was in stock. Come 12/23 the phone is back-ordered. So I called into Cingular's sales department and they told me that it is back-ordered and that they will be getting a new shipment next Tuesday. Now...for some reason the person mentioned to me that since the phone is back-ordered, I can't cancel it? Is that right? I mean the wait I can live with, but the fact that I can't cancel it even though its back-ordered bothers me a little.

Oh...and she also mentioned that fact that they are getting 600 units in this coming Tuesday for anyone interested in that information...don't know how true it is though.

Don't have it running when you lock your keypad, it takes pics with the star key. So when you go to unlock your phone it will just take pics, then you have to take the battery out.

Lucky one here. I ordered mine over the phone last Monday (19th) and recieved it on Wednesday. The first rep I talked to quoted me 679.99 minus my FAN discount of 40%. I knew from reading this thread that I could do better. I called back latter and got another rep that quoted 107.99 with the FAN discount. I said send it on!!! After she verified all the info, she found out she made a mide a mistake and should have quoted me 269.99 with my FAN. Her manager told her to give to me at the 107.99 price because she had already quoted me that price. I must be living right. I got the phone before Christmas and paid next to nothing for it.
OK, enough bragging. I am new to the WM5 smartphone thing. I've been running a Mac for the last 3-4 years and try to ignore Windows. I used a TREO 650 for a while but its reception and occasional lockups got me looking at the 2125. So for I am verry pleased with the 2125. Great form-factor, much better reception, and an excellent little screen. I can't comment on the stability yet.
Two questions for the experts. I intalled NewsBreak OTA and set it to auto update and show up on my home screen. Excellent program. I am now looking for a small weather program that will do the same. Now the two questions: What is a good WM5 weather program? Will it have a home screen plug-in? I want one that will do both, like NewsBreak.

Posted by: robg69

Just tried ConnectedBits Weather. Good, but some of the fonts are cut off at the bottom across the 7 day page. Need something that works right and perferably free.

This phone is gone from Cingular's website. I read back a few pages and did not see anything. Anyone know why?

Posted by: robg69

Out of stock and too many back ordered from what I last read.

I'm going to take a wild stab int dark here. My money is on HTC being mad at Cingular mucking these(2125 and8125) phones up. Cingular wanting it there way (Orange Kool-Aid) may be keeping them from some of those American Holiday dollars.

I don't get it. HTC made this phone to be sold exclusively with the Cingular brand, just like they've done with other carriers like Orange in Europe. Why would HTC by mad at Cingular for doing what they expected Cingular to do?

I just hope the back orders on the website and telesales translate to the phone being shipped to corporate stores. I read on another forum that some stores in New Jersey already have the 2125 for sale.

poopoo:

- bluetooth to headset (jabra bt110) when xpressmail push is active and a sms comes through has put phone in quicksand mode and everything lags until reset.

- oem clreavue can be file-associated manually everytime you need to re-load it. since i cleared memory a few times already and am impatient, i bought a clean version from westtek so it never needs me to assign every file type to its clearvue program.

- when viewing phone memory via activesync 4.1 view, not all folders are visable such as "volatile". i'm pretty sure i saw this file on 5600 via sync 3.8.

- available program memory never adds up to what i think it should be. it seems to run near capacity with nothing loaded to it but clearvue.

hooray:

+ heard it said phone has no photo contact ability. wrong! it does.

+ media player sync is a nice step towards simplified mp3 clone.

+ edge speed, rf reception and screen resolution.

+ no need for alarm plug in since there is a home screen icon when alarm is active.

+ when phone is locked, a large digital clock shows time. i use my phone as a holstered watch too.

+ improved start menu grid interface.

Hey, it's not about bragging. I am really glad to find people actually taking advanateg of info they found in this thread. You got a better price than I and that's great.
I am really happy to see poeple getting back at CING for $18 renewal charge etc. and all the broken promises they made when mergin wtih ATTWS. From we all get frustrated when dealing with customer care where in fact you can take advanatege of the disorgization and lack of professionalim that is prevalent in this company.
Right on!

PS. I remember seeing a home screen weather plug-in from Weather Fizz .
Google the web and you should find it.

2125 Question:

When the phone is not being used, does it have a "screen saver" that flashes around and shows time / date / SMS Messages Recvd / Email Recvd / Anything else?

thanks!

CFG

PS, how about some photos? Where's the pix!?!?

I've said the phone doesn't have a seperate photo contacts as the 5600 did and it doesn't. The 5600 photo contacts allowed to change the way it looks and a bunch of other things. The 2125 has it built in to the regular contacts which simply allows a photo and that's it.

When the phone is locked the only way that I am aware of the large clock is when you hit the unlock key and that goes away after a few seconds or so. Do you know of another way to make it stay?

Thanks,
Jay

I have mine boxed up to go back to Cingular as I have decided I like my BlackBerry 8700c more. It is a good phone, just my preference. I used it for almost 24 hours and never even open most of the things that came with it. I was waiting for Cingular to mail me the pre-paid return address, but perhaps I can sell it on eBay for a small profit instead.

Posted by: JMBrown

Hmm had I not ordered mine from Cingular already I would have gladly purchased yours.
But I ordered mine a few days ago and its currently listed as backordered, and no it has been removed from the website...should I be worried about this?

Posted by: John-Fox

I do not know about worried, but I might be concerned on how soon it makes its return/backorder(s) filled.

That's funny those prepaid return labels come USPS and with the holiday(Christmas) season will be delayed. The only justice is an eBayed revenge.

There is not a single 2125 on eBay. I am surprised, yet delighted. I think I will throw it on there and see what happens.

There is one now, for those who cannot wait to get their hands on it!

John,

I just searched for it under "cingular 2125" and can't find it.

Maybe it takes a while to be indexed?

Posted by: John-Fox

I believe that is correct. It is item number ********** (I hope that is not a violation of the forums). If so, I apologize.

Actually here is a program that allows you to have a screen saver that runs after it auto locks.
http://maniac.fschreiner.de/en/index_en.htm
Here is a description...
Automatic keylock
Features:
You can select the keylock timeout, configured seperately for applications and homescreen.
You can select to enable automatic keylock only when on homescreen.
You can exclude applications from the automatic keylock. There are 2 modes for that:
Simple mode: Pocket Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, BetaPlayer and HTC camera aplication are excludeable
Advanced mode: You can define your own list of applications by listing the executables.
You can select to disable automatic keylock when in headset or car profile or when charging.
The phone can automatically be unlocked when switching to headset or car profile or when charging begins (but only if it was automatically locked before).
The backlight can be turned always on when in car profile or when charging.
A screen saver activated together with the keylock can be enabled which shows a clock, the date and missed calls and messages. Font sizes and layout of this screen saver are configurable.

How do I install this OTA? I live with a Mac, so I can not ActiveSync this to my phone. I got NewsBreak OTA from their websight but this one does not pull up a .CAB link (or anything else) on PIE. Anybody?

Yes I noticed they don't have the 2125 on the site anymore
I guess back ordered.
I have the 2125 and may list on ebay but waiting to see how the 8125 performs.
I love the phone but would like a keyboard but the phone awesome.
web access is great and more web apps run on it then on the 5600.
I have a sony t637 for sale if anyone is interested comes with sim card and Krusell case and all material

Posted by: spider2k

anyone else besides me not like the included case? at first i thought it would be fine until i realized the when in the case, the joystick either stays depressed or becomes depressed at the slightest touch. even with the keypad lock this is not a good thing. apparently someone didnt think that one out all too well.

I like the case except that I have to be very careful when I pull it out to see if I want to answer the phone. 80% of the time the answer key gets pressed when I take it out of the case.

You mean if you go to the link, then dowload, then Download for Windows Mobile 5, it doesn't download the .CAB? If you can't activesync, you should be able to use a card reader and put the .CAB on the card then in your phone and run the .CAB

Posted by: pcman

I don't like these type of cases
the screen is always exposed, the oil from my face get on the screen
and if the phone falls it's not protected
I used a Krusell case with my 5600 and will try another 5600 case when it gets here (i know I may have to modify it to fit).
I just like a case on the phone already .
when the phone rings it takes me time to remove it from it's case.
if I drop it with a krasell case it won't get damaged like it will without a case.
if the phone is ringing I can't see who it is until I remove it from the case this is not a problem with a Krusell case

Yeah, the case is really stupidly designed. I'm hoping someone comes up with a better one.

A Cingular rep called me this morning and told me that my second order was cancelled because they had found my first order in their system. He then apologized and told me that it was backordered, which we all already knew. He said that his system it showed the reason for the back is due to lost luggage. I asked if there was more info and he said not at this time.

Yea, I figured as much. I do not have a miniSD card yet. Guess I need to bite the bullet and get one seeing how PocketMac and MissingSync for the Mac is not WM5 compatible yet.

You need the URL to the radio's .asx file. Thats how I stream my music from various radio stations.

I'd like to customize the home screen so it shows more than 1 or 2 events in the calendar section of the default layout. Does anyone have any idea how to change that? Or does anyone have a home screen that is pretty much all events ?

Also is there any harm in just having IE running in the background all the time? Is there some other way to shut down programs besides the TASK MANAGER ? Do I have to go to that every time I want to shut something down? Will WM 5.0 just shut down the last program used if it runs out of memoy ? Or how does that work?

You need a app called Facade, you can find it www.sbsh.net in their forums.

Programs left running in the background will be closed if they are not used by you or the OS after a certian amount of time. If you open a program it will close other programs that are not being used to allocate memory. There is no harm in IE running all the time, it will close when memory is needed.

Did you find the way to play shoutcast mp3's i.e. where http points to an ip address as opposed to a asx or mp3 file?
I could easily do it on SMT5600 but can;t find the way to do it on 2125...

They are not all the clearest pictures... hard to get my camera to focus on such a small item.... The screen is AMAZING in real life and it's easily the best phone I've ever had. VERY happy with everything on the phone...

All,

Is there any way to display IE in full screen horizontal mode sort of like on WM5 PPC platform? That would be one cool feature..

Posted by: Omega2008

I am sure it is possiable, but a app would be needed for that or if someone has the time to figure out the registry keys that controls the orientation of the screen you could change it.

By the way what homescreen is everyone using?

I am currently using this one:

What are some of the speeds you guys are seeing with EDGE on the phone? I'm pretty upset at the performance I'm seeing in my area. The best I have seen on the phone is 68kbps, and my 5600 used to get 48kbps on GPRS.

Are there any tweaks to speed up the internet a little more?

When you select COPY in CONTACTS all it does is make an actual copy in your address book of the contact. Also it looks like there is no way to cut/copy/paste text in WM5.0 ??? Am I missing something???

Posted by: Omega2008

No you can't cut and copy..........it sucks but thats the way it is. There is a program called xbar that allows cut and copy, however I do not know if its WM5 compatable.

EDIT: you can also send a vcard via MMS.

Posted by: Omega2008

I found an app that will let you send a contact via SMS it adds it to the Menu key in contacts. All you do is install the .cab, reboot the phone and go to Contacts and highlight the contact you want to send, hit Menu and it will have an option that says " send via email/SMS"

You can get it here

Posted by: Omega2008

Yep you have to edit the home.xml file. What is in bold in the following code is what you need to change:

Code:
<!-- Global/default settings for all instances of the Facade Plugin --> <Facade ClearType="1" BlendColor="COLOR_HOMERULE" BlendPercent="30" SelectionColor="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHT" SelectionBorderColor="COLOR_HOMERULE" ShowSelectionBorder="0" font-size="18" font-weight="bold" textIndent="6" padding-left="0" padding-right="0" padding-top="0" padding-bottom="2" bgcolor="transparent" fgcolor="#FFFFFF" ShowCompleted="1" Wraparound="1" LauncherArrows="0" Show="label" debug="0" MaxDays="30" MaxLines="60" UndatedFirst="1" AlwaysShowToday="1" ShowEmptyDays="0" LargeIcons="1" TabBorders="0" ShowSeparatorLine="1" ShowDateToday="1" ShowAllDayText="1" ShowTodayText="1" ShowTomorrowText="1" ShowNoAppointmentsText="1" ShowUndatedHeading="1" ShowOverdueHeading="1" MinutesPastAppointment="0" ClickAction="Prompt"> <format state="heading" font-weight="bold" textIndent="0" fgcolor="#000000" blendPercent="100"/> </Facade>

I changed it to 18 as you see above, its the right size for me. Just save the file and send it to your phone and overwrite the existing home.xml file on your phone and then change the homescreen layout to something different then back to the one you are using facade in.

I am using the cingular USB car charger that I used with my Razor with my 2125. I have not used the razor wall charger with the 2125 yet because I have been charging the 2125 from my USB computer cable.

I called today. They say there are no updates. I didn't press him because he sounded like he didn't know any more and did not care to do any further investigation.

If your using Facade it should be showing more than one avent. You have to change the size of the Calender area to show more. but when you select Calender and hit the joystick downward, you can scroll thru alot of apointments.

Code:
<!-- Facade Plugin View: This is the view that shows the info for each tab --> <plugin clsid="{C49CEC80-D445-407C-AA72-C263EDBBAC96}" id="FacadeView" height="82">

try changing the size in the entry that is bolded.

I would imagine that it should, since the USB standard says how many volts should appear at the connector. So long as there's enough current, I can't see how there could be a problem. Your mileage may vary, of course.

I agree with the above post. I have a Sony digital camera with the EXACT same USB cable/port. I was using my 2125 cable with my camera last night with no issues.

I called today as well. The rep said there were 45 back-orders pending, and they had a shipment of 500 phones scheduled to come in today. Assuming everything went through smoothly, the orders would ship out tomorrow.

I changed it to 18 as you see above, its the right size for me. Just save the file and send it to your phone and overwrite the existing home.xml file on your phone and then change the homescreen layout to something different then back to the one you are using facade in.

This little thing reboots your phone in no time......
It's an exe so it has to be manually moved to your phone, location does not matter...

PS. I forgot where I stole it from.

I hope you are right but I'm not holding my breath.

For those that have it, how is it to carry around? I don't like cases, so I typically carry a phone in my pants pocket or jacket pocket.

Posted by: Omega2008

I wouldn't carry it around without a case, the screen is unprotected and I wouldn't dare carry it without a case.

Really? Not even with one of those "screen protectors" like you can put on PDA's?

Posted by: Omega2008

Even with one of those, if you drop the phone without it being in a case you will break the screen more than likely. Those screen protectors only protect against scratches.

Good point.

Humm...

very true. I crunched one when it hit asphalt

This may be a silly question... but is there any way to set the phone to default to t9 (or T9) everytime text entry is possible?

Posted by: bdc10

Anybod have voice dialing with a Bluetooth headset working? I'm not getting the prompt tone in the headset. Judging by the slight hiss, it sounds like the audio path gets setup too late. I'm using an HSB850 from Motorola.

(BTW, I edited the original post which said that the mic wasn't working either. But I think that was a timing problem related to the late audio cut-through.)

Regarding the mailbox;

1. Is it possible to delete all items in the Inbox at once?
2. Is it possible to select multiple contiguous messages at once?

When you get it can you post if that cable is included, and if so, is it hard wired into the cradle or is it connected by mini USB? I ask because I would rather connect the cradle to a regular wall charger. Thanks! - Mike

Posted by: ll600

I've run into one glitch with Activesync.

I've been unable to transfer a 48mb video file to the mini-sd card - it goes about half way or more, then just stops. I've tried this a few times and couldn't get it to work. The card has plenty of room (1gb). I had to remove the card and add it using a card reader hooked directly to the PC.

Once there it works quite well. Full screen video on this thing looks very good - sharp and clean with good colors. It can sometimes get a little choppy - I have to experiment a little in doing the conversion for this device.

This is a fall back with ActiveSync. It will not let you transfer files to the phone or the memory card if they are too larger. Do what I do, get a card reader and a miniSD to SD adapter. It will be much faster too.

I have never used a case with a PDA or cell phone since my original PalmPilot in 1998. A good screen protector (Boxwave, etc), and facing inward in my front pocket has been the residence of every device. Not a single broken screen in all that time (where's the smilie for "knock on wood").

Seriously, whether a Palm Vx; HP 4155; Treo (600 & 650); or my now trusty 2125, they've all ridden in the front pocket (of course, if I'm working in the yard or building stuff, it goes on the hip or stays in the house - I'm not one to tempt fate).

Posted by: Omega2008

I don't take chances. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Posted by: tonyxcom

I dont use cases either, just a screen protector and put it in my front pocket. Cases just make them harder to put in my pocket.

I have been carrying a RAZR in my front pocket for the last year and have never dropped it. I carry a nextel on my hip for work and have dropped it at least a dozen times getting it in and out of its clip. I've also bumped it into all kinds of crap being that its on my hip.

Its a lot harder to drop your phone when pulling it out of your front pocket because you are able to get a firm grip on it with your entire hand as opposed to putting it in a holster where you can only grab the phone on a few edges.

Cases generally make the phones 20-30% thicker/bigger and can generally only prevent scratches. Believe it or not, there isn't much shock protection from 1.5mm of leather.

My 2125 voice dial is working with my Jabra BT250. It works just like the 5600 (except it works when the keys are locked ).

When I press the action button on my headset, I hear the headset "you-just-pressed-a-button" beep, then about 1.5 seconds of slight "hiss", and then a beep (for "speak now").

If you hear the hiss, it should be close. What does your screen do while the hiss is happening (and just after the hiss)?

This has been exactly my plan with all of my phones and PDAs, and same experience; not a single broken device.

Now I have had a few that got a lot of dust behind the screen. But this device seems to be fairly dust resistant so far.

No. But, I'm sure you'd want unlimited media net. If you are planning to tether then you'd need a data plan.

Please remind the rep that the phone isn't a PDA. It is a smartphone primary use is phone. Not PDA. They don't know the difference. The poor kids..

You can't transfer 48mB to the 1gB card over USB cable? Sounds like a bug.

And to remove the card, do you have to take the phone apart and remove the battery? If so, not acceptable.

Is the phone USB port fast or slow? (version 1.0 or 2.0?)

The screen shows the normal dialog saying to speak at the prompt. Just no prompt.

I'll try a different type of headset. Thanks.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, Who said this is failing to plan. I use the screen protector for scratch protection. The location is in front of me (my pocket) so it is not getting snagged on corners, seatbelts, etc. The pocket material is generally as protective as most flimsy cases. You have to get a firm hand grip on it to remove from your pocket.

I fail to see the real value of a neoprene or leather case on the unit unless you're a klutz that drops a lot of stuff.

Anyone have a good lead on a pre cut screen protector? (I have the coordination of a house plant)

Would one for the Audiovox 5600 fit?

I want one of the SUPER THIN kind... have one of those for my nano and it's great. Some of the thicker ones distort the screen.

Anyone have any experience or recomendations here??

Yes, that is what I have done. The Kingston card I bought comes with a miniSD to SD adapter, and I have a card reader. It did load very fast, but I really don't like having to open the thing up every time and take out the battery.

Anyhow, what is the deal with ActiveSync? Since when is a 48mb file too big when you have a very capable media player on most devices that use ActiveSync?

Most likely you can blame the decoder (Windows Media).
As with every codec as it gets better (compression wise) it requires more and more processing power to decompress and present the file.. While this is seldom an issue on today's fast PCs it is a valid issue on portable devices. As a general rule stay away from VBR mode, it gives smaller files but it consumes more in CPU time and in effect battery time. It's a trade off....

WIth my bt800, I hear the beep from the headset and then a second or two later I hear the higher pitch beep from the phone. I found if the phone has been idle a while it seems to have to "wake up" first. But as long as I speak after the higher pitch beep it works fine.

I called again this morning, and the rep I spoke to today had no clue about the 'shipment that was supposed to come in yesterday'. She too said that the warehouse either had not gotten the shipment, or had not updated the 'status page' yet. Sad - I was hoping to get it before I go on holiday next week so I could use it to look up maps etc. while on holiday.

I'm in the same boat as Cinguliano. I waited because at the time I wasn't sure which phone I wanted. Also I'm porting over from VZW and didn't think you could do that when buying online.

Now that I've decided that the 2125 is what I want as my new phone it disappears off the website. I've been talking to the guys at my local corp store and most them don't know anything about it (surprise) but there is one guy that does. He showed me the dummy model they got in the last time I was there (like last Thursday). Though every time I ask if they know when they'll get it it's "I dunno, call us in a couple days." Rinse and repeat.

I really want to switch to Cingular and the 2125 is the phone that I really want but it's getting to be a pain trying to figure out when this thing is finally going to make it to stores. Last time I went in one of the other reps tried to sell me a SMT 5600 but I'm still holding out,

I'm getting dangerously close to buying an unbranded phone, either an i-mate SP5 or Qtec 8310. The only thing that's really stopping me is price, I'd pay something like $150 to $200 more than I would for a 2125 from Cingular.

Yeah, but if you look at the old posts you will find out that neither the website nor telesales take orders from Puerto Rico, and I tried a few times. So I had no choice but to sit down and see how everybody was getting the phone right in my face while I waited for the phone to arrive to my nearest stores. Now the phone is still nowhere to be seen in stores and it is backordered elsewhere.

Chronos looks like the best alarm software to me;

http://www.activekitten.com/en/games/detail.php?ID=353

I'm not fully sure if it works on the 2125 perfectly yet, but give it a try.

By the way, you can change the alarm volume in your Profiles - you can increase the volume and change it from "Increasing".

I would give it another few weeks. Get a phone from CING this way will be covered by CING's warranty and if, God forbids, it develops dust behind the scren on non-responsive joystick as his older sibling SMT5600 you'll be able to replace free of charge...

I wanted things to simmer down. I know from ordering the AC860 on the day of launch that things get crazy no SKU#s, CSRs don't know about the phone, etc.

So I figured I'd wait a couple of days till the issues with telesales were fixed.

WTF...who knew?

Now it seems I won't even get the phone.

They still haven't even fixed the issue with the data plan.

I waited because I figured giving Cingular a week to get everything straightened out with ordering would be a good thing. Plus I wanted to see a few reviews here just to make sure I didn't get burned like I did with my MPx220.

FWIW, I talked to Cingular Premier Order Support today (after 5 transfers), and they said the phone is still backordered with no estimated arrival date. She said that one screen showed stock quantities of -91. She also said that if I do not call to check on status of the web order (and update the order notes) at least once every 7 days, the order will be cancelled. I am still waiting to order the next 5 that I need.

On a happier note, the one I did receive is working well. Everyone who sees it, loves it.

Over @ the Cingular Customer Forums they are saying that HTC will deliver no later than 1/3. I guess someone over there sent an email to HTC through the HTC 2125 site and that was the response.

2 - A shipment of 1600 units with camera is scheduled to arrive next week.

3 - Any backorders should ship no later than 1/6/06. Backorder will be shipped priority, and may even be for Saturday delivery on 1/7/06.

I ordered my 2125 over the phone on 12-23. The CSR was well-intended, but did not appear to have been well-trained. As others have reported, she was unaware of the 2125 and could not believe that I was correct when I told her it was not a Motorola or Nokia, etc. I tried to explain THC to her, but she finally looked it up on the website. (I ordered over the phone, rather than online, because I wanted to only commit for a one-year extension, and that option was not available online.)

She quoted me a price of $249.99, with no mention of rebates. And said that the phone should be shipped on Tuesday, the 28th, which was yesterday. I asked for a confirmation number, but she said they did not issue them, which strikes me as a strange business practice. In fact, I have received no confirmation that my order was received at all, or on what terms.

The next day, the 2125 disappeared from the online store and I had no confirmation of my order and plenty doubts that my order would be fulfilled and at the price quoted.

I did just checked my bank account online and saw that the bank has put a hold on some funds that can only be payment for the phone. Because I have some other small charges outstanding, it is not clear exactly how much I am being charged. I HOPE to get the $249 price I was quoted and then file for the $100 rebate.

So it appears that a 2125 is ready to be shipped to me, UNLESS they bill your credit card even if your phone is on backorder?

Can someone whose phone has been backordered tell us when in the process their card has been billed? Would they dare to charge your account and then not ship for many days?

The report that 2125s without cameras are now in stock, makes me nervous. I am hoping that my phone will have a camera. I did not specify either way and had forgotten that some business models were available without one.

Any encouragement folks can offer me would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pablo

I found that they put a hold on the funds immediately upon placing the order. However, once the phone is shipped it will post to your account as an actual charge.

I fail to see the real value of a neoprene or leather case on the unit unless you're a klutz that drops a lot of stuff.

I don't drop alot of stuff, I just run into it hahahah.

I read that the 2125 comes with a new style SIM card.

I am hoping to retain my Moto V551 and swap the old SIM between it and the 2125.

Does anyone know if I would lose any functionality of the 2125 by NOT activating the new SIM and continuing to use the old one? I am assuming that it would not be possible to put the new style SIM from the 2125 into the V551. Or am I wrong about this hunch?

Why would there be a new SIM unless it were necessary or desirable?

Thanks

The new SIM is a 3G SIM its what Cingular is going too, Its not going to help or take away any features. I am using a 64K SIM in mine and it works perfectly.

got BUGS?.. me duz...

xpressmail stopped "pushing" and life with 2125 has hurt all day. after 2-hours w/cing-help and several cold-boot resets, all is helter-skelter.

lock-ups across any program... no service in-and-out... no connection errors one surf attempt and no problem the next...

my-my... this suckith!.. excuse me while i take out the battery and sim and cycle out of freeze.

I just called NBO, they say there are 20 on backorder now, down from the 45 posted earlier, yet she told me straight up that the shipment of 2125's is NOT in the warehouse yet.

Hmmm

cfg

Mine says the same thing...I am real close to cancelling my order...7 days is way too long especially considering that they should have known that the phone would be popular. Whoever is the sales planner should be slapped with a brick...
Response from Premier is they are not sure when the next shipment is coming in.
I really wanted this phone during the holiday break, so that I could get used to it while I had some downtime...

I was told the new SIM doubles the memory of the old SIM, would give me better reception, and increases compatability with the AT&T network. I can tell you my reception went from two bars to 3 or 4 bars just by using the new SIM. Also, I was able to put my old SIM in the 2125 and it seemed to work okay, and was able to put the new SIM in my Sony Ericsson T616 with no problems (it also help reception in the T616).

I definitely think it is worth using the new SIM. When I activated the phone, they disabled the old SIM.

performance of the 32k vs 64k sim really depends on your area. The 64k ones favor the Blue network and the 32k ones favor the orange network.

There are also some shananagans rumors reported about the 64k sim keeping you on a blue tower even when a orange tower would give better reception to keep from having to pay tmobile tarrifs.

All I have to say is anyone waiting for the 2125, IT IS WORTH THE WAIT. After having the phone for two weeks I can honestly tell you how great this phone is. In the two weeks of having the phone, I literally have had ZERO dropped calls. And this is coming from a guy very loyal to the flip phone. I had a hard time leaving my MPX, but this was SO worth it.

By the way, my corporate store has several of them in.

On top of that the 64K SIM was said to help fight overpopulation in third world countries....... I heard so much BS from CING that I hardly believe ANYTHING I hear from them...
The "64K SIM in compatible phones" was a scam devised by CINGs marketing to:
a) get ex-ATTWS customers to switch to CING as this was only offered with Orange not Blue (advanced network features )
b) get people switching from BLUE to ORANGE to buy new CING-branded phones (old phones non-compatible )
c) cover CINGs incompetence in integrating its own network. Only recently CING has converted its network to a single MNC which should have been done long long time ago, making the issue of 64K SIM moot.

BTW. 64K SIM does not offer any advantages over the 32K one (unless you use it to store phone book entries, but why would store them in a single line format anyway?) and the new 3G SIM does not offer any advanatages over the previous ones if used in a non-3G equipment.

No. They disabled your old SIM when you activated your new SIM in your new phone. Why would they let your have two active SIMs on a single telephone number??? Do not believe everything you hear.

I totally concur, however the new 3G SIM does manage network loads on the phone differently. Some people may notice a difference in reception and some won't, it will depend on your area.

64K SIMs have the same phonebook capacity as 32K SIMs. The extra memory capacity is used to store additional SMS messages and maybe more networks on the Preferred Networks list.

I apologize if this has already been covered, but does the 2125 support file transfer via BT? I tried to have a friend send me an MP3 from his RAZR and he couldn't, yet he was ablr to send to another friend's ROKR.

No kidding!

Anyone here have the Moto HT820 Bluetooth A2DP headset and paired it with the 2125?
The 2125 doesn't support A2DP right? I'm sure that was too far out for Cingular to incorporate with this handset.

We need to start a campaign with HTC to get them to incorporate AKU 2 in a rom update.

That would be SMASHING!

Makes me wonder why they wouldn't if they are getting into this whole HBO download thinggy.

Moto Has the HT820...so do I Yes, gang the lil brown ups santa just delivered. I only thought I'd have my phone by now. AnyHO...

They have to do a rom update for this. PLEASE

I have a 64K SIM and it does just the opposite. It'll keep me on the orange network even if there's better blue coverage.

I'm no expert, but I'll bet that whether your SIM favors orange or blue depends on what it thinks your home system is, and has _nothing_ to do with whether it's 32K or 64K.

I just received my - "Your items are on backorder email" from Cingular Premier. Isn't that funny!!!

Now that's a million dollar question. I'm ATTW also and would like to get one of these especially if I don't have to migrate now.
