The Official RAZR V3c and Mac Thread (iSync, DUN, BT, etc.)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: llarkk

Well i have finally figured out how to sync my contacts and calenders via bluetooth on my G4 Powerbook and CDMA razr v3c (unlocked alltel version). I presume this will work with the Verizon v3c (once its released) after you seem edit to enable OBEX, but this works with no hacks to the phone if you have the alltel version. In the meantime, heres is some info for all the mac users:

1 If you have already paired your v3c with your mac, delete the pairing in
System Preferences > Bluetooth.
2 Quit iSync if it is running and open a new Finder window and browse to /Applications/iSync/
3 Right click on iSync.app and select 'Show Package Contents'
4 Switch Finder to column view (apple-3)
5 Browse to iSync.app : Contents : PlugIns : ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice : Contents : PlugIns : PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin : Contents : Resources : MetaClasses.plist
6 Open MetaClasses.plist in your favorite text editor.
7 Search for E815 and after the final </dict> for the E815 identifier, make room and copy the following:

8 Go back to System Preferences > Bluetooth and click 'Set Up New Device' You will have to enable 'Find Me' on the V3C handset. Once the pairing process continues you will notice you now have the option to sync contacts via iSync.

9 Post here if you have any questions or PM me if you want a modified version of my MetaClasses.plist file.

Once you have paired your unlocked v3c with your mac, to transfer pictures/video/music, on the menubar click the Bluetooth icon and hit browse device.

Then select your phone and hit Browse

You will then see the file structure on your phone:

MP3s go in /audio/
Pictures and wallpapers go in /picture/
Videos go in /video/ etc ..

OPP Works beautifully with my mac and cdma V3c (unlocked alltel version):

Thank you so much llarkk! I've been waiting for someone to help out us Mac folks! Now I've just got to wait on the Verizon RAZR, and hope that its not too hard to do on that interface.

Or better yet, could you explain how you got your Alltel RAZR to work on Verizon's network? I know other threads are available on this, but I'd like to get a consensus on how others did it because I am quite the novice when it comes to hacking cell phones, and I want to make sure that if I choose to take that step, that I fully understand it so I do it right.

Thanks

if the alltel already has obex and OPP enabled.. wont that make it a pice of cake for the razr v3c (verizon) to enable obex and OPP by comparing the seems from the alltel version to the verizon version?

Very good info for us Mac users. Thank you.

Posted by: d4rk MaSta

wow that's great. i hope it will be easy to enable obex on verizon's razr as that is what i am getting and transfering files to my iBook would be a nice treat too, hope some1 finds a way to enable it, nothing 2 do but wait ....

Posted by: Zelf24

If someone can figure out how to unlock the Verizon RAZR and enable OBEX, thats all I would want.

Files needed for Apple iSync 2.1.1

Unzip these files into the specified location listed above in this thread.

Posted by: jmr0991

Yea....im getting the verizon v3c and i have a brand new imac. I would love to be able to transfer with bluetooth allthough i can just do it with a wire. Bluetooth is way cooler. Anyone with any idea how to enable OBEX def. post it so we all can do it so we can transfer with bluetooth!!!

Posted by: iluvthsgam42

thank you! This information will be useful for all use Mac users! Will it be possible for us Mac users to use the phone to connect to the internet using a dial-up connection? I used to be able to with my old VX6000 and my PC laptop - but since i switched to Mac I haven't really tried to. is it still possible with the mac ?

Posted by: sabfg55

4:13:41 PM Error An unexpected exception occured while synchronizing the device.

4:13:41 PM Error Device "SKool Razr" synchronization failed

Any ideas why I am receiving this error when trying to isync? I followed the direction at the top and got the error, unzip the files and tried that and the same thing.

Posted by: sabfg55

same thing with the usb.

Posted by: sabfg55

Figured it out, I had mailing lists setup in my phone which was causing the error when I was trying to sync.

Posted by: Tolly

sorry if this was explained this is all still new to me, but will the v3c allow you to tranfer mp3s and other media through this method, without a seem edit to enable OBEX?

and for the record, are there any verizon phones that don't need a pc to enable OBEX?

Posted by: scubamark

llaark ,
thanks for the info.

Posted by: MasterTLT

I updated with the new plist and add the bluetooth device just fine (says iSync is enabled) but nothing shows up in iSync when you select add device. I've tried everything I can think of (reinstall isync, delete preferences, etc), anything clue what I'm doing wrong?

Posted by: k.double

or the necessary files can be found here:

Posted by: diegosalinas

If anyone in the San Francisco has knowledge to enable OBEX on an e815 and has done it themselves successfully, please PM me. I know this is a razr thread but i am also a mac user so am really lost on what to do to enable OBEX on my moto e815. Any kind soul that wants to help me, I'll bring you some beer.

I am afraid to try it on my own and totally screw up my phone.

Posted by: huberc

Just picked up my razr from the VZW store after cancelling my order online. This is what i've found so far using the bluetooth connection:

I can xfer MP3's and use them as ringtones, pictures for wallpaper.

The bluetooth control panel states that it supports OBEX and DUN. I haven't tried DUN with EVDO since I don't live within the EVDO coverage area. I work in an area with EVDO, so i can try it tomorrow.

Also, can somone post the login password to use for EVDO and 1xRTT? I would like to try it.

llark.. im using a powerbook g4 and would like if you can e mail me your modified metaclasses file please? do i just copy and paste what you modified as shown above? do i add it after where it says
"com.motorola. E815"
the next line after that says
"com.motorola V60i"

so if i am understanding correctly, you want us to add what you posted above b/w the motorola e815 line and the v60i line?
is that correct?

thanks in advance... Hal (earman67@nyc.rr.com)

Awesome indeed. Can't wait to try it out on my PowerBook!

Make it easy on yourself and download the files attached in this thread and unzip to the appropriate directory within iSync.app. The location is also listed in this thread.

Same. Looks like it may work. As soon as I get my phone i'll post the PowerBook results

Ok, do I need to do this to sync the address book contacts? or for all bluetooth connectivity? It seems some of the connectivity is working out of the box, so what will this hack do that I couldnt do without it?

This will allow you to sync contacts/calendars via the Apple OSX 10.4.3 iSync application. No need to retype your phone numbers once you maintain a database of contacts on your Mac. When you get a new phone that has iSync support, simply pair it via bluetooth and run iSync to copy all contacts to the phone. Since the V3c is so new, apple has not included support for this phone in the latest version of iSync. I developed a way to bypass the 'stock' iSync support list and include V3c compatibility. Out of the box the Mac iSync 2.1.1 (latest version) does not support bt transfers of contacts/calendars.

workings amazingly well, this was a make it or break it for me.. definite thumbs up

Yes. As instructed on the first page of this thread, right click on iSync.app, click show package contents, navigate to the following folder, and unzip these files.

iSync.app : Contents : PlugIns : ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice : Contents : PlugIns : PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin : Contents : Resources

I set it up and got it to sync but I'm experiencing an odd problem. I had a few contacts that showed up twice. When I delete one, they both get deleted. And then sometimes, when I delete one, the contact before it now shows up twice. Is anyone else experiencing this? My address book in OS X looks fine.

Posted by: NeoMike

Is this how you installed it?

right click on iSync.app, click show package contents, navigate to the following folder, and unzip these files.

Consider using OnSync for the contact syncing. Works better in this area than does iSync.

Possibly an extra space in the name or other character difference. I suggest removing the device from isync history, and since everything is setup appropriately on the mac, re-ad it and choose the option to erase the phone first before sync. See if this helps.

It works, downloaded the file and it worked on my G4 PB...YES!!!!
Was able to use BT to transfer pics I sent to mobile17. Next step I'm gonna try ringtones.
Thanks llarkk.

Today I have ordered a V3c thanks in part to this thread. I am a Mac user and am very tired of not being able to sync up my Verizon phone with my iMac and transfer files. Full Obex and bluetooth seems like the solution I’ve been waiting for. I have a few questions before my phone arrives…
My Mac OS is X2 point something or other. Will I have to upgrade my Mac OS to X4 in order to find the proper iSync that will connect with the Razr or can I use my existing iSync in my older OS? I know that I have to get a bluetooth dongle, should I get the Apple BT dongle or can I get any one that’s mac compatible?
I am very interested in backing up my phone’s contact list and phone numbers to my Mac. Has anyone here been able to accomplish this? Is On sync the answer to contact transfer?
Can’t wait for the little grey monster to arrive and thanks again for the effort you’ve all put in for us Mac/Verizon users.

This hint will only work with Mac OSX 10.4.3 running iSync 2.1.1. Id recommend a d-link usb BT adapter. Goodluck!

sometimes this happens to me too, but more often than not it works as designed. try deleting the file from within the phone itself by selecting the file hit the options button then delete. or you can also try disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth file browser. is it one particular file you are having an issue with, multiple files, or all files?

For those that dont feel comfortable with following the steps in this thread or cannot get iSync working with their V3c, below is a modified version of my iSync 2.1.1 application including V3c RAZR support. Be sure to backup your iSync by zipping it or copying it to another folder. Then unzip the following file and move the iSync.app to your /Applications folder. Once done, re-pair your BT device and run iSync. Add device in iSync and your V3c should be supported!

Any progress on getting DUN to work on OS X 10.4. I've searched around and have not seen anything very difinitive for the verizon v3c...ive seem spotty things about the Altell razr, but my settings from my v710 dont work. Ideas?

Question: I did the hack and all the contacts were transferred fine...but the calendar isnt transferred. Is this just happening to me?

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Posted by: SilverstoneTTL

if your mac has bluetooth built in like mine, you should see the little logo in the upper right.

click on it and select browse device (you have to search for it if its not there) then you can connect to the phone and will see the folders in it for pictures, etc.

Posted by: carhappykid

Transfered pics via BT from the mac with send file. Clicked on the BT icon in the menu bar, scroll down to send file. Sent file, it came up as file not sent but when I checked my wallpapers it was there. I had the same issue with my S56 when I was with that other carrier.....I will download a pic of my phone.....

Are you trying to avoid using BT? B/C its a simple drag and drop with bt.

No, I said via USB, my computer doesn't have Bluetooth.

Posted by: Rezon

Does anyone know the Wallpaper size for the phone? I tried uploading full desktop backgrounds in jpg format to to the pictures folder and they wouldn't show up on the phone Any help is greatly appreciated!

Posted by: Earman67

thanks for the info everyone..

Posted by: SilverstoneTTL

Rezon- I had the same problem so I just set the pics to 1024x768 and lowered the quality in Photoshop to get the file size down.

Posted by: Rezon

Thanks Silverstone, I'll give that a go

EDIT: Thanks, that worked!

Tip: Those who want to make their own ringtones should download Audacity for MAC OS X. It's a free audio editing tool and it easily helped me crop my MP3's and add fade outs for some great quality ringtones. Hope that helps.

my initial sync was fine, but subsequent syncs led to 'conflicts' that i just can't make go away. before i got the v3c, i had a treo and was using missingsync, and it seems that those settings are what are causing the conflicts. i've deleted everything palm and missing sync from my computer, and i think i've narrowed down the problem to the 'syncdevices' folder in library>application support. i'm just not sure what i need to delete in there to make this problem go away (deleting all makes it so isync can't even find the device). any thoughts on what to delete?

Posted by: fincher

176x220 is the screen dimension but I am not sure how its affected by the Verizon UI. Its the same screen size as the v710 and E815. I create and use 176x220.

in case anyone has this same problem, i think i figured it out. quit isync, delete out (or rename) the whole 'local' folder in user>library>application support>syncservices, delete/unpair the device with the computer, then both master clear and master reset the device, turn it off and then back on, restart your computer then pair back the device as posted in this thread. note that until i did everything in this order, including the turn on / turn off, was i able to have a seamless sync, both address and calendar.

next...
does anyone know how to change the 'red' default color for the verizon phones? i noticed that the shots in this thread of the alltell version has a more pleasing blue color.

1. Any harm in leaving bluetooth on on my phone?? Do most of you turn it off?
2. Where do you add new wallpapers? What size/spec should they be?
3. How could you charge your phone via your mac? Via bluetooth?

I'm definitely seeing a lot of anomolies, though I am pleased to at least have gotten the bulk of my numbers into the phone from Address Book.

Phone asks for a password to do the master clear and reset -- anyone know the Verizon default password? I tried my phone number, last 4 digits of phone number and 1234.

thanks

The first time I plugged it in, didn't seem to charge. It did the second time - I think I may have just had a full battery the first time.

All I did between was try to get bluetooth and iSync working. For any other noobs out there, it appears you will need iSync 2.1 - that's for Tiger. I'm still on 10.3.9 and iSync 1.5 - does not have the phone configuration profiles to edit. Does not recognize the V3c on the cable or bluetooth.

However, the bluetooth works great for files - very easy to move. And somebody else recommended Audacity for editing files - great app, Ringtones are easy to manufacture.

If anybody knows how to get iSync 1.5 hooked up with the V3c, please let me know!

1. i leave mine on all the time. bt times out and goes into powersave mode on its own.
2. wallpapers go in /pictures read the first part of this thread. 176x220 jpg/bmp
3. charge it via a powered usb port and a mini-usb cable. wireless power over bluetooth does not exist.

also, is it possible to do seem edits on a mac like the XP folks are doing. i wanna change the internal and external banners when i get mine, but i wanna see if it's possible on my mac.

thanks

I'm wondering the same think cantcme is: are mac users left out in the cold with regards to seem editing? Are there no programs that we can use to customize our phones?

I'm on 10.4.3 on a 15-inch aluminum PowerBook and have modified iSync so I can sync my phone over Bluetooth and USB. But the phone won't charge off either of the USB ports. I've tried two cables. Any thoughts on why this isn't working for me?

I've got the 15-inch PowerBook, but am on 10.3.9. First time I plugged it in, did not give me the charge message. Second time (a couple hours later), it did. However, I'm not fully conviced that it really is charging - I left it plugged in all night and this morning it only had 3 out of the 4 pips in the battery indicator...

thanks for the password.

And yeah, those banners really suck. Is it possible to get rid of that stupid Vcast ad that shows up when powering the phone up/down?

Might be worth it to borrow a friend's PC to perform these operations if there's no comprehensive Mac solution.

i am almost positive you need a PC to do any seem editing.

is it complicated, just changing the color of the red banner? (compared to making this phone work with isync by following the directions in this thread). i realize red is verizon's color, but, and not to sound too particular but i am, red has to be the most clashing color with a metallic black/silver phone. obviously this phone sells on its looks, so i don't know why they picked that color, especially since i've seen more pleasing colors (greyish blue) on their lesser phones.

i have g4 ibook running 10.3.9 without bluetooth. can i j ust buy a generic bluetooth dongle and then just drag mp3s and jpgs over to my phone?

or will i need software or isync or drivers etc.? can i use the dongle on both a mac and pc?

So had everything working great then out of the blue the calendar stopped sync'ing (getting error msg when running iSync). Contacts sync, file transfer still work. did the following:
(1) replaced the MetaClasses.plist again within iSync package contents (with the file earlier in the thread)
(2) Master reset and master clear of cell phone
(3) delete of "local" folder within Syncservices in home directory
(4) deleted and re-paired the Razr BT connect quite a few times (and deleted device from iSync).

Anything else I can try to restore the calendar functionality?

Thanks!

Just got my Verizon RAZR V3c by FedEx today (ordered online upgrade from their website).

Dying to iSync to my Address Book and iCal.

Mac OS X 4.3, Bluetooth Keyboard and Palm Tungsten T5 both already working via BT just fine.

Put the RAZR in "Find Me" mode and run Bluetooth Setup Assistant. Nothing found.

Ideas, thoughts and suggestions welcome! Happy to do any legwork/research necessary, will share results with all...

TIA,

Doug

You have to modify iSync (see instructions at the top of the thread) or install a pre-modified version (again, earlier in the thread). I'm running 10.4, but don't have BT. I got the phone to sync via USB, but had some problems with duplicate address book entries. I haven't tried the full phone reset recommended in this post, but may try it and report back. If I'm able to get a consistent address/iCal sync, I'll be happy.

Question: for those of us w/o BT, is there a way to move photos, sounds, etc via USB?

i had same problem (see thread) and it was the turning off of the phone and turning it back on, that fixed the problem.

Yep, downloaded the modified iSync package and substituted it for mine. No difference... the RAZR is not detected during a BT new device scan.

I'll be checking with both Verizon and Apple today. I'm suspecting Verizon did something to disable this in the phone - further suspect Apple's advertised support of BT syncing of the RAZR may not include Verizon phones.

No use in checking with Apple as they do not officially support the v3c. If the mac wont recognize the phone via bt at all then it sounds like a hardware issue with the v3c. Do you have a bt headset to test paring with the v3c? If not id suggest going into the vzw store and see if you can test a bt headset there and/or ask for a replacement phone.

I'm using a Motorola HS810 BT headset (had it already from my v710) with the RAZR and it works fine.

Apple's supported device page (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html) lists the RAZR V3 but not V3c. Curious.

So, BT is working okay separately with the RAZR/Headset and also on the computer with BT Keyboard and Palm, but computer does not see RAZR during Setup Bluetooth Device scan (yes, I'm using the 60sec Find Me menu on the RAZR BT menu). I tried setup Mobile Phone and also setup All Devices, nothing found with either setting.

Yes the v3c is the cdma version the v3 is the gsm version. The v3c is so new apple has not yet implemented support for it, but the bluetooth data exchange schema is the same for most newer motorola phones. Thus, i was able to use existing bt profiles to add support for the v3c. I then started this thread for those that have been able to BT pair their phone but w/o iSync support.

One more suggestion. If this doesnt work I would get a replacement phone from verizon.

Delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.bluetooth.plist and ~/Library/Prefernces/com.apple.bluetoothfileexchange.plist where ~ is your home directory. Then delete all entrys from your phones bluetooth device history. Once done, reboot your machine. Turn off all other BT devices and/or move them far enough from your machine so they are out of BT range. Then turn BT on on your phone then turn on find me. Try the pairing procedure in OSX via systpref->bt->set up new device then and select Mobile Phone. Hopefully it will find your phone. Are you using a Mac with factory bluetooth? Which model/specs?

Well, using your modified iSync and USB, I've been able to get Address Book and iCal to sync quite well. The only issue with contacts is that I have a friend with an accent in her name and the phone keeps making duplicates of her entry. Other than that, it's been quite smooth. You just have to power the phone off and on between syncs.

I did discover one feature, which is that adding an alarm to a calendar entry on the V3C will carry back over on syncing, adding a second notification to the iCal entry if it had one before. This is interesting b/c there's no way in iCal normally to add a second notification to an event.

Unfortunately, though, the comments in iCal and Address Book entries do not carry over to the phone.

Why arent you using bluetooth? Forget usb! You should remove the accent from your friends name or is it necessary to differentiate his/her name from another friend with the exact same name minus the accent? The phone's system was designed for the english language which has no accents so this issue is understandable. Power off and on? I dont with bluetooth. I have my powerbook set up to automatically iSync calendars/contacts 3 times daily via bt. I sometimes dont even hear the beep sound it makes when it syncs and i check the logs and its usually successful. It sometimes doesnt sync when the phone is too far from the laptop.

How are you able to add two alarms to an event? If you synced the phone via iSync and the iCal event had an alarm, it should send the event to the phone including the alarm option, and vice versa. Did this event already exist in both locations before syncing? Adding alarms to events via my phone or through ical sync properly for me.

I have not been at home to try this yet, but will tonight. I have a Power Mac G5 tower (dual 2.7) and a DLink BL120 (?) usb BT adapter (which works fine with my Apple BT Keyboard and Palm Tungsten T5).

Thanks :-)

I have the RAZR on Verizon and a 15" Powerbook running OS 10.4.3 and iSync 2.1.1

I followed the directions of placing the new iSync into the Aplications folder and turned off/on the phone and Powerbookfolder and Sync worked great! Thanks!

But then on my second Sync, I recieved and error message that the Sync couldn't occur. I powered off/on the phone only, and the sync worked fine.

The only problem I am having is with the calendar. Not all calendar items are picked up, but I have noticed that if an events does NOT have a time but is an "all day event" (eg most birthdays) that item does not sync. Aside from that problem, all is good.

So thankful for this posting! I can sync my phone to my Powerbook finally! I despise Verizon for crippling the phone, but they have the best coverage. Thanks for the fix!!!

You are welcome. Glad i could figure it out soon enough. Was going to give up the phone if it didnt support this feature.

I have many all-day events in ical that sync fine on my v3c. On my phone rather than showing a time it shows a small dot next to it representing all-day. Be sure in isync to click on your phone icon and check to make sure sync all calendars is on. I have the birthday calender enabled and all those events are all-day and they sync fine.

Should have gotten the apple internal bluetooth module on a highend powermac like the dual 2.7! Could have something to do with this issue.

Could be... they don't sell the PowerMac G5 in Apple Stores with BT preinstalled.... it's "build-to-order" they told me at the time... or I would have gotten it...

Weird -- my all-day events show as starting at 12:00 am and going until 11:59 pm. Maybe when I get a BT module it'll work better (I'm on USB).

And yeah, thanks again for figuring all this out. You've saved me HOURS of tedious address book entry.

Dougforman, were you able to resolve your bluetooth/isync issue? I will also be using a usb/bluetooth adapter. I am considering getting the V3c from verizon, but I want to know my chances of getting the bluetooth to sync with my mac or palm TX.

The isync fix worked perfectly on my PB. thanks.

I've read somewhere that the Verizon software on the V3c sucks.

I live overseas and I can't really uses some of their features anyways.

How can i get the Motorola's original software for the V3c?

thanks guys

Has anyone been able to make the bluetooth sync work with the Verizon version of the phone (not alltel)? I have been attempting to sync my palm TX with the V3c, but I am prompted for a pin. I enter the pin that the manual suggests (0000) and also last four digits of my phone #, but I am told the pin is not valid. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Yes, it works fine for everyone including me (Verizon V3c). You might have an issue with something else..

Goto macupdate and search for ringtone chopshop.
It is free works perfectly and allows you to send the ringtone by sms or email it to yourself then bluetooth send it

Yes, I can discover and browse files/folders using BT and the D-Link DBT-120 USB/BT adapter (on my G5 Tower). Not sure what changed from my initial posts, it just started working...

iSync worked once, now fails after appearing to read the phone, then send changes: "The connection was lost while sending some changes to the device"

I bought an Apple BT kit for my G5 Tower, will install it and see if it changes anything. (doubt it...)

Follow up to this post. iSync seems to work fine with CONTACTS (only) but fails the sync with CONTACTS & CALENDARS or CALENDARS alone. So it seems to have to do with iCal...

Did you try powering the phone down and then back up between syncs?

Yep, first thing I tried.

Also tried refreshing iCal dates, changing the calendars being sync'd to the phone (including ALL), trying to determine if the problem was in one specific calendar.

Also tried "Reset Device" in iSync and allow a complete re-sync. Nope.

Not solved yet.

Posted by: bperkins

Just received mine. Added the code to iSync and it worked perfectly. Loaded all of my contacts (381). Did not load iCal items. I was also able to transfer mp3 ringtones with ease. Hate the VZW GUI, or at least not having the option to change.

had a different experience with the verizon v3c. if it still wont sync, after you pair, launch the modified isync.app file and click devices->add new device. it should now see that your v3c had isync support.

Yes, to clarify and summarize previous messages, BT iSync works fine for me for CONTACTS (Address Book) but not for CALENDAR (iCal) on my verizon v3c.

Forget BT for a moment. I just got a V3c(verizon) and connected it via USB cable to my Mac. Neither "BitPim" or "DataPilot" would recongnize the phone.

Am I doing something wrong?

"DataPilot" did have it on the list of phones in the prefs but "BitPim" did not.

I don't have Bluetooth at the moment so I'd like to transfer my ringtones and pic's via the USB cable.

ummm

what is datapilot?

i'm not a total noob about this stuff, i know about bitpim, never used it but i know about it.

also, can i replace my outside LCD image (verizon.gif) with bitpim for mac? or any program for that matter?

now i just want to see if this will work.

k thanks,

bitpim worked fine with my phone. I don't know how far you've gotten it to work, so i'll just list a summary of what i did.

I plugged the usb cable straight into the computer (rather than the keyboard), and when i launched bitpim, i chose "other CDMA phone", browsed the COM ports, and chose the "USBmodem" one. Then i hit OK and it launched a new window.

Bitpim then launched some window, and i hit "view" and went to "view filesystem". Then it said "reading phone" or something for about 30 seconds, and it launched the filesystem.

went to "mobile", control+clicked on "verizon.gif" and overwrote it with my own "verizon.gif". Everyone says to restart the phone, but my image was already there when i opened it, i restarted it anyway though.

I haven't tried replacing my own sounds or images yet, i'll give it a shot in a minute.

Posted by: PeterKG

Hi cantcme,

I'm very interested in your progress. Where did you download bitman for the Mac? Which Verizon Gif were you successful in removing? Was it the outside our inside banners? When you said you replaced with your own, did you have to make your own? Please let us know what else you are able to do. Thanks!

Posted by: eclipse525

i tried what you did and all I keep getting is the following...

"22:17:53.798 Other CDMA Phone: No response to AT+GMM
22:17:56.805 Other CDMA Phone: No response to setting QCDMG mode
22:17:59.810 /dev/cu.usbserial0: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read

22:18:06.840 /dev/cu.usbserial0: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read

Any clues?

Posted by: cantcme

sorry for such a vague summary. i had to leave.

I actually searched google for "bitpim for mac" and it gave me a link to versiontracker (or macupdates... dont remember).

but i did replace the image that shows on the OUTSIDE when the flip is open (usually a verizon logo), with an image that i resized to 96 x 80 in photoshop.

I actually followed all of the directions that were given for windows, and it worked. Try following the tutorial posted here.

if anyone has questions, i'll do my best to answer them

peace

Posted by: linda55

AMAZING!
your helpful advice led me to get rid of that verizon logo on the top of the phone when it's flipped open... now...
I really want to erase all of the "locked" images and cruddy ringtones that are filling up the phone memory. How do i do this?
I am using OS X 10.3.9

Posted by: bmasar

has anyone figured out:

1) vib & ring
2) replacing the red bars
3) and does anyone else hear their own voice in the earpiece sometimes?

Posted by: linda55

I SECOND THAT MOTION!
those red bars are so ugly
can anyone help us OS X users trying to:

1) vib & ring
2) replacing the red bars
3) and does anyone else hear their own voice in the earpiece sometimes?
4) erase all of the "locked" images that are filling up the phone memory
5) erase the "locked" cruddy ringtones that are filling up the phone memory

The answer to number 3) is YES, i hear myself. I like that feature personally, but if you don't, I'm not sure there is a way to get rid of it.

I have already used BitPim to replace the terrible verizon logo that displays on the outside of the phone when it is open (someone tells you how earlier in this thread).

Posted by: cantcme

i dont know about erasing stock files, but i do know that i hear myself in the earpiece, and i like it.

But yes, us mac users need help with vib & ring.

Posted by: PeterKG

We also need to know how to remove the Verizon Banners on both displays.

Posted by: linda55

I read on motomodders.net that motorola knows about the vib+ring lack and will patch it in a software update in Jan. Also, the fact that the inbox does not say how many messages are in it will also allegedly be fixed by this patch. However, I bet they will take away the OBEX they accidentally gave us.

So, to replace the startup and shutdown images using bitpim (google it):

>in order for bitpim to detect your phone you have to connect it via usb, go to the prefrences menu, set phone type as "other CDMA phone", browse com ports and select the "motorola USB modem" or closest match

make your own gifs that are 176x220, name them customer_opening.gif, and customer_closing.gif

use bitpim to browse the phone's file directory (in the view menu select "view filesystem") (all this stuff is described earlier in this thread)

drag em' to this folder: a/motorola/shared/picture

to change the image on outer screen when phone is open:
go to the folder called 'mobile' and overwrite (control-click) the file named verizon.gif with you own gif of the same name (size: 96x80)

Sorry for the novice question, but is this an update that would occur over the air, or would you have to bring your phone to Verizon to have OBEX f'ed up for you? I think a lot of us would happily skip the update to keep OBEX.

Attention all fellow noobs and totally non-technical types who have the V3c and a Mac and are thinking about trying to enable your computer and phone to make full use of the OBEX capabilities but are scared to death to try. Thanks to llarkk and k.double it is possible..and fairly easy to backup your phone directory onto your Mac, upload your calendar (even Palm desktop calendar from your Mac to your V3c) and up and download ringtones, pix etc.. Here are three reasons to do so:
1-All of these OBEX functions give your phone added dimension that can be quite useful
2-For years the microsoft/verizon agreement to not allow any non-windows people the ability to use mobile phone tools thus making us Mac users second class consumers..even though we pay as much for our phone service as windows users
3-If I can do it...YOU ALL CAN DO IT!!!
Thanks again to llarkk and k.double and all the others who have addressed this issue. Hats off to all of you!!!!!

There is no way to know exactly what the update will include, verizon probably doesn't even admit the OBEX mistake, but may patch it. Also, the mac minority may be the only ones able to get this feature, since i doubt Verizon even thought about mac users when they crippled the phone.

THE FINAL FRONTIER: getting rid of or replacing the red strips at the top and bottom of the internal screen, aka: modifying the skin. There is alot of talk about doing this for the V3, and on PCs, but we are yet to see someone really break down step by step how to modify (even slightly) the skin of the V3c on OS X (mainly the ugly red bars!- sorry im a broken record, i just think they are an eyesore)

Posted by: mindless_chaos

Ok, I have a V3, Don't have quite the problem with my razr as every one with verizon, But a friend of mine does lol, he has verizon and a v3c. I Have been hacking everything I can on my V3 for a while, got that down. Now, I want to find the seem that will enable obex in the V3c. seems like no one has found it yet cuz i can't find an answer any where. I can find it easy BUT, i would need copies of all the seems from an unhacked V3c with obex disabled, and one unhacked with the obex enabled. If any one can use motokit or something similar, to pull all the seems off at once, zip em and send em to me, Ill get to work right away. I would perfer both phones to be verison, so there wont be as many diferences in seems, as I will be comparing them to find the seem that controls obex. As well I am sure I will find many other useful seems in the process. HOOK IT UP!!!! Just PM me.

Is there anyway in the address book/isync to tell the phone which order the speed dial list should go in?

Successfully changed the startup/shutdown gifs, but am still hearing that retarded sound when the phone starts up and shuts down.
Any way yet to overwrite that sound in bitpim?

offset 6a/bit 0 controls obex, just like the e815.

it is seem 2742, thanks to woffordk

iSync and address book offer no such option that I could see, but if you go into contacts:speed dials on the phone it's pretty easy to move entries around. I only bothered with speed dials 1-9, though.

Posted by: anodyne

onsync (google it) will let you move speed dials for individual numbers. The best part is if you want to move a number to speed dial 2, which is occupied, it will automatically move the entry that is currently in 2. I haven't found a way to do that on the phone.

What do you mean go into contacts: speed dials though? All I've found on the phone is going to an individual number on the phone and editing its speed dial. Is there a way to see the whole list of speed dial entries (and then presumably move them around)?

hey guys. i just got the phone today...yay obex. anyway, are there are programs for mac to make ringtones?(take MP3's and chop um up??)

Hi llarkk,

I am new to this site, so Hello to everyone. I just did your suggested amendment to my G5 for my newly acquired Razr V3c. Though I was able to send a picture from iPhoto to use as wallpaper on the phone, I had no luck with getting the contacts and calendar iSync options. Thank you for the valuable advice, but might you have any further suggestions? I should admit that I am not at all "computer savvy." Thanks.

Jerry C.

Hi Chadwick,

Please tell us how you did this? Was it done with Bitman?

This is the second time you've asked for "Bitman", which is your first problem. Take a few moments to read the posts and you'll see that the program is called bitpim and can be found quite easily through Google. Again, bitpim, not "Bitman".

Now that we've cleared that up, read the directions in these two very recent posts.

Yes, there is! Go to your main menu, then move to Contacts. The fourth item is "speed dials". It'll show you what contact is in each spot. If you select a contact, it will prompt you to choose a new speed dial spot for that contact. Not a bad interface for moving a few around (say, for assigning the 1-9 turbo dial spots) but beyond that, onsync might be a better tool.

that's perfect, thanks. I feel pretty stupid, the obvious things are beyond my grasp.

Posted by: Tolly

ok, after trying to read through this whole thread i think i have a grasp on everything but im kind of lost in a jumble of info. just a couple questions:

as long as my mac is BT enabled, it sounds like im good to go right?
if i buy a razr in the next week, it will definitely be obex enabled?
it's a simple process to transfer mp3 files to the phone via bluetooth?

also, how do you guys think this matches up to the e815?

Posted by: alhermizi

Dear Mr. Chadwick: thanks for your great solutions. I have sync'd my razr with Address Book and it works perfectly.

However, is there any way to have my AB contacts sent to the phone so they are listed by last name, instead of first name? I have over 300 contacts (all with multiple numbers) and there are obviously many duplicate first names which makes finding a contact difficult.

Your help is appreciated!

I connect my V3c via BitPim. I opened up the filesys.>Motorola>Shared>Ringtones and then I copied some small .MP3 clips I made but for what ever reason they don't show up in the phone. Even if I try to restart the phone. Is there a way to access it and assign them as my ringtones or am I doing something wrong?

Seems, with my previous phone it was easier. BitPim recognized the phone and I went to the ringtone tab and then when i copied my .MP3's, it seem to do it's own conversion. Very easy.

Any help, is appreciated. Thanks!

I have noticed that everyone keeps ignoring the question that a lot of users have: I do not have bluetooth, i want a way to link my phone with the USB and take photos from my phone and place them on my computer and vice versa. I have installed the modified copy of isync, when isync looks for my phone it finds it, yet i can not browse my device. I have been spending hours trying to fix this problem...PLEASE HELP a fellow MAC user!

What phone are you using, which cable and which Mac OS?

I am using a USB cable from my Canon SD200 (connecting straight into the computer), my phone is the Moto V3c, and i am using OX 10.4.3 on a G4 PowerPC.

Please help...

I'm curious to know if you can Isync this phone with a USB cable? Will the procedure listed on this forum work with earlier versions of isync? I have OS 10.3.9. also can you use this phone as modem on the mac? thanks

Posted by: Jerry C

RAZ1121,
You are having better luck than I am. Except for my Mac being a G5, I tried the same thing but could not get iSync to even find the phone. I tried tried llarkk's solution for BT without any luck, then bitpim but wasn't able to set it up properly so that didn't work either. All this is distressing because I really like the look and feel of the razr. If you're hooked on Apple as I am, that's just Maclife.

It just seems that every time this question is asked throughout this entire forum, no one has an aswer/solution for users wanting to transfer data (ie pics, mp3s) with the use of an USB cable. My phone is reconized in iSync (after modication), but i cant get it to actually connect. I love my Razr, i love my mac...i just want to put pictures on my camera and take them off with a USB cable....

hopefully there is help out there.

Well, I'm running OSX(10.3.9) and I have not been able to get iSync to even find the RAZR V3c. I am not using BT but rather connecting it directly via USB. I have been able to access the "file system" within BitPim but again, like I previously posted, I just can't find a way to add/remove ringtones or photos. It would be so much easier if BitPim was able to just detect the phone, instead of going into the file system.

If anyone out there is having better luck, please be so kind as to help out. Thanks!

to remoce a ringtone click and hold control then click on the item you want to delete and select delete if you want to add a new ringtone you could overwrite an exsisting one if the audio folder is empty i can't help you

hey, i know its annoying, but earlier in this thread all of these questions are answered, lets not make eveyone repeat themselves! just start from page 1!

If you have OS X just turn bluetooth on in your phone. then "set up new device" in the bluetooth menu on your mac. Once the devices have found eachother you can go to "browse device" in the bluetooth menu. a file directory will be listed. you can just drag and drop.

I recommend trimming down mp3s to 15 secs in Audacity (free). Also in the preferences menu you can control mp3 compression for when you export. I recommend compressing to 80, to save file space, there is no noticable loss of quality. You can make gifs and jpegs to use as wallpaper etc. the screen size is 176 x 220. you can even load animated gifs to use as caller IDs.

Also, if you correctly install bitpim, you can see the file directory via USB.. i posted step by step on motomodders.net but now i cant find it.

Hello all,

This is a great forum and I appreciate all of the info provided. I just recently got my RAZR. I have one of the newer G4 Powerbook 17 inch and have BT and also the USB.

I have been using Bitpim with my old phone (LG 4500) and have my contacts in there ready to transfer to my new RAZR. What is the best way to go about this?

I am aware that the RAZR phone does not work with Bitpim except for viewing the file system (which I am able to do) and never works with BT.

Thanks in advance!

I just posted a question related to this comment in the forum http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=673967

Which directory "audio" or "ringtones" do I drag the modified midis into? Does it make a difference which one?

This still doesn't answer my question and believe me i have spent HOURS reading this forum. Is there a way to transfer files via USB using a MAC computer. From what i understand you can only view the files with bitpim, not transfer...and everyone keeps say if you connect it with bluetooth then you can transfer the files....BUT how is this done with USB...

thank you for all your help.

just a side note:

this is a free service that will send you any mp3 you want as a ringtone:
http://mobile17.smashsworld.com

Posted by: eleclipper

it does NOT matter where you place your ringtones in ringtone or audio if you place it on ringtone they will get automatically transfered to the audio folder

"7 Search for E815 and after the final </dict> for the E815 identifier, make room and copy the following:"

I DID THIS BY WRITING IN THE INFO. I COULD NOT COPY AND PASTE.

"8 Go back to System Preferences > Bluetooth and click 'Set Up New Device' You will have to enable 'Find Me' on the V3C handset. Once the pairing process continues you will notice you now have the option to sync contacts via iSync."

I DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO SYNC VIA ISYNC.

I AM NOT AN ADVANCED USER AND WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER. I OWN A VERIZON RAZR. I ASSUME IT IS LOCKED.

THANKS.

I need your help. I have tried all the methods on here (the best I could) and I still can not gt my Razr V3c to sync with iSync. What am i doing wrong. Here is what I have done.
1) Copied the old isync into my external HD.
2) Installed the new isync from the downloaded file.
3) paired my phone sucessfully with the computer.
4) opened new isync and I get the same message every time.

"this device is not supported by isync"

Please help!

another quick question --where is the power button for the Razr

Posted by: fincher

For Contacts, use OnSync, the shareware program. No edits to the plist required. Works excellent via BT or USB. You can Browse Device for pictures and ringtones, etc. without editing the plist. I do not use iSync at all and one Mac has the edited plist and one doesn't. iSync, as you found out, does not work with syncing Contacts.
