adobe photoshop. In order to avoid picture distortion, you have to trim or crop pics to fir the right size, not just scale down.

In photoshop, if picture is say 640 x 480 (horizontal), i do things in this order

1. reduce image size from 640 x 480 - > 427 (width) x 320 (height)
now the image is the proper height but too wide so:
2. alter canvas size to 240 (height) x 320 (width) and basically 'chop' the left and right sections of the picture until its 240 x 320, so you lose parts of the picture on the sides but you can now fit it on the phone without any distortion

of course, you don't hae to be smart to realize that not all pictures will work out, especially for cars or whatever that are very horizontally oriented pics. I reject a lot of pics in my collections for wallpapers because the image won't look good if i chop it that much. And if i do have to chop a pic, i try to do it stylistically so it still looks good even if i only see half the image. This applies to cars, objects, ppl, whatever.

Does thatt make any sense?

For T809 users! a Star Trek wallpaper I made. It plays slower on the phone, of course. And it's kinda jumpy because the T809 only plays 15 frames and repeats. I assume D600 users can use this too. Size is 151KB.

Under "Display Settings" you can change the "Info Display" to black (so T-Mobile disappears).
Keep in mind this will really wear down your battery...

You didn't specify what phone you have, but I'm guessing it's the D500 that you want these re-sized for at 176 x 144. Even though this thread is for images 240 x 320, I'll put them here since there isn't a D500 Non-Animated Wallpaper thread around.

Maybe the Moderator can make one and put these in it.

The layout of the images is not going to work for the D600's format since the images are landscapes. Just like most of the cars wallpapers, the aspect ratio don't really work to "fill" the screen with the main image. Portrait images are the easiest ones to re-size for the D600. I'll try, but it's going to take more time to fill the top/bottoms to make it work.

Here's the vista inspired wallpaper. This took me about 2 hours to make. It's not picture but ehh... enjoy.

I noticed that some parts of the wallpaper looks distorted or pixelated. I think it is because the phone is incapable of displaying the colors.

If there are any suggestions please state them. I'm willing to do stuff.

Wow! I absolutely love this wallpaper - top, top work. But i am wondering, how will it wear down the battery that much more? If you have the slider down, so the display turns off, the .gif isn't still running in the background, is it?

Well I was thinking/wanting to get picture of her, like comming rightout from high-end digital camera and processed then post on the internet(Meaning, professionally done by Pro Photographer)...that's what I want. I can see some poorly scaned pics or captured from live tv that I can get those anywhere but I want some HD pic of her. Get the idea? Thx for reply.

humm...a landscape pic is difficult to make one...unless is it ok to cut in half of that car...cus if I resize from wide pic to tall, it would look bad..

Next time shoot a vertical shot of your car instead of a traditional horizontal landscape one.

I reject a lot of landscape photos of cars because they dont look very good when i try to chop them for a phone screen, as mkool has illustrated very well.

i don't know if the animation wears down the battery significantly, just assumed it was using more processing power, etc, etc. and i'm pretty sure the animation stops when the slider is closed - i have 'caught it' stopped when i open and close the phone.
the original animation was for the Sony Ericsson K700 - which could play 20 seconds.. this one is much shorter

but it IS bigger 320x240

i'm thinking of doing a Firefly animated background, but don't know when I'll have time.

I used adobe photoshop to add in some more sky and some extra pavement! It took some "sun" lighting off the pavement but it still looks nice, I think. I also did a lot of that in my previos posts of the Lamborghini's and the Porshce.

I'm glad you didn't notice the fake sky, lol. But then again, it's so small, the small details are probably a blur.

Your image became fat and shortened because instead of resizing and keeping the width and length in RATIO, you resize the width and kept the length the same or you resized the length and kept the width the same.

For instance, if your picture starts out as... 12x24 and you want to resize it so it's smaller.. you would want to make it 3x6 and not 2x6. If you don't want to manually CALCULATE the ratio, just make sure you select the option for your image editting program to do it for you. If your program doesn't have that option then I suggest you find another software.

Using adobe photoshop.. this is the idea:

You see, what I want is a cropped version of the original pic without changing the subject in width or length.... lets say I have a pic of Jessica Simpson...wearing a sexy evening dress and on the web it's size is 1024x768. You want to take a horizontal 1028 x 768 and scale it down to a vertical 240 x 320 pic without losing any of the original picture? That's just about impossible. The guy who fixed your S2000 pic actually extended out the top blue sky and the bottom brown pavement using photoshop paintbrush tricks. I use the same techniques with pics of cars against solid color backgrounds because its easy to acheive.

You want to preserve your jessica simpson pic as much as possible, first shrink the original 1028 x 768 image down as much as possible before you have to crop

So you start with this:

which is a 1028 x 768 image

shrink it down to 427 x 320 (you have your 320 height and proportions are preserved but picture is still too wide)

Now what? since the picture is too wide you must crop it to fit on the phone so you trim the width to 240, here style comes in and you must decide where to crop.

If you crop too far to the left, oops:

and all the way to the right, it looks better but still offcenter

so cropping more in the center produces a better result:

The cropping is important, if you are so determined to save the whole pic and still keep it 240 x 320 you get something like this:

Is that what you want? No i do not think so, it doesn't look very good.

So thats how you convert from a 1028 x 768 to 240 x 320 image with some loss of the original pic. I am sorry if i am talking down or insulting your intelligence with this, but i don't want there to be any confusion in what i'm trying to explain.

Anyways.. I gotta agree with with Ed. It is impossible to not lose anything in a horizontal picture when switching it to a vertical upright picture. I pretty much did what Ed just showed you... with most of my horizontal wallpapers. I end up losing part of the picture one way or another.

In the car picture above, I decreased the size of the picture just enough to fit it into a 240width box. Because the height was smaller than 320, I used photoshop to literally add in some more sky and some more pavement.\

Something like this.. which is like the OVERLY simplified explanation of what I do to make wallpapers, lol. Don't mind the ugly arrows and stuff.. I put this together in like 2 minutes, lol.

I'd put more pictures up on how to do it but I'm kind of in the middle of an essay right now and taking a break, lol.
