Hi everyone,
As you know, 903sh is almost entirely depleted in Japan and that it will be a while till the vodafone makes the new batch in japan which will likely have a lock on it thats unbreakable or near impossible. Do any of you guys living in japan or heard of any place in tokyo that still got 903sh left??? shop names would be great or phone numbers to the shops. I have contacts in Japan scavenging for 903sh rite now, but a lot of them are outta stock. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank U Kindly

hi, i just got mine this weekend from the vodafone shop in shibuya. when i came in and asked for it, they said they're all out. but then the girl disappeared in the back and came back asking which color i want... no explanation. well, i didn't give it any thought since i got what i wanted. could this mean i got one from the new batch already?

open the back of the phone. under the battery it will say when it was made.

my 903 was made: 2005年10月 (October 2005)

Ok, mine's from 2005年11月. Didn't find any unlocking service for mine yet (in Japan)... any suggestions?

I live in Tokyo, around Ikebukuro and I see it in stock everywhere, so I don't know that it's so out of stock anymore, or just that the methods that people have been going through to get them are no longer working.

Cloud V, could you please tell me some of the stores in Ikebukuro that you have seen that are still in stock? I would most greatly appreciate it. I have some japanese friends who are hunting for them, without luck.

I'll take a look on the way home today and post back.

Of course, I'm looking more forward to the SH902i about to be released in a few weeks, but I guess it's not that interesting to most back home and all since DoCoMo handsets aren't usuable abroad...

Is it possible to buy a 903sh without a contract in Japan? If so, around how much is at stores presently?

Yes, it's possible - from certain small (independent) stores, many of whom are locate in Akihabara. When I was there (in September), some Indian guy in Akihabara sold them without any contract or hassle... for 70000 Yen (price in Vodafone shop with contract was 20000).

All camers shops sell them with no contract. I believe the price is about 65,000 yen.

wow... didn't know they sell them without contract.

How much for Vodafone Sharp V703SH in Japan with no contract?

its so hard to find them eh? umm... i have good news and bad news for you. i hope this doesn't get me into trouble.. but phones with 11-05 build date have a 80% chance of not being unlockable. i have encountered 5 of these this week. only one of them was unlockable. ... and flashable.

Tim, sorry to ask a very newbie question but is this only apply to locked phones? If I buy a unlocked phone with a 11-05 built date I'm fine. I'm confused. I'm very new, sorry. Hope you can answer my question.

Posted by: m5domain

Yeah, I got the same question, sorry Im an idiot. basically if the phones have a build date after or on 11/05, that's no good right? meaning it CANNOT be unlocked?

Posted by: Timsta

well.. if its already unlocked and with 11-05 build date. you're totally fine. but if you buy a locked one with the 11-05. there is a high possiblity it can not be unlocked. there is a way to tell tho.. from what i've found so far. more details later.

Timsta, if you get the chance please let me know how can you tell if it is unlockable or not. Two phones have already been bought and paid for any are on their way over here, I have ordered 6 more but not bought yet, I am going to have those phones unlcoked with u as I don't trust anybody else and don't know anyone who comes close to doing as good a job as u. those other 6 phones are for friends. But i need to know asap how you can tell if it's unlockable b4 they are bought which is going to be in the next coupla days if not sooner. Thnx

phones with 11-05 build date are 80% unlockable is what he said based on his 1 of 5 being able to be unlocked. we will have to wait and see a few more days.

A little late with a reply but been busy with work.

First off, as for buying phones, without contract. Most places you CAN NOT buy without a contract. The only way you can get these phones that cheap is usually with the subsidized contracts. When I say most places, I say Vodafone shops, big stores like Yodabashi camera, Bic Camera, and places like that. Most small shops as well will not sell either.

I know a couple of folks said yes, but the reason why most will not do it is because most stores get huge kickbacks for selling the phones with contracts here, so it isn't profitable even to sell at 70,000 yen sometimes direct, when they can sell for 30,000 to a customer and get 50,000 back from the phone company.

Now there are white rom shops, I have never been to any, but I have seen them online and white roms are sold on Yahoo Japan auctions all the time. All I can say is you're getting f'ing ripped off if you're paying 50,000 or more for these phones and a fool. You can get them for 40,000 to 50,000 from auctions or white rom shops.

Lastly, I don't like Vodafone, at all (I like Sharp's line for Docomo, but I'm a docomo user, so eh) But they are more 3g friendly then Docomo's line, so even if they've updated the firmware and such, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to flash them. If they've flashed 1 out of 5, that means there's a way, just it's changed.

Anyways, yeah, Bic, and a lot of major outlets have the 903, but I think maybe the problem people have is getting the phone without the contract, yeah you can buy them, but Vodafone slaps you with a 15,000 cancel fee within two years now, and if you opt to not join the service, then they raise the price 15,000. That's why it's not easy for your suppliers to get it from readily available sources. There is rumor now that they are going to impose a 3 month block on people who buy, cancel, buy, cancel.

Anyways, if you have any questions again, through 'em my way, I'm fluent in Japanese, and have no problems with my info sources. More a docomo man, but I'll do what I can.
