Hi I lost my phone, and I do not have insurance. I was wondering if one of my friends reported his phones lost and gave me the new one they send him if there is anyway the insurance people can find out about that? I do not want to get him in trouble...

That's insurance fraud. Once the claim is made, the old phone becomes the insurance company's property. If he then claimed he found the old one, it would have to be sent to them. So even if he got away with lying about the lost phone, it still wouldn't work.

Yes there is a way for them to find out and it is not a good idea. Go check out ebay or stop into an indirect and see if either have cheap refurbs in the store or my store does loaner phones for a couple of months at the most if your upgrade date is not that far away.

once your friend reports his phone lost, the ESN is frozen in the system and will never be activated on any other account.
