Please Help 6100 Driver Issues

I am trying to get my 6100 connected to Bitpim through a data cable. For some reason my computer will not recognize the phone. The phone is not showing up in ports either. When connected, "other devices" mysteriously appears above ports and shows three CDMA Technologies listed with exclamation marks through them. But they will not let me update drivers. Please Help.

Do you have current drivers for the phone (USB)? Current version of bitpim? Did you enable the comm port on the phone for either USB or Serial (RS-232). Mine is set for serial connections and works with the latest bitpim.

Hi, I'm confused on which drivers I need. I thought I needed a driver for the data cable to communicate with my phone. I downloaded a couple of different drivers that I read about on this site. I'm also confused on how to enable the comm port on the phone. Is that in a setting in my phone somewhere? I do have the 8.02 Bitpim, so I think thats ok. Thank you for any help you can give me.

The drivers required depends upon the cable you have.

If you have a straight-through USB cable, you will need the LG USB modem drivers.

If you have a Prolific cable (has a black box in the middle of the cord, Aka = USB->Serial cable), then you will need the prolific serial drivers (can be found on www.futuredial.com).

I would recommend starting off by setting the PC connection on the phone to USB (regardless of what cable you are using).

If you have the prolific cable, I always have to have the cable plugged into the computer, power down the phone, insert the cable, and power the phone back on in order to connect to bitpim.

In bitpim try selecting "Auto" as the comm port. When it comes time to trying to connect, do not use the "detect phone" feature. It is not always reliable. Instead, go to the filesystem tab and click on the "+" sign.

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you get it working.

Correction, I have 8.03. I found the PC connection in the phone and changed it from usb to the rs comm port, but when I try to connect with Bitpim, the connection resetts itself to closed. Do I plug the data cable into the phone with the phone on and then open Bitpim, or is there a different order of doing things?

.......ok, since you apparently didn't carefully read what I just wrote, I will start from the beginning.....

First,
What kind of cable do you have?
Does it have a black box in the middle of it or not?

Hi, I'm sorry, I didn't even see your first post when I posted my correction. My cable does not have the black box in the middle. I will try what you told me in your first post.

Could you tell me where to get the LG USB modem driver and where I tell the computer to put it when I download. I usually put things on the desktop first.

Just for the record, when I plug my data cable into my phone, nothing shows up in the ports listing in device manager, however other devices mysteriously pops up above ports and three listings that say "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" are listed under that with questions marks with exclamation marks covering the question marks appears.
