Does anyone know where to find FREE RINGTONES for the sidekick/hiptop!!

Posted by: theoneplaya139

cant. if you have a dev key and proper software than you can.

Posted by: Chinasaur

Not technically true. He can find all the free ringtones he wants.

Just can't use 'em.

2 ways. get dev key or hope tmobile has free ringtones. and i dont think that will ever happen. ermmm unless u got the non tmobile phone then u can email ur self a ringtone of somthing like that. stupid tmobile. no one should buy ring tones from them. that way maby they will unlock that feature for us again. i know i am doing my job are u? hahah

Good luck with that, i doubt t-mobile ever will unlock that feature for us.

And you cant use the Suncom Hiptop on T-Mobile as far as I know.

No, you can't. Suncom devices are SIM-locked to suncom (and unlock codes are a major PITA to get) then you have to have the device reflashed to the t-mobile OS (not possible for mere mortals) to get it to work on the network, and you can guess that flashing the t-mobile OS is what locks your ringtones out, so converting a suncom device to t-mobile, other than the 2 impossible steps, won't get you what you want anyway.

damn..t-mobile really shut ***** down...

What really grinds my gears about T-Mobile is that the only reason they locked down the ringtones is pure GREED. What other reason could there possibly be? They want you to want ringtones, and they make it so that the only way to get said tones is to pay $2 each. And whats worse is that they're not even GOOD tones. The sound quality is terrible, and it's 90% rap. It's so stupid- you can put tones on their cheapo free phones, and even the ones you buy from the regular catalog have a WAY better selection that the SK's catalog- but on a device that we pay for, we have to pay for every tone we get(well, *I* don't, but hey, I campaign for the little guys).

Why they locked down MMS- NO clue there.

Posted by: divinatum

It does suck, but there's nothing we can do about it. Yeah suncom has a ringtone catalog, but they also have like... 5 or 6 subscribers. (JK suncom!)

MMS.... i dont know either, but it looks like carrier to carrier MMS is now supported by t-mobile sooooooooooo maybe in a future update? please? pretty please?! with sugar ontop??? and a cherry!??! .......COME ON T-MOBILE!

Posted by: Kabuk1

Seriously T-Mo! There is absolutely NO REASON to lock MMS. That's just retarded.

People who have dev keys just for ringtones kind of annoy me......

[rant]
Dev keys are a great idea, that was ruined by certain publications, and people, and activities used by the keys.

Personally, I don't think the system should be closed as it now is. I think Danger should bring back the open system and make one small change to the OS & HTConsole.... Remove the ability to install ringtones! and let those "brave" enough to risk their HT's to software problems back in.

The great thing that dev keys unlocked was the ability to load software off skdr. Developers often use this site to post beta's of new applications, be them proof of concept, open source, destined for catalog submission, or just something a developer wrote in his/her free time to share for free. Usually when a program is going to be mass released (here, through the catalog) it needs testing. Let's face it, developers can create, and kill bugs... but can't find them all. Personally, it's my opinion that software in the catalog wouldn't be the same if the dev keys started as developer only. On skdr, bug reports are sent in as well as suggestions for improvement in the areas where its a little rough around the edges. The "community" of these bug reporter sleuths and creative minds is diminishing rather quickly, only to be replaced with people just looking to get some new apps for their phones and not test the applications.

I'll admit I don't have as much time to test these new applications as I used to (with school and everything) but I will throw my 2 cents in on an application every now and then.

....This has been another rant brought to you by.. me, the Letter H and the Number 4.

most developers already have beta testers and dont need anymore, and i use my sidekick2 to test other peoples app not just for ringtones and the tone option in ht console is very testing sound on the device which just happens that u can save as a ringtone
