Changing the Keypad Lighting Colour on the Sharp 903SH...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Don't think this topic has been discussed very much, but having the orange keypad lighting on the white 903SH looks pretty weird . Is it possible? Discuss.

This would be awesome. Same as the message light changed to any of the 6 colours..

Maybe for the 904|???????

it looks good with the red 903 though =)

it looks OKAY on the black. I think white LEDs would have been better though. and i totally support having the option to change at will.

yeah the orange keypad lights on my white 903 looks cheap and kinda cheesy but oh well

Posted by: volcompunk

they do what they are suppose to do so and they do it well, so i can't really complain

I love the look of the red/orange lights on the black 903. I think it looks really cool.

This thread reminds me of an interview I saw (I think it was on Adam and Joe Go Tokyo) about a guy in Japan who does custom LED light modding for any Japanese cellphones. He places them underneath any clear parts to the phone, such as ones that have clear/semi-clear parts on the faceplates, or underneath the keypad, etc.

If I can figure out where the video came from, I'll see if I can get my hands on it and upload it somewhere. Although I wouldn't recommend cracking open your 903 and installing LEDs like this guy did. That has bad news written all over it, and I have a feeling that if I tried, I'd be out $600.

I had my gauge cluster modified on my motorcycle. It now looks all futuristic with reverse indiglo and different colors that light up. I'll ask the guy who modified it if he can do cell phones. I know he can also do gauge clusters for cars.

Doing a car dash is simple. Doing a cell phone is something else entirely.

they're just LEDs nothing hard about it. just like nokia LED modding, the hard part is taking apart the phone.

Posted by: X20A

Is it how they put the phone together that makes it hard?

Yes characterlimit

I like the orange, especially on black. It's a big plus when you're a Flyers fan like me. (Their colors are orange and black)

Boo, dang Flyers took Forsberg away from us Denverites. haha

Yup, white LEDs on the white 903 would have been awsome.

You can probably get it done, but i'm afraid of letting anyone touching my "precious"

i'm glad flyers took forsberg... death to the avs. go nucks go.

haha. i guess i don't need to go into another debate about nucks vs avs again with ya eh djtransformed.

we could go on for days.

Well, for Nokia phones are easy enough to modify but for Sharp phones? Anyone doing it now?

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

I`ve done few different type of phones like Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Sagem and I must say that older Nokia phones are easiest to mod.
I havn`t seen Sharp keyboard layout so I can`t say it`s hard or easy to mod but everything depends on LEDs background (if it`s plastic alike with wires, I wouldn`t do this) and on LEDs type.
There are few other things about LED types you should know. First of all, orange and green colours (this typical, dull green and orange) have much less power consumption than any other type of LED, also they require lower voltage. Red LED needs more power, blue even more and finally white LEDs are most power hungry and also needs around 1V higher voltage for full brightness.
I wouldn`t use white LEDs in phone with such high power consumption, it`s just a waste of energy, red ones are OK, maybe blue but never white.

i tried to take apart a 802SH, but after a close look on its internal picture obtained from FCC... i gave up...
the internal of the phone is basically one piece that's enclosed by a number of outer body components.
I've found it hard to take the phone apart without damaging the cosmetics...
maybe someone with more careful hands and better tools can do this

Posted by: BMWFilms

well that rules out white...don't need my 903SH battery life going down. I guess that's why green and orange are Japanese favorites. Nice post

Haha, we all know the Avs are the better team. Bertuzzi was just angry that the Canucks were getting owned so he had to get Moore from behind.

not really a guide but some pics of taking apart a 902sh, i think the 903 would be similar
