both of these phones are great. The only thing that would make the balance go for one is the operating system. for the PPC-6700 its going to be windows mobile and for the Treo 650 its palm OS.
For the rest its pretty much the same.
Its a pretty damn hard question that you're asking since they both are so powerfull.
As I said, the way I see this is:
Do you want to go Windows Mobile or Palm OS.
Have you used a Palm before, or a phone with Windows Mobile?
Which ever you will feel most confortable with should be your pick.
Good luck with that.

Man, EVDO is the drawing power. I have both, and I can tell you that I'm getting real spoilt by the speeds that my PPC6700 gives me. Another thing as well is the landscape feature. The square screen of the Treo is not really great for viewing webpages or documents. The 6700 also have a better keyboard than the Treo. Its nice and tactile, domed and great to use. The sizewise its almost the same. Screen resolution on the Treo is better, and there's still softwares that are available on the Palm OS side that can't be found in WM. But the 6700 has proven to be stable, and never had reset on me. The Treo on the other hand..

I just returned my PPC-6700 and went back to using my old Treo 600. Having Windows in your pocket can be okay, but it comes with all the Windows problems. I had frequent resets, hanging syncs, functions that didn't work right, etc. I had to do a lot of customization to make it work the way I wanted it to (which may be different from the way you want it to work). After a hard reset, all those custmizations are lost. Unlike with Palm, a sync won't restore your installations or tweaks.

It was just too much trouble, not to mention poor support for one-handed operations. It's a cool toy, but for the 3 days I had it, I spent way too much time trying to get it to work and way too little time actually using it.

So funny how your experience is totally opposite of mine. I've trouble with my Treo 650 all the time, and resets are expected (or rather unexpected). My PPC-6700 NEVER resets on its own. Its stable and I never have the need to reset it. I have my IM, emails and XM running all at once without any slow downs or skipping of songs. I never had to worry that I'd lose any data because of persistent memory. I don't even bother backing it up anymore. I've let it run out of battery numerous times, and each time when I plug it into the electric outlet, everything worked as before.

I'm not sure if others agree with me, but my experience with it has been pleasant..

That's what I was hoping for! I saw your post about your Palm issues in the other thread. Man, that would suck.

Re the 6700, I probably wouldn't have tried hard resetting all the time, but after reading hundreds of threads on various HTC devices, it seemed like that was the only sure way to solve certain problems after 30+ minutes of troubleshooting failed. But to be honest, I would have put up with it a little longer if my Sprint signal were stronger (e.g. more than 0-1 bars) at my house. But without a good signal, it wasn't worth troubleshooting with the phone more.

Posted by: xynos

heh.. that's sprint for you. I have 0 bars at home but I still get great speeds and never missed a call. one thing I will say is, the treo's reception is nothing short of AMAZING. I'd get 3 bars of signal when my razr is out of comission. but sprint is , at least, laying out their expansion plans and following with it. cingular and tmo in the meantime.. frustrates me when I've been a long time at&t customer and seeing that cingular's first umts phone is available middle of 2006? man, so much of their claim about having 6 cities covered by umts now. if that's true, what are these people using? ok, i'll stop ranting and get you back to your usual daily life.

I have both, well, I HAD a 650 for almost a year, and just switched to the 6700. I have to say that I prefer the 6700 even though it has a lower-res screen b/c it IS much more stable & faster. The keyboard absolutely BLOWS AWAY the Treo's too. I loved my Treo, I still do, but I found myself using my Sidekick more & more, and I often would just leave the Treo at home & forward my calls b/c it was too damn frustrating to deal with most of the time. And after the last ROM update, battery life went to, well, you can imagine what word I'm thinking of here! I'm talking 60% by 9pm without even making any calls & maybe 10 minutes of web surfing. I ended up seeing the 6700 @ CompUsa, whom I conveniently have a credit card with, and decided to make the switch.

There are pros & cons to each device, but the 6700 edges out a little ahead in my book.

Owning both the SKII and now the 6700, in your opinion, do think it's worth waiting for the SKIII to come out versus getting the 6700 now? I've been contemplating getting the 6700, but I keep thinking in the back of my mind that the SKIII will be out soon and then I'll be sorry I just didn't wait. Thanks

I'd get the 6700, because there are more apps for it, as well as the nice benefit of editing Office documents, viewing PDF, games, videos, so on and on..

Posted by: Kabuk1

Well it depends on what you want from the device. There's no confirmed proof that the sk3 is coming out soon, or at ALL, and even when it does, I guarantee it won't be able to do as much as the 6700 does.

Posted by: Tydaking

Thanks for the feedback. As much as I love my SKII, I was bummed when I lost all my apps with the last OTA update for it. But if the 6700 can do what it does and then some, sounds like I might be needing to upgrade.

Are u aware if there is a Jabber type application that can be loaded onto the PPC to allow multiple chat clients using a single interface? Or if there are mobile versions of popular chat clients that can be simply loaded? Thanks

I recently became a 6700 owner through Telus here in Canada. And being a Treo 650 owner as well I find the 6700 supports native files and syncs easier then my Treo which also suffered from annoying resets. I love the slide out keyboard which is more laptop type in feel. And having the extra EVDO bandwidth which honestly screams much faster than EDGE is a worthy item. In short I loved my Treo but the new and improved WM5 is great!

Question guys, on my K-JAM I can sync/view my Outlook email (inbox and sent folders), whereas I can't get the same to work on a TREO 650 I'm borrowing. Does the Treo 650 have the feature to Sync email on the handset?

Posted by: IsLNdbOi

I tried the PPC 6700 and didn't like the lower res screen. Even if the 6700 can do landscape mode, it's still showing less than the Treo's screen since its screen has a lower res. right?

Also, compared to the K-Jam, the 6700's keyboard is a little wobbly because it has less keyboard railings / grooves to keep it aligned. There's a thread about this on TreoCentral. The K-Jam's punctuation and number keys are also backlit vs. just the letters.

I haven't used the the 6700, but I have used the QTEK 9100, a sister device to the 6700. It is also a "Wizard." Each of these devices require some compromise. I like the form factor of the Treo 650, minus the antenna. If single handed operation is important, then the Treo cannot be beaten. In fact, I tend to disagree with many posters who claim that the Wizard's keyboard is that much better than the Treo's.

Yes, it is wider and they keys are larger. In one respect, that makes it a "better" keyboard. However, the backlight on the Wizard's keyboard makes it virtually useless in semi-dark rooms.

For me though, ability to synchronize with an Exchange Sever is paramount. While Treo 650's have some limited abilities in this respect, they cannot be compared to the native Windows devices. Of course, once there is a Windows based Treo, this becomes a moot point.

Btw, from what I have heard the SK III will be available 3rd or 4th quarter 2006. Sidekicks are always released during the 3rd or 4th quarter.

The HTC Wizard's keyboard cannot be compared to the PPC-6700.
