first off - hi, i am new here
i am really impressed with the layout of this board, and the wealth of information on it.
in fact i was the happiest person alive when i removed teh stupid verizon banner from my front lcd on this 8900... (yah yah, i am behind the times lol)
mini-rant....i got the phone cheap - so i am not TOO steamed.. but still.. i've had probably 15 mobile phones in my life, and probably 13 of them - i've used various cables to connect to and edit phone lists, sync calendars, or even recreational stuff like upload games, ringers, etc etc... i LOVE this 8900 - for the most part i'd have to say its among the best phones i've had (so much so that i'll be buying another to replace this one if its a permanent break) - but i am MIFFED that it is so damn delicate to changes!!!
-end rant.
problem: she is stuck in a slow reboot. turns on, balloons appear, and the verizon fly-on banner starts...
then it sits there for about 5 minutes.. and will eventually make the "turn on sound"
then it sits there for another 20 minutes... and reboots! whole lengthy process starts over.
Cause: I used bitpim (latest ver) with a usb cable to download the pics i took, to my PC. i then edited one of the pics for size, to make a better background (kinda like the monkey.png file)
upload into the same directory as the other pics, using bitpm, and "create new file" on that part of the tree.. it placed the file fine... then the phone rebooted.
and now its in this loop. bitpim can't connect at all during this process, and even if it did, i wouldn't know where to start lol.
am i SOL, or is this something i can have fixed? i was going to be stopping by the verizon store after work... see what they could do...

Verizon's only advice was to "let them" replace it, to the tune of 100 plus tax...
audiovox's solution was to send it in and they could restore it, but it would be 75.00 which is the minimum service fee they charge.
any other suggestions????
i really don't see paying more to repair it than what i paid for this phone in the first place.
thanks

I'm sorry to say that it's likely that only other option would be a forced EFS reflash via a JTAG cable and JTAG program.
There's some info in the Audiovox forum on mobile-files.com that may help you in doing this, but it's pretty involved.
