Treo 650 and mmode

I have an unlimited mmode account and called today to order a treo 650. Lady told me I had to upgrade to a data account and couldn't use my shared phone account either!!!! Why would I not be able to use the Treo on my mmode unlimited data account? Basically would cost me $75 more a month to change my account for this phone, I don't get it?

With Cingular, they consider the Treo a PDA and require you to get a PDA plan if you own one. Several people use their Treo's with the unlimited plans, but bought the Treo elsewhere (not at the cingular store) and just haven't informed Cingular that they have a treo yet. Thats the only way to get around it.

So will that work? Will I get a bunch of extra charges through my mmode account? Not sure how they could know?

I think a few people have gotten "busted" by doing way too much data stuff or letting it slip out, that they have a treo, to the wrong person.... but for the most part, it works with Cingurlar. I got mine on ebay for $300 and am using the $20-something unlimited plan through Cingular and have been for 3 months now. I cant speak for mMode, but with MediaNet it works that way.

I have a Treo 650 with mmode, and yes, as soon as Cingular knows you have a PDA-type device, they will gouge you. Like many posts above, I purchased my Treo on Ebay, and used it for my purpose. But I'm real careful on puttinig too much data transmission on it, unlike my Sprint PPC-6700 which tallies about 400mb a day. Does anyone know if Cingular/AT&T monitor the data usage closely?

I can't understand why the mpx220 would be allowed to use mmode plans and not the Treo? I had an mpx in the past with no problems at all?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

it cingulars way of making more money. there is no diffrence bewteen pda plan and media net plan. they both use the same acess point. so it not like you better speeds or better data compression. I use the old media works package. I don't think cingular monitors data that much, especially if you have mobi tv on your plan. that thinks takes huge amounts of data

Main difference would be the browser which only uses WAP on the mpx220. Other than that, I don't see why Cingular should gouge us on haivng a PDA device. Should be more like sprint (besides their customer service)
