ASF and 3GP IMPORTANT QUESTION

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: volcompunk

What's the better format graphically and audio wise? Also I've converted some files to ASF and while they came out looking beautiful I noticed the sound was off... what gives? Basically I want to convert the whole 1st season of LOST so I can play them on my 903sh and I need to know which is the better choice overall. Also the size of files is not an issue for me

asf = windows media asf?

or another form of asf? what program did you use?

Posted by: echau

use 3gp converter.

setting: general 3gpp + AAC with xvid encoder

video and sound are both great.

Posted by: echau

and it's easy to use too...drag and drop

I suggest you to use Sorenson Squezze 4, much better sound quality.

For all 903SH users:

Best setting is .3gp. Use 3gp converter and select 3GPP+ACC General Settings ---> QVGA High Quality 15FPS Stereo. It is stereo with mp3 quality audio. If you want the sound to be louder, adjust them in Goldwave and save them as .wav with 44100HZ PCM signed 16 Bit Stereo.

Use TMPG Encode to reencode the movie clip to .avi format and then drop it in 3gp converter. Also use TMPG to adjust the screen ratio to a full 320 x 240 because 3gp makes the screen whatever it is on your media player. Highest frame advantage on 903/902 is 15 FPS output regaurdless input.

Video 3gp is miles ahead of ASF on the 903 because:
1. MP3 Audio quality
2. 3gp format syncs the audio with video so fast forwarding is allowed
3. 3gp fast forwarding is a little faster than ASF
4. 3gp is a little bit smaller than ASF
5. Process is also faster than using ASF converting w/ moviestage
6. Now you can rename the clips to whatever you want but granted you have 13
characters/spaces.

3GP_Converter creates files with ag2 extension. The phone does not see these files. When I change the extension to agp the phone sees the file, and starts playing - but stops after about 3 or 4 seconds. I have chosen QVGA High Quality 15fps Stereo - and have tried with three sources - all with the same result. Anyone else experiencing this? (i am using 3GP_Converter034 - I believe it is the latest?)

Thanks!

Ooops... I had chosen the wrong setting in setup - It looks like I actually needed Genereal: 3GPP + AAC General Setting - and I had selected 3GP2 + AAC General Setting (the first choice)...

Sorry 'bout the waste of bandwidth... totaltoanage said exactly what to... and somehow i missed it...

I dunno, 3GP converter never worked for. No matter what extension in the set up i choose the end is always error which is very frustrating! I hope someone can provide me with some insight ot how to fix this problem.

Posted by: echau

hmm...i never got any errors...always worked flawlessly for me...

maybe you should download it again?

Did you encode your intended file into .avi first? I did that on Riverpast Video Cleaner Pro, now the videos work like a charm.

Posted by: xinhang

to avi? i dunno about that i just drag any file and tried to convert it

Posted by: echau

well...for me 3gp convertor works with .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, etc etc...

Posted by: rip

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (MobilePhone SCP-7300/CA/1.0) NetFront/3.0 MMP/2.0)

i just use nokia multimedia converter v2 it works fine then i just drag n drop to miniSD on the reader.

I am really impressed with 3GP converter.. It is fast, and has worked flawlessly for all my video files... So far I have converted vid clips from my Casio camera, divx movies made from my Sony Video camera and Adobe Premiere, divx/xvid movie downloads, pda movie downloads (newsgroups) and vid clips from my Panasonic camera.

I couldn't imagine it being any easier. Only (small) problem so far is that the Prison Break PDA series averages ~90MB each - but in AVI format. When 3GP'ing them, they go to ~140MB each.. But not a problem, as I only need a couple on my MiniSD at once.

Oh yeah - one other thing. All the files I have created don't seem to allow me to fast forward/seek.. that will be a problem when a pause is not sufficient.

Posted by: rip

What miniSD are you guys using? I'm thinking do i need the ATP 1GB x150 or would a normal one be fast enough?

Posted by: totaltoanage

normal is fast enough. the only advantage of higher speeds would be uploading the video faster to your miniSD from your computer. 903 doesnt lag or anything so it wont make a difference in video or music wise.

Posted by: MODist

Where do i need to place the 3gp file (what folder) of my 902 to watch full screen movie?

Posted by: skywalker

I don't know about 902, but for 903 you put it in the Videos folder - I think it is Private|Vodafone|My Items|Videos or something like that...

Posted by: MODist

Phone can't see the file ((

Posted by: totaltoanage

902 is only for asf full screen. 903 has both 3gp and asf full screen.

So there is no need to convert these .3gp files to .asf. What folder do you put the .3gp files in. I tried in SD Video and it did not work for me on my 903.

It would save me so much time not having to convert these .3gp files to .asf.

Posted by: totaltoanage

3gp videos should be in the video folder from the my items folder not the sd video folder. use 3gp converter to convert your avi videos.

Posted by: rip

I've left mine on the SD under Video gallery...only 10mb internal memory

Posted by: Angelguy_3

Hey is there a site where I can download the 3GP convertor from? I got the ASF convertor, its good video quality but very poor sound. Thanks

Posted by: skywalker
