datakits.co.uk k700i USB Cable Problems

has anyone else purchased a data cable for a Sony Ericcson from datakits? cause i did and i plugged it all in insatlled it all no problems untill i tried to acctually do anything with it and it said "Phone Not Connected" when it clearaly was. All the drivers were installed correctly and the cable was insatlled correctly but still it didnt work 
i am on windows xp with latest service pack and my phone is a k700i (brand new) the cable has SONY ERI K700 KQ-U8A WT048000317 on it if that helps at all. and the software on the cd is "PC Suite"
any ideas????
