Cannot connect with PC suite

I have never been able to connect my P910 to the PC with the PC suite software. Both USB and bluetooth connections fail to find my phone with the connection link. Even DUN wouldn't work when PC suite is installed, it gave me all kinds of error. But after I uninstalled the PC suite program, DUN (thru BT) would work. However, without PC suite, I'm not able to sync my phone with the PC. Can anyone help?

It is usually a firewall problem. You have to allow all the items indicated in the read me that came with the instructions.

I followed the instructions in the readme, but the connection link indicated that all the com ports are not connected, even after I set up the serial link.

Hmmm, I'm not running any firewall on the PC, it shouldn't be the problem....

Looks like I'm not the only one with the problem....

Make sure you have the latest USB drivers from SE's webpage, I had to install a few times but it worked.

Oh, I used the one from the CD, I'll try the one from SE web site too.

Btw, how did you get the BT to work properly? I have trouble with both USB and BT...

I must have spent over 10 hours this weekend trying to get this to work. I'm giving up using this POS software. I have to uninstall the PC suite so DUN would work properly.

Without able to connect and sync with PC makes this phone a lot less useful.

I'm just surprised that no one else on this forum has the same problem. Considering that there are so many complains on the allaboutsymbian web site.

I have seen it posted elsewhere to NOT have the cradle or phone connected when installing the software - only connect them when prompted by the install. Also, after uninstalling the software did you reboot and delete the directory previously created by the install? Are there any remnants in the registry from the previous install before reinstalling?

As far as BT, is it built in or an adaptor to your PC (USB or a PCMCIA card?)? Make sure that the most up to date driver from the manufacturer is used as XP defaults to its own default BT driver if the manufacturer driver is not digitally signed, so you have to force it to use the right driver. I use a Linksys USB BT and that was the issue there.

One thing to try would be completly remove the software then switch USB ports if you have more than one. Install the software first and have the USB drivers in a folder then cradle the phone, it should ask you to install the USB device then point the program to look in the folder you have saved.

Yup !! I give up....I can't seem to get this working. I believe it most people are having the same trouble. Das mean....SE PC Suite sucks!! But everything else on the phone is wonderful.

I have had similar problem with infrared on vers. 6.6 and on a previous version on another phone. In infrared, my puter recognizes phone. I can even download to phone, and back. But not on PC Suite. Just didn't want you to feel alone.

For those who can't get PC suite to work, how do you install new apps? Can I copy the .sis file to the memory stick using a card reader, and somehow install the app from the memory stick? I really want to at least install opera on my phone.

yup, download a bunch of .sis files, move them to the MS card using a regular card writer then install everything from the card. That's what I do.

I struggled with the same problem a year ago when I got my P910a. I found the problem to be the version of Windows I was using. It would not work with Windows XP Service Pack 2. I was told that by SE themselves. I am able to use the software on my laptop from work since it uses Windows 2000. I have not looked in a year to see if there was a fix for the software to be used with XP SP2.

I think the PC suite has many issues, it's not just with XP SP2, I tried on an old windows ME machines with no firewall/anti-virus programs and it didn't work on that neither.

I have had the 910a for a week with no problems syncing. Today I uninstalled the "sony ericsson pc suite" and reinstalled it to see if quickoffice installed on my desktop. It didn't. the problem I am having now is that the phone connection link says the usb is connected, but the sony erricson desktop says the phone is not connected.

has anyone else had this problem?

also is there an order when installing the pc suite, connecting the usb cable, and connecting the phone to the usb base?

Posted by: seatart

Yeah seen that, try this
Rebooting computer and power off phone then on
Can't remember the sequence but I think Install suite first then usbcable then phone. Check instructions tho

Posted by: tber

I will try that thanks for the help. I lost the little piece of yellow paper that came with the cradle.

It took a minute, but it worked. You are the best

My pleasure
