I have a sidekick with a broken lcd and a sidekick with a working lcd that doesnt get reception for some reason. Is it possible to change the broken lcd and put in a working lcd? Or should I change the antenna on the one that doesnt get reception? What could be the problem?

It's not only possible, it's quite easy. You'll have to take it apart to swap the LCDs, and to do that you need a torx screwdriver. You can get one from one of those stands where they sell phone accessories in the mall.

1. Remove the 4 corner buttons & the bumpers. The buttons pop right out if you use something thin, like a tiny screwdriver, to lift them out at the inner edges.

2. unscrew the screws under each button, and unscrew the 2 screws on the plate behind the screen, above the keyboard.

3. gently pry the case apart. the top comes apart easily but the bottom requires a slight bit of force. Don't rip it apart though, the bottom edge is somewhat delicate.

4. The screen should now come off of the top part, and you should be able to put the working screen in its place.

5. retrace your steps & put the whole mess back together.

6. Enjoy.

I'm kinda tired right now so I may have missed a step. If you encounter anything that I didn't describe here, PM me. Oh- this will hard reset your device BTW, but if you've ever had to hard reset before you know that everything will come back in a few minutes.

Of course Kabuki's instruction works for a Sidekick 2. If you have a sidekick 1 this doesn't apply.

you dont really have 2 do all that work, you can simply just tilt the LCD to the left, to reveal two t6 screws, unscrew them, and bam, the LCD on the hiptop2 comes right out, be sure to be carefull takin it out, as the flex cable is very close in there and can easily rip if you pull it out too hard.

Thank u soooo much this is such a relief...how does the screen connect to the unit? I see the ribbon...but is there a plug or something? Does it have to be soldered or just plugged? I've never opened it up.

Thanks!!!!!!

It would really help if you could clarify if this is a SK1 or SK2 device.

I have the SK2

For the SK2, the screen cable is a pressure connector - the 2 screws in the hinge plate hold the cable in place, there's not plugging/soldering/anything needed.
