V635 Not Properly Receiving Voicemail SMS

As most of you know, the way your phone knows if you have a voice mail or not is via SMS. The message center sends an SMS message when you get a voicemail and also sends you an SMS message when you have no more messages.

My problem is, the phone is not properly interpreting the 'No Messages' message. When I receive a new voice mail, it tells me correctly, but the message that there are no unheard messages is received as a normal text message. There is no message body or subject and the From field is shown as Δ@. Yup... that's right. Delta At.

I've added the message center number and it is correct. Other text messages come in OK.

Anyone have any ideas?

My SEEM-edited V551 (to enable Network Select) does the same thing.

There's a disconnect somewhere between Cingular's voicemail system and Motorola's firmware that's causing it; but apparently Cingular branded firmware fixes the issue.

I just live with it as a consequence of having a "hacked" phone with network select...

you gotta seem edit the phone to fix it.

when I had it, I just sucked it up

To clarify, I have not made any modifications to the phone at all. It's as it came out of the box brand new today.

I wouldn't mind flashing to cingular branded firmware, but I don't believe it exists for the v635.

Its not your fault. if you want it fixed you need to modify the firmware.

and yes you are right, there is no cingular FW

I did the seem hack for bit 4 at offset 2 in 0032_0001.

This didn't cut it. Do I need to do an entire firmware update?

Seem 32 offset 2, bit 1, check it. It will remove manual network select but it will fix the vm problem.

So turning that bit ON will fix it.. not leaving it off. I'll give it a shot.

Correct with that bit checked (on) it should fix the problem, at least it did with mine.

It worked. Thank you very much for making it more clear.

I'm having the same issue with my V635. I just don't have any cables/software to make the change.

A quick question for V635 owners:
Just this weekend, my V635 started showing "No Service" and "Emergency Only" very often. I'm lucky to have more than 2 bars at any time now in places where I normally had full signal. Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas why this might abruptly change?

I don't get any SMS for MWI. I get the MWI icon which is sent by a trigger in the voicemail platform
