Sidekick File Transfers?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I noticed the SDK II has a mini-usb hookup. Is there any way to put custom ringtones or pics on the SDK? Is there some sort of software out there? I keep seeing the intellisync stuff but that doesn't do file transfers... any idea?

No. You need a developer key, and unless you know Java... move along.

That should be changed to "Unless you have some programming skills"

18 months ago I didn't know anything about Java (I never even made Javascript stuff). I have now 5, soon to be 7 games in the hitpop catalog. And 2 of them will be on the Blackberry platform as well.

Yeah, I have to agree. Java skills isn't really the requirement - development skills or at least an interest are the requirement. 2 years ago I didn't know any Java at all and I hadn't written any code, seriously, in 20+ years, but I learned Java specifically for the hiptop and managed to do well enough with it to get an app in the Catalog as well.

It's certainly an interesting testament to Danger - platform naysayers be damned - that the hobbyist developer has been the heart of the Danger developer program and it's the little guy hobbyist and small mom-and-pop businesses that are prospering from putting apps in the catalog.

Go for it. It's a fun device to develop for. You could screw up and write something marketable too and wind up getting paid for it. That's a nice bonus.

No. If you have any development skills at all you can get your own dev key easily enough.

lets say we did wanna learn. where can we go to start reading up on this java and arent there different types of java?

Posted by: sk2sep2304

What are you geeks tallking about?!

...I'm just jealous.

Posted by: Kabuk1

Start by going to barnes & noble & picking up a book or two on java. Then, put the tea on, get comfy, and read. Then, play around with code & hone your skills enough to write simple apps so you can prove to Danger you aren't full of billdink & just wanna be a dev to get ringtones & free games.

Ok seriously wtf. I'm asking about putting ringtones on the freaking thing with a data cable. When did we start talking about java games and making money?

Posted by: fish1856

Because the only way to put ringtones on there is to be a developer. Hence the developer key. Which you need to know Java to write programs for the hiptop os.

not true, Canadians can e-mail wav files to their @fidohiptop.ca address to get ringtones onto their phone, unlike the Americans. Add that to the list of why Canada Kicks ***

suncom users can send ithem to @hiptop.suncom.net and put ringtones onto their phone. Take that canada!

Posted by: jgeorge

Actually, I think everyone other than T-Mo can do this. Edge Wireless out in California (they carry/carried the original color hiptop) could do this too.

Maybe we should both re-fraise our comments to "Take That T-Mobile " LOL

I remember when I didn't live in the best country in the world, and I had to make fun of everyone who did so I felt better. Oh wait, I've always lived in the US. Looks like I was confusing myself with you.

I'd like to know if there's a sneaky way to save pictures into the gallery so I can use my AIM icon. I know if you sign on on the computer at the same time as the sidekick, it'll retain your icon for a while on the sidekick, but not once you've signed off.
