I know this has been posted a few times in the actual forum, but I think the agents that mostly come here need to talk about it as well.

Rebranding, AGAIN. So who wants to take a guess at how many customers are going to be upset over Cingular becoming AT&T Wireless.

I hope this doesnt mean I need to learn yet ANOTHER new system.

an email was just sent from stan saying that Cingular is not changing their name. The reporter misquoted and reported it in a confusing manner. the cingular name is staying.

*sigh of relief* I just read the email.

I havent been able to read it yet since I only get to my email once, maybe twice a day. Im glad that it isnt changing

even if stan says no, hes not the one to decide that.

as much as id like to keep it cingular (ooh the migrains ill get if it changed) there IS a possibility of a name change. both parent companies are ok with it so who knows.

if this somehow does happen, someone shoot before i got to explain to the original former at&t users this isnt the same at7t they had before.

well according to the letter, theres a chance of seperate division. ugh.

Here's the deal as I understand it... Cingular will remain Cingular (which includes the legacy orange side and the blue side formerly known as AT&T Wireless). SBC is joining with the rest of what's left of AT&T - not the wireless part that merged with Cingular.

In math terms:
SBC + AT&T = at&t
and:
Cingular + AT&T Wireless = Cingular Wireless (raising the bar with a 2-color logo)

The new SBC/AT&T conglomerate will become "at&t". (Not the old stodgy AT&T in uppercase letters, but the new approachable at&t in lowercase type). The company currently known SBC is combining with the telecom behemoth of AT&T and the new hybrid will be known as "at&t". They will probably offer wireless as part of their new approachable marketing plan. This was always part of the original plan when AT&T spun off their wireless division - and part of the deal was that they'd be able to sell wireless under the AT&T name (or rather, "at&t" since they want to be more approachable).

Don't fret too much. It'll probably take quite a while before they develop an "approachable" lowercase csr to call. Besides, since AT&T divested most of its wireless capabilities when they tossed that part of the business to Cingular, Cingular could actually end up being the network provider FOR the new at&t wireless... if they enter the market as an MVNO.

Ironic, eh?

Plans for an at&t MVNO with Cingular were announced a while ago when AT&T Corp. decided to cancel its plans for MVNO with Sprint. This was months ago.
