has anyone updated the rom and laoded the clearvue suite off the htc america site to see if the rom fixes the file association bug in the "free" clearvue?

since the rom update doesn't i.d. its changes and the site allows download of the app, maybe it addresses that issue???

too late for me to attempt since i bought westtek's latest suite compatible with spwm5. (i know you can work around the file association issue very simply but i was impatient since i screw my phone up tweaking it and often cold-boot).

The ROM is the version that is on your phone already.

Anyone have recommendations for a good case for the 2125?

Maybe at different price points?

I'm thinking about $30, but others might be willing/able to spend more. Others might be on a tighter budget, so if there are inexpensive alternatives offering good quality, please share that info, too.

(Perhaps I am a klutz, but a put a heavy-duty leather case on my V551, have dropped it repeatedly while exiting my car, and it looks brand new after one year.)

[BTW- this thread is becoming a bit unwieldy. Perhaps one of the veteran HoFo members can decide when it might be appropriate to initiate newer, more specific threads?]

Thanks,

Pab

I would ask these questions in the Smartphone forums. Not only that but more than likely your question has already been answered (not the one your asking above but you get my point). The Cingular Accessory Superstore has many cases for the 2125....not sure of the quality but, they are there.

Just a thought: Make sure you've dropped the GPRS/EDGE connection recently. The phone will get confused if the connection hasn't transfered data in a while.

However, I suspect this isn't your issue, since [stupidly] the phone drops the data connection anytime you put it into keylock mode.

This is a remarkable application and works very well on the 2125.

To download the right version:
It isn't listed, but it works on my 2125 if you download the midlet by
selecting "other" carrier, "generic" phone, and "Advanced MIDP2".

If I am using my phone untehered, the unlimited SmartPhone plan for $19.99 will let me use all features from the phone unlimited, right?

I have several email accounts that will be checked frequently and I don't want to run into mega data charges.

BTW

This is the best phone I've EVER owned... I've had several smart phones as well as some not so smart ones. I am an avid Flip Phone fan.. but this one beats them all!

thanks... i have... the cing "no"helpdesk said it is a software issue that will need seven to figure out. the workorder included my excahnge version, pc os version, outlook version, desktop client version, phone rom version, phone xpressmail version.

the funny thing is that manual sync and scheduled sync are fine

The young woman was very nice, helpful and seemed to be well-informed.

She checked the backorder status. She said there are currently over 2500 2125s on backorder! (She had a specific number, but I didn't write it down).

She said they will be getting a shipment of 1200 phones on January 2nd, and if that supply did not take care of my order, they would be receiving 4000 additional units on January 4th.

So, if this info is correct, and if the deliveries come in as scheduled, then all of our backorders should be resolved very soon.

She also noticed that my additional charge for priority USPS had been waived, which is a nice gesture from Cingular.

So that's the latest I have heard-- discount its accuracy based upon your experience with Cingular's service.

Happy New Year!

Well let me just add my situation for what its worth. I live in the Buffalo area and the phone had gone up and down from the website for my zip a couple of times. The local store had heard of it but had no idea of ETA. I called the Cingular 800 # and got a nice female rep. She had never heard of the 2125, but I explained the whole story to her, and said that some people on the computer forums already had these phones, that I really wanted one, and that maybe she could check with B2B (of which I don't have access to, I am just a regular consumer). She checked with B2B and said yes she could send me one out of their stock. Price was $299 with 2yr re-up. This call took place on Monday the 26th and she said she would send it USPS Priority (free upgraded shipping because I have been a loyal customer :^)). I called Friday the 30th to question why I didn't have it yet and to check on the progress. The rep I spoke to apologized that no one had informed me but the 2125 was backordered to the tune of over 2000 units. But she said not to worry, more were expected soon, and I should take delivery by 1/6 at the latest. I hope this works out because I can't wait to get it.

Just wanted to share my particular experience - Mike

Thanks Mike for sharing. Hearing everones tales makes it easier for me cuz I'm waiting too. Plus it helps hearing what the CSRs are saying so that we know how to help them understand what is really going on so they don't have to make up stuff.

Posted by: Cornflakeguy

I'm pretty sure someone already posted this, but after an hour of reading pages and failing miserably with the search, Im asking.

What is the background image size on the 2125, and what is it's coverage with the onscreen menu?

Meaning, does the stuff on the top and bottom float on top of the image, or does it squeeze the image down so it's not covered at all? (if that makes sense).

I want to start making some backgrounds.

want to laugh (or cry)???

yesterday on phone with cws (p.s. i have 2125 and it's working fine except for a xpressmail "push" issue i'm working on)...

me: if i need to get a replacement for my 2125, can i get it shipped today.
cws: one moment while i check.
cws: yes. with camera or without?

me: either. when would it ship?
cws: one moment while i check.
cws: thanks for waiting. you don't need a replacement. how else can i assist you?

me: if i wanted a new 2125 is it available in stock to ship?
cws: one moment while i check?
cws: i'm sorry, i don't seem to be able to get that information. can you hold while i contact my supervisor?
me: yes. also confirm the status of the 8125.
cws: what is the 8125 manufacturer name?
me: it is branded cingular and manufactured by htc.
cws: cingular does not make phones sir. if you don't know who makes the phone, i can't find the information in our system.
me: i don't have time to train you madam. please just call your supervisor and answer my questions.
cws: can you please hold?
me: yes.

cws: the 2125 is not available. are you sure that is the phone you have?
me: don't worry about it. what about the availability of the 8125?
cws: it is scheduled for release the 2nd quarter of 2006.
me: thanks for your help...

You know, I really love this phone. I had the SMT5600 and it was good, too. But this one, especially the EDGE data, is fabulous. Exchange sync is wonderful.

Amazingly, I just walked into the store and bought it. I did time my visit to the store to coincide with the release of the phone, so my success was probably half luck and half planning. But I'm still amazed at the difficulty people are having getting this thing.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the calendar home screen plugin still gets wedged? Until I rebooted my phone a few minutes ago, it was still showing me today's first appointment labeled as "tomorrow:". This was a 'feature' of the previous smartphone SW release (2003SE), and I'm really surprised they haven't fixed it.

A store by me got them in stock....BUT:

$299 for a 2 yr
$449 for no contract

I wanted a 1 yr contract and over the phone they said there is no price point for a 1 yr. WTF?!

I will say that I'm just about to cancel my order and wait for the forced migration. I'm beginning to not care or give a rats behind about this 2125. If mine isn't shipped by the 4th. I'm cancelling and waiting till they force me to migrate. This whole thing is bull-crapola.

When I talked to Cingular Premier Order Support (I am a B2B customer), they said that "orders placed on the Premier site will be cancelled if there are no order status updates for seven days". An order status update could be a call from the customer (and they update the notes), a new ship status, or order detail change. Since the 2125 was on backorder for longer than 7 days, there were no updates to the order.

I am not sure if orders from the main Cingular.com site or phone orders are subject to the same rules, but that is the information I was given regarding Premier Web orders on 2 separate occasions.

Where's the cingular accessories superstore? I googled and the only hit I could find only had generic pouches for the phone no actual cases.

The online store doesn't offer 1 year contracts and I'm not surprised that Cingular employees in the brick and mortar stores are not aware of the option either.

I got the $349 price by calling 611 on my phone. The CS rep was not aware of the 2125, but was willing to check things out and found the $349 price. That price DOES qualify for the $100 rebate (if you have a $39+ voice plan and an unlimited data plan OR unlimited data FEATURE, meaning the $19.99 MediaNet [and PROBABLY the grandfathered $19.99 MediaWorks unlimited].

PLEASE NOTE: This was for an end-of-contract upgrade. I ASSUME that the price would be the same for a new customer, but folks should specifically confirm that before joining me in my assumptions.

I am enough of a techno-geek that I want to be free to switch to a newer technology before too long. TWO YEARS would have been too long, so I paid the extra $50 to cut that commitment to only one year. Seems like a reasonable trade-off.

Of course, my phone is still on backorder, but I expect it by Friday [crossing fingers].

Exactly! Thats what I thought.....$50 extra for the 1 yr. Damn are they clueless. Is the rebate for the data good for 1 yr? Also....do you have to commit for the data for 1 yr....or only till the rebate clears?

thnx

Rapps,

Here is where you can find the current rebate offer:
http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/ce...df?WT.svl=reb16

Here are some relevant excerpts from the terms, but I recommend that you read them completely and come to your own conclusions rather than rely upon my interpretation:

Terms and Conditions: A) Cingular VISA Reward Card Offer valid only with the purchase of a qualified Cingular device with activation on a qualified service plan from a participating Cingular Wireless Retail Store, DMDR, Authorized Agent or Cingular.com between December 25, 2005 and February 11, 2006.

For data devices noted above, all customers must activate at time of purchase on a 1 or 2-year Cingular Voice Plan $39.99 or higher plus Unlimited Data Feature or 1 or 2-year Unlimited Data Rate Plan for modem cards which do not require a voice plan.

For MediaNet devices, customer must have MediaNet feature active at the time of validation.

B) Customer’s wireless service and required features must be active when the offer form is processed and validated to be eligible for the Reward Card.

E) All offer submissions must be postmarked by March 11, 2006 and received by March 25, 2006. Please allow 10-12 weeks for fulfillment of valid rebate requests.

As I read the terms, you DO NOT have to commit for a one or two year DATA contract in order to qualify, unless you are purchasing the wireless card. But you must have a data plan or feature active when rebate request is being processed.

So, erring on the side of caution, it would appear that you may not be getting your rebate (two $50 Visa cards) for 5 or 6 months, during which time it you probably would need to have your data plan (or feature) active.

The unlimited MediaNet "feature" at $19.99, appears to satisfy the requirements of the rebate, though there is apparently some confusion within the Cingular company over this point.

There is also some confusion over what constitutes "unlimited data" using MediaNet. (I certainly admit to having some doubts....)

I don't know what your data needs are, but I don't plan to be tethering my powerbook, or downloading from P2P networks with my phone-- just doing email, some web browsing, downloading a few WM5 applications, etc. So I anticipate that the MediaNet account will be enough for my needs and do not see maintaining my MediaNet feature for 6 months, or even the whole year, to be burdensome.

But I THINK the answer to your question is: "You only have to keep the data plan/feature until your rebate clears."

Warning: despite my occassional use of a "know-it-all" posture in my postings, I am not an attorney and you should use your own judgment in assessing your legal rights and obligations.

mm1999,

There have been several updates posted just a coupla pages back. You might want to review them to determine how much you wanna trust their reliability.

What I was told by a Cingular rep is that there are over 2500 backorders at this time. Cingular is supposed to be receiving 1200 2125s tomorrow, which will be shipped out to some of those folks. Then on January 4th, they are receiving an additional 4000 units, which should be more than enough to eliminate the current backorder list.

I would recommend a bit of healthy skepticism inform your view of these assurances. Many of us have been on a bit of an emotional roller-coaster waiting and hoping for the phone to be released and then for it to be delivered. I have been a bit surprised myself at how obsessed I have become over getting this phone. I guess I should wait until I get it before allowing "buyer's remorse" to kick in.

I do catch myself lurking on the 8125 thread, however, wondering if maybe I should have waited a bit longer so I could have WiFi and a cool qwerty keyboard for only $100 more?

I can only hope that the 8125 continues to be held up for a while longer so I can have a few months of (relative) peace.

At least until the Intel-based Macs come out!

Posted by: Cornflakeguy

So I found myself within walking distance of a Cingular store today, and I went inside to prod them about the 2125.

He had at least heard of it.
He said he will be getting them in 1-2 weeks.
And he had one of those "dummy models" that just came in.

I asked if I could see it.

He took it out of a white box and handed it to me.

HOLY COW that thing is tiny. The pictures make it seem as big as a remote control or something. I held it side by side with my BB 7100t and dangit it's SMALLER than the BB.

I'm not complaining (yet) but I wasn't expecting that. I hope I can read the screen.

How can the manufacturers get their hands on one to make a case if they are on backorder. I think it will be at least 30 days after the second batch hits the street before you see specific Cingular 2125 cases.

Umm......trust me they can make accessories for the phone just because Cingular doesn't have it. Hahahaha thats the funniest thing I have heard in a long, long time. You have to remember Cingular doesn't make the accessories, other manufactures do and I am sure they have the specs and a dummy unit to test with. Accessories always take a while to come out for devices. Thats just the way it is....well device specific accessories that is. The Cingular Accessory Superstore has some cases but they are generic pouches that will fit the phone.

WMP10 in 2125 is very picky as to the fav's format. (as opposed to WMP10 in SMT5600). Also, EDGE can sustain about 64kbps so this is the optimal stream speed... Here are some of my "early catches" zipped for your convenience. (both TV and radio) Just unzip them and put anywhere on the phone and let WMP find them through Library Update.
You may also edit them in notepad and substitute the URL with your own thus creating your own fav....
BTW. WMP10 will read most of wma files/codecs (with some exceptions like MELP) mp3 and mp4(aac!!!) but no REAL AUDIO )
Enjoy.

For your reference here is asx file typical syntax: (asx/playlist file may contain multiple entries encirled by "entry" tags ( <entry> and </entry>)

<asx version = "3.0">

Just a note:
I bought a Krusell case made for the 5600 I use one in the past for my 5600.
I bought a new one for the 2125 to see if I can make it fit.
It was a tight fit but I got it to fit
leather case does flex some.
I just hated the unprotected phone when I removed it from it's original case and the oils from my face on the screen (no I'm not a dirty person) LOL

Laugh @ me if you will. Just a couple of questions though...

Then where are the silicone sleeves?

We've been waiting on this phone for a while. The picutres have been on the FCC website for months. The date for launch has been pushed back quite a few times.

Think back to the SMT5600 it took a while for specific products to appear for that item too such as car chargers etc.

So, Where's the 2125 stuff you'd think they'd want all the new people to buy new gear for their new toys, especially around the holidays.

the mini USB home and car charger works for all the phones that take the mini USB
I'm using a car charger made for the mpx__ I used it with my 5600 for a year and now using it with my 2125 with no problems
the Krusell case I got on ebay new for around $14 it's a tight fit but works if you make it

I made my daily call today to see where my 2125 is... I actually got a decent CS rep who called another call center (Avalon Rich Call Center) to track it down. Allegedly, the rep who took my order waaaay back on 12/20/05 didn't put the "Ave." on my street address and UPS refused the order. They got the correct info from me today and promised it would go out tomorrow. I repeatedly had them confirm that the 2125s were in stock and they said they were, for what it is worth to the rest of you who are waiting.

Well if I ever get my 2125 I'll use the car charger for my SMT5600 too unless I hear different.

Something strange. I ordered the Moto HT820 the Bluetooth stereo headset with the A2DP. It comes with a Moto mini USB plug. That plug won't charge my SMT5600. Yet the plug that came with my SMT5600 charges my HT820.

Go figure. I thought mini USB power was mini usb power regardless. I guess not. I hope my SMT5600 plug doesn't blow out my headset.

I'm waiting for a silicone sleeve for my 2125...if I ever get the freakin phone.
I had the sleeve for my SMT5600 and it worked GREAT. I wonder how they will incorporate the humpty dumpty in the sleeve.

Actually, I believe the "AudioVox" 5600 was made by HTC. It's a variant of their HTC Typhoon. Just as the Cingular 2125 is a variant of the HTC Faraday. Apparently Cingular just cut AudioVox out of the deal and went straight to HTC themselves. No middleman.

How many 5600 accessories can still be used by the 2125, I dunno-- though I expect that there are folks on HoFo who have both phones and can chime in.

And it would be handy for us to know which AudioVox 5600 accessories we can buy for our 2125, without having to wait for the accessory manufacturers to catch up with the 2125 market.

(I am tempted by pcman's example of buying a 5600 Krusell case and trying to stretch it over the 2125's "hump", but am worried about the tension it would place on both the case and the phone....)

Cingular may be mad at them because they announced some WiFi (SIP)phones.

(I am tempted by pcman's example of buying a 5600 Krusell case and trying to stretch it over the 2125's "hump", but am worried about the tension it would place on both the case and the phone....)

i wasnt 100% sure on that, but i do have access to a 2125 and a 5600, i'll compare the plugs and report back tomorrow.

Whoever told you that lied to you. HTC manufacutures the 5600 and Audiovox bought the devices and rebranded it. The 5600 is a HTC Typhoon.

I'm just curious, did anyone here manage to get Chinese characters to be recognized. I've been busy lately and haven't tried the WM2003 SE registry tweak to enable it.

The 5600, while using a MiniUSB plug, has an oddity whereby the cable that comes with it (i.e., a "standard" miniUSB cable) can sync/charge via USB, but can't charge with the cable plugged straight into a power source. If you look at BoxWave's website, the sync/charge accessory they sell for the 5600 is actually a pair of cables - visually identical, but with subtle pin configuration differences - One can charge but only from a computer with the correct USB driver loaded. The other can charge off of ANY device, but can't carry sync data.

The 2125 shows up on BoxWave as having a single cable. Perhaps HTC modified the design on the 2125 to be a "true" miniUSB that can sync AND charge (from any source) using the same cables as other miniUSB phones, digital cameras, etc., and got away from the wierd pinout on the SMT5600/Typhoon.

Thoughts? Can anyone confirm?

the Krusell case I got on ebay new for around $14 it's a tight fit but works if you make it

if true, then why don't any of my blackberry mini-usb chargers (car or ac) work on either my 5600 or 2125???

both phones are by htc and the audiovox car charger for 5600 works on my 2125 as does the ac charger.

My question has been answered earlier by Omega, but does anyone here know if any company is planning to release a dual battery charger? Did a dual battery charger ever existed for the SMT5600?

That's what I was saying...the mini usb charger for my Moto HT820 headset does not work to charge my SMT5600.

Apparently the mini usb chargers aren't all the same. That is why I would want to make sure I won't damage my equipment by using a charger that appears to work.

Let's remember they make money off accessories. It isn't to their advantage to make interchangable accessories. So, be careful.

Just checked my "order status" on the Cingular website:
http://www.cingular.com/order_status/order_status

They have changed a few things. You can now check your status using additional "verification methods".

I'm glad to see that they are changing their order tracking system, because it is really screwed up. For the first time, the site notes the date of my order. December 28th. Only that's bullsh*t. I ordered it on December 23rd, over the phone from a girl named Kelly. I took detailed notes and I requested that she give me a confirmation number, but was told they do not do that. On the 28th, they put a hold on $365 in my checking account (phone, plus USPS Priority mail) and sent me an email confirming my order.

I understand that it was Christmastime, so I expect delays, but what the hell kinda record-keeping does their sales department have that it takes 5 days for an order to show up as having been made?

When I ordered the phone, there was a rebate in effect. That rebate expired on the 24th and a new rebate went into effect on the 25th. The terms of the rebate do have minor differences, but none that truly matter to me. What if the rebate terms had changed dramatically, or totally expired between the time I placed the order and the time (5 days later) that they bothered to note my order?

I can think of no technical reason why a confirmation email to me was not generated very quickly after I placed the order. Rinky-dink. one-person online sales operations can do it in short order, why not a huge multi-billion dollar operation like Cingular?

Back in February, after reading warnings on HoFo, I ordered the MediaWorks 19.99 plan with unlimited MediaNet, in order to get grandfathered in. I ordered it online, two days before the plan was scheduled to change. It took four or five days for my order to show up. It was recorded as having been made a coupla days AFTER the new plans went into effect, so I was given the $19.99 limited plan.

For a high tech, bleeding edge telecommunications company, Cingular doesn't know how to organize its own information technology very well.

Forgive my rant. I had assumed I was much closer to the front of the backorder list than I apparently am, due to Cingular's incompetence.

DAMN PHONE BETTER COME SOON!

Posted by: Shikyo

Well some people seem concerned with the car chargers. I use a usb car charger adapter. USB port in a cigarette lighter. Connect the usb cable that came with my phone and its charged my phone just fine. Think I paid $7 shipped for an "ipod car charger". Charge my C2125, PSP(have usb charger cable), and iPod this way.

Posted by: xultar

OK, today is the day. I'm cancelling my order for the 2125.
I've decided to wait until they force me over from Blue.
I'm tired of waiting and I'm angry.

Posted by: jl234

My order no longer shows as backordered. Not sure if this means my phone will get shipped today or not, but this is the first sign of any progress I've seen in two weeks. Hang in there xultar!

Posted by: Steve28

Anyone know if there is a store in the Boston area which has any of these phones in stock?

My order also changed this morning to no longer being on backorder. Still shows 'In Progress' though. Here's hoping it ships today !!

Posted by: Cornflakeguy

My order status is slightly changed as well. It no longer shows 'backordered". I rushed over here to crow!

Well, looks like we have movement. Keep pushing, Cingular.

cfg

Posted by: TimIL

My order (12/21) showed 'shipped' when they shipped (around 12/23) the 520a that we ordered for our 2nd line... They put the tracking number on both phones - you can imagine how long it took for me to explain the situation to the reps on the phone. The horror!!!

So, now there is no way (except to call) to find out the status. Calling their support is such a nightmare.

OK, here's the deal. I recived my 2125, 12/16/05 and was very pleased at the speed it was sent out to me. A few days later, I recived another box, thinking it was a christmas gift, I put off opening it until the last minute (as I do). When I did open it, to my suprise, it was another 2125... What? I had read that Cingular didn't handle the Christmas rush very well, but this is rediculous. I still have it boxed up and waiting for a call from Cingular letting me know to send it back. About a week ago I called to ask about how to send back my MPx220, knowing they would pull my account and I could then see if it was on their computers. They did not say a word about it to me. What should I do? This second 2125 has to be in their system somewhere right?

I JUST CALLED TO CANCEL AND IT HAS SHIPPED. I HAVE A TRACKING NUMBER!

You came to HoFo to ask whether or not you should steal?

Posted by: Jakaroe808

Steal? I didn't sell, or use the thing. I still have it in the box they sent it in.

I'm Using the 5600 Krusell case with the 2125 $12 on ebay
I will take a Picture and post it later tonight
it is a very tight fit but leather does give some just need to take it slow remember the case is a virgin

Posted by: Second_Twitch

First post...
I placed my order on 12/24 on the Premier site and it's been backordered ever since.
After seeing several people have recieved tracking numbers today I called again for status.

The web order status page still shows backordered with a last action date of 12/27, but the CSR says the order is processed and gave me a tracking number!

FedEx says they picked up the package at 7:21 this morning in FT Worth, TX and scheduled delivery is Friday!

I guess I'll have to take Friday afternoon off to make sure I'm home when FedEx get there.

I hope your ashamed of yourself implying someone stole a phone.

He erroneously got it in the mail so as an honest person he has a duty to attempt to make thing right but an accusation of theft...Where are your morals?

Cingular is oviously run so bad even calling CS and arranging for it to be sent back could hurt him when Cingular looses it and then finds that they sent 2 phones.

Unless Cingular can pick it up with a receipt it's his to keep and not think twice.

Using it however would give me bad vibes so on the shelf it would go.

Posted by: soonercpa

I was just about to call customer service, then checked online order status again. My tracking number now shows up. Fed Ex - says I will have it tomorrow. Ordered over the phone on 12/21.

I would call CS and tell them that you were shipped a 2125 that you didn't order. See what can be done from there. If that doesn't work PM me, I have some ideas that could help.

My phone also was picked up for shipping this morning. I payed extra for the phone to be shipped to me faster, and I wasnt sure how cingular would handle this, as the phone was ordered almost 3 weeks ago, but it appears it is being shipped fedex standard overnight, so I should have my phone by tomorrow afternoon!

There's volts, and then there's amps. Power is one times the other. So the problem is likely that the charger for the headset puts out the right voltage, but not enough power to charge the phone. On the other hand, it shouldn't be a problem using the phone charger to charge the headset.

Wrong. They were both made by HTC.

And, the asside from one being labeled Audiovox, they are both exactly the same charger.

DAMN PHONE BETTER COME SOON!

UPDATE:

Mine is also showing as shipped. USPS Priority Overnight.
ETA: 5pm tomorrow night

I guess my rant here a few hours earlier got them scrambling!

(I knew powerful insiders from Cingular were reading our posts here on HoFo!)

Some of you guys have "more phones than fingers," but this is only my second phone. I spent a month researching my earlier purchase, but the shipping was quick and the emotional stress was minimal. Waiting for this phone to be released, deciding to buy it, then watching it get removed from the website, having it "endlessly" on backorder and then, finally getting notice that it has been shipped.... All this has been an emotional roller-coaster for me. I wanna go back to my usual, mellow, semi-buddhistic, Henry David Thoreauvian, anti-consumerist self!

But I can already see what's in front of me. Anticipation until 5pm tomorrow. Frustration masked by stoicism if the clock gets beyond 5:05 without my beloved in my arms. A sleepless night of re-reading and posting on this thread if it DOESN'T arrive. Staying home from work Friday morning-- either to wait for the late delivery, or to celebrate and experiment with my new toy--"Boss, I can't come in today. I'm sick. What have I got? Well, consumer frenzy! I'm worried that it's terminal!"

And then the frustrations trying to fully utilize the 2125 WM5 platform. I'm a Mac guy! I know there are other Mac users on this thread. Maybe we should form a WM5 Mac users support group?

BUYER'S REMORSE! I can feel it coming!

(I was losing it last night when I thought my shipment would be delayed a coupla days and now I'm losin' it cause the phone'll be arrive tomorrow!)

Its the phone of the Devil, be forewarned! Auughhh!

What makes you so lucky KID.

Nope, I get your post you weren't even discussing stealing you were like hey man they sent me 2 the whole order thing is messed up. What should I do. I've called but haven't received a return lable.

Thanks I never get the Amps and volts thing. I hear them discuss it on mythbusters but I'm so tuned into JAMIE..he's so hot. I never get the concept!

So you dont' think I'll be blowin out my HT820s? Just a side note

The HT820s do not work with iTunes....go figure. It does provide stereo kickin digital sound from MS MediaPlayer. IT was nice jamming last night with no cord 10ft from my laptop getting crystal clear sound.

I hope there is a rom update for the 2125 to carry the new version of WM 2k5 with the fix to include the the A2DP bluetooth profile.

That would be sweet jammin on your phone then a call comes in and it pauses the music while you take the call. Using the buttons on your headset to go through tracks etc. I'll go bonkers.

I have a link to a program called M2SimCopy. I do not know if it will work on WM5 but you can give it a try.

My phone has been shipped also. Status page shows order placed 12-27 (actually made order call on 12-26) and they are sending it Fed-Ex standard overnite (nice surprise) so I should get it on 1-5. Not all that bad really for a backordered item. Hey, I'm obviously just happy I should have it in my hands soon! I had sold my V600 already and thank God I never got rid of my good ol' Nokia 6200. It performed admirably and surprisingly the battery seemed fine, even after sitting unused for about 2 years.

What I am curious about is this "instant $100 rebate" I have seen mentioned on a post or 2. I paid $300 for mine with a 2-year re-up and dammit I am poor.

So the weirdest thing has happened. My phone won't turn on unless I plug it into the USB cable. Attempts to turn it on otherwise yield one flash of a red LED (where the green/orange one usually is), but no startup screen. Strangely, if I plug it into the USB cable (which is plugged into the PC) it will power up. Once it's powered up the battery reports 85% charge. Very weird.

I tried another battery with the same results.

I guess it's a good thing Verizon is releasing the Treo 700 tomorrow. Maybe this is a sign.

There may be a problem with your USB cable. I had the same issue. My phone would be on my PC and it lookled like it was on and partly charged. When I unplugged it it was drained so far it wouldn't come on.

Come to find out there was a problem with my cable. It wasn't charging only powering the phone. I have a new cable. All is fine.

If you have another mini usb cord give it a try. Also try using the regular AC wall plug.

Hah, I don't think that was it, since even unplugged it reported an 80% charge.

I left the battery out last night and it powered up fine this morning when I put it back in. So, somehow something got confused. I'd love to know what, but I doubt I ever will.

Has anyone else purchased the 2125 as part of a migration from Cingular Blue to Cingular Orange? I just checked my first bill, and now that the dust settled I think I got a pretty good deal. I doubt I'm the only one to get it, as I'm no one special to Cingular.

So far the phone, including taxes, is just under $150 on my bill. This was ordered through the migration line from Blue to Orange. Has anyone else gotten wierd pricing and offers that way?

Cingular is starting to resemble Comcast - decent service, but customer service staffed with untrained monkeys and technical wizards, you just never know which one you'll get when you call.

Actually, my AT&T plan did not satisfy my needs. It was 850 minutes family share plan, free n&w starting at 7pm, and free mobile to mobile. This was $60 for two lines, of which I haven't used one line for 4 months.

I switched to a single line w/ the 1500 minute plan for $50 + unlimited medianet.

Try rebooting both the phone and the computer. Mine locked up trying to read the encrypted block on the first try, but a reboot fixed everything. My 2125 is unlocked now (reading my blue sim just fine).

I've tried restarting both and I've search HOFO for this error, but I can't find anything with the error "reading encrypted block."

I also looked in the smartphone forum and cannot find anything other than the directions I followed in this post.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Well, I went ahead and called the Cingular Representative to the President who sent me my phone and let her know that I recived an "extra". She put me on hold and pulled my account. When she returned, she let me know that she was only showing one 2125 had shipped, asked if I had spoken to anyone else at Cingular around the time her and I had spoken. Nope... She said she would look into it and call when she finds out what went wrong.

^ That phone was supposed to be shipped to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I don't think I would agree to a 12 year contract!

So what was the problem?

I'm still waiting on mine (fedex says will be here tomorrow), but I'd like to know if there are any problems unlocking how to fix.

Thanks

I used the instructions in this thread, but 3 extra things.

You must have a cingular sim in the phone when you begin, then you must install the cert.cab file on the phone, run it, then reboot the phone, then run spv services on your computer, then select cert.cab folder while its running. At least thats what I finally did to get it working.

Hope that helps!!

Just an update - this has been done.

Simply download the retail version of the suite from ClearVue's site send them an email describing your problem and they should respond in a day with a free S/N to register the software.

wow i just got my 2125 and played with it for a few minutes....i must say this phone is amazing. I really havent gotten to do much on it, but when I do I will post my impressions. A quick question though: I have all my contact on my sim card, is there any way to transfer them to the phone. On my 5600 there was a sim manager app which could tranfer my contacts for me, but it doesnt appear this phone has this app on it.

It'll do https for sure. And, adding certificates is pretty easy (just drag them into some folder on the phone, then click on the certificate in the file browser on the phone and it'll self-install).

As for Exchange web mail, it depends on what you mean. I can't even begin to imagine doing OWA, although maybe it would work better than I think. I've heard, but not confirmed, that pocket IE doesn't do frames. But other browsers may.

OMA is ok, but is entirely text based and a pretty dull experience.

Remote ActiveSync is what I use, and it works very, very well. I have the phone set to sync every 15 minutes, which is close enough to realtime so far as my phone-based email is concerned. You can, of course, have the sync's done as needed using SMS notifications from the Exchange server, but then you'll need a big bucket of SMS.

Doesn't THIS update resolve that problem? Version 1.0.0.1 on the disk, but 1.0.0.2 on HTC's site for download.

Is anyone having any difficulty getting MMS to work on the 2125 with a blue account? I receive a notice that I have a new MMS, it shows who its from and the size, but it just doesn not include picture or clip.

I have changed the settings to the correct ones in:

Start >> Messaging >> Menu >> Options >> Account Options >> MMS >> Menu >> MMSC Settings >> Edit

Is there another setting that I am missing. I can use voice, text, and mmode, but no MMS.

Thanks!

For retail customers, the phone is offered with a $100 mail-in-rebate, provided you pick up a $39.99 or higher voice plan and the unlimited PDA data package. In many cases, when you buy the phone through a corporate discount program, the rebates are done as "instant" (i.e., just discounting the price) instead of making the customer mail the rebates in. Needless to say, that is a major advantage - I'm sure it is something that is negotiated as part of the FAN program.

One point I noticed with the corporate rebate is that the data package did not have to be the unlimited, but could be $19.99+. The obvious question is.. can that include the MEdiaWorks package (particularly the old one) - and the answer is... no but yes. It shouldn't include that since reps aren't supposed to add MEdiaWorks when getting a smartphone - but the rep who sold me my phone noted that the $19.99 plan was alrady on my account (I'm doing an upgrade) and said "that's good enough." Since there is no rebate to mail-in, the rep became the sole judge of my eligibility. If she had said, "no good, you need one of the PDA plans" she'd probably have been right - but I guess I got lucky here.

OK, well I've had a few hours to play with the phone, and my favorite feature is definitely the QVGA screen, however, this is a problem when it comes to finding new apps and homescreens. You need to look much harder to find stuff you like. I've already had one big problem. When I first got the phone, I could get on Pocket IE and browse fine, however, now when I try to get online, the icon in the top right hand corner doesnt change to the "e" and i cant "locate" any sites. Can anyone help with this issue? Also, I stil need help transfering SIM contacts to the phone.

Posted by: Omega2008

Switch the phone in and out of flight mode, or restart the phone.

Oh and you can go to my blog and try the link to M2SimCopy. Not sure if it will work on WM5 but you can give it a try. I wouldn't worry about transfering contacts, I would fire up Office Outlook, add all my contacts there and sync with the phone. Now you have a copy on your computer and your phone, so if you ever have to hard reset, all you have to do is sync the phone and all your contacts, mail, tasks, and calender will be synced (if you set it up to sync the other items).

I specfically asked if a PDA plan was required for the $100 discount. The rep said no, that any unlimited data plan will do. Also, if you read the T&Cs of the rebate, it doesn't mention anything about the type of unlimited data plan needed.

I had troubles with MMS even after I changed the settings. I just figured it out. I thought it might help others.

In order to use Former ATTWS Blue Sim and be able to send and receive MMS messages you must set the wap to wap 1.2 not wap 2.0 as the default is set to in the MMSC setup menu.

Hope that helps.

ndml,

Can you post all of the BLUE GPRS settings here....

Thanks

Anybody know which data plan will give me unlimted usage of my smart phone features (i.e. pop mail access, not just the Media Net mail access) at the lowest price?

I know the PDA plan will... but I saw a SmartPhone unlimited data plan in a brochure at a store for $19.99... but it isn't listed online. Is that the plan I want? Or will unlimited Medi Net do it?

Thanks guys!

At First, I Added new Blue profiles for everthing, then I found that only by editing the existing Cingular profiles would it work. The programs seemed internally linked to the original Cingular profile and I can't select one over the other as a default, except MMS. Maybe you'll have better luck, though it doesn't really matter.

Here's the edited Cingular Blue settings for the 2125 (Again, former ATTWS settings, not Cinular Orange)

Start >>Settings >>Connections >>GPRS >>Cingular GPRS

"Cingular GPRS" (CHANGED FOR FORMER ATTWS)
Connets to: The Internet
Access Point: proxy
Username: (LEAVE BLANK)
Password: (LEAVE BLANK)
Primary DNS: 10.250.1.10
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
IP adress: (LEAVE BLANK)

Start >>Settings >>Connections >>PROXY >>MEdia Net >>Menu >>Edit

"MEdia NET" (CHANGED FOR FORMER ATTWS)
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP Network
Proxy (name: port): wap.mymmode.com:8080
Type: HTTP
User name: (LEAVE BLANK)
Password: (LEAVE BLANK)

To enable use of Mmode WAP page and Full HTML Sites:
Start >>Internet Explorer >>Menu >>Options >>Connections >>

Uncheck Automatically detect settings.
Select network: WAP Network

START >>Messaging >>MMS >>Menu >>Options >>Account Options >>MMS >>Menu >>MMSC Settings >>Menu >>Edit

"Cingular MMS" (Changed for Former ATTWS)
MMSC URL: http://mmsc.mymmode.com
WAP Gateway: 10.250.250.100
Port: 9201
Connect Via: The Internet
Max. Sending Size: 300K
WAP Version: WAP 1.2

Note: You can make a new MMS profile and set it as default, but I chose to do the same that I was required for the other profiles/settings.

I hope this helps everyone! I want a royalty for all the settings if you use them!! haha j/k. Enjoy!

SmartPhone unlimited is the same as Media Net Unlimited for $19.99. This will give you everything you need, for the least money. In fact, its even shown on a flyer in this thread with the $19.99 Unlimited Media Net. Anyone that says you need the PDA data plan is incorrect (sales reps), even Cingular's official terms don't require it for a smartphone as long as you don't tether.

Thank you very much.

I just wanted to be sure I had the right plan with which I will never see additonal data charges no matter what I do with the phone (as long as I don't tether, purchase applications, etc..) I'll be checking 5 e-mail accounts VERY frequently... and some may have some largish attachments.

Thanks again!

P.S. Sorry I did't catch the flyer in the thread ... I did try to search and browse the thread a little before asking.

Thanks for the DSL Reports link.

In my office I only get 1 bar and I got 65K, which isn't bad at all for poor signal quality. Really nice phone. I'm pleased

It is CING's big scam, all of the unlimited plans give you exactly the same....
CING just wants more from PDA users knowing they tend to use that feature more. It's a scam since they mislead customers to believe they provide something extra with the PDA plan. Also VZW provides unlimited EVDO speeds at about $15 a month....
Also, I tethered from time to time when working remotely with no access to LAN or dial up and was never hit with any extra usage charges. Of course you may want to keep that at reasonable levels i.e. no Kazaa or p2p.....

No need to pay more than you have too!! With the 19.99 MEdia Net plan you won't have to change any settings. You will be good to go right out of the box (unlike me - former attws customer).

Don't worry about the flyer. This thread is miles long. I've been reading it since it started, that's how I knew. I didn't put a link to it because I probably couldn't find it without spending 3 hours looking back. But it does have some good info.

Enjoy the 2125. I know I do.

Yup, so far is the best I ever had. And this comes from a long time NOKIA addict who switched sides with SMT5600 only year ago...
You may want to make sure to have the HTC USB modem installed on your laptop/PC (it came on the companion CDROM). When everything else failes its a pretty decent dial-up access with VPN capability.....

One more thing, you may wnat to pick up a retractable USB-C cable at RadioShack for about $10. When using 2125 as a modem you really want to keep the phone charged through your PC as GPRS takes a big toll on the phone battery life but it is not much for your laptop's battery....

Good thinking. I'll have to get to work on that. It would be convenient when theres no open hotspots or a traveling without Broadband.

Again, thanks.

I got my 2125 last night and it is heaven on a stick... almost worth the 16 day wait and frustration.

However, all my hundreds of contacts in Outlook 2002 (I upgraded from 2K from the CD) aren't syncing with the phone. Some are and some aren't being transferred. There doesn't seem to be a pattern of any sort. Anyone got an idea? Thanks! --COFFEY
