Is this phone defective??
I suspect I'm going to return it and try a replacement.
1. extremely annoying battery life when the phone is "out of service", which I am let to believe cannot be changed. I work in a basement, have to remember to turn it on/off when leaving/entering the building. When in the basement it goes into analog mode, which drains the battery *VERY* quickly.
2. there are times when the phone hangs on "no service" for no valid reason.
Example: last night was in a mall and called my wife. For some reason our connection dies. My phone shows the call ended and says "... redial ..." with a low signal indication (one signal bar or
less). Wait, wait, still no signal.
I turn off the phone and turn it back on, signal strength is now 3 bars and I have no trouble dialing! This has happened several times. The only solution has been to turn phone off and turn it back on.
3. modest reception capability compared to the ancient 5 year old phone it replaced.
so what's the deal

I'm no expert in Pansonic phone but I'll make suggestions:
the no service issue...
when you phone display's no service it scrambles to find it (based on the programming of the phone it could search every second for example)..
that will kill your battery, yes, because it's always actively searching a signal and the transmitter/receiver is always on.
in that case, shut your phone.
the signal indicator problem.. if this happens all the time when you have 1 bar, shut the phone and it shows 3, then make a call and it shows 1 it could be a few things...
1: the tower your phone is on is broadcasting at a stonger wattage obviously, so your phone RECEIVES 3 bar.. but when the phone goes to transmit (TDMA only transmits at 0.6 watts max i think) it'll show a much better representation of signal strength...
OR...
your phone is defective in which you should exchange it
