Size of 903 screen

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Daemos

I was wondering if anyone had the physical dimensions on the size of the LCD on the 903

Thanks.

Posted by: Amit_amit

I'm not sure but i think that it's 2.4" (inches)
and his resolution is QVGA

Posted by: break-r

yep, its 2.4"

That is diag right?

So it should be a 4:3 screen so if I do a^2+b^2=c^2 and 2.4 = c

I'll have to do it when I have a pen and some paper

And QVGA = 320x240 right?

Posted by: Amit_amit

Every QVGA screen have to be 4:3
320:4=240:3=80
Which means that its 4:3.
I checked on sharp website and yes the 903 screen is 2.4 inches

Posted by: Daemos

2.4" in what respect though? normally it's diagnoally, that sounds pretty small...hmm

That would mean the screen is around 1.922" x 1.442" which isn't all that big to me

Posted by: deadTamago

2.4" is already 1 or 2 size bigger than most phone's displays...
and the QVGA resolution creates a perception of the screen to be even bigger with the contents that can be shown all at once.

but if you're comparing it to a PDA, then yes, it is small.

Posted by: Daemos

I'm comparing it to the Screen of the Nokia 6270, they are the phones I'm debating between right now.

Posted by: totaltoanage

get the nokia then.....hope it has ASV with Aquos Tech.

Posted by: Daemos

well it's just one of the things I'm debating

The 6270 is going to be newer, at a cheaper price. But the camera isn't as good, and it doesn't look as cool (IMO).Has better talk time.

The 903, looks cooler, has a MUCH better camera, I've acctally seen one and held one and it feels solid, but it'll be ~150-200 CND more than the 6270, and lacks GSM850 which rogers uses. Sharp also makes better LCDs.

What is ASV with Aquos Tech?

Posted by: deadTamago

if you're not gonna use WCDMA (3G mode) on the 903SH, at least not in the near future, 6270 is a better buy IMO.
why spend that much extras for features you won't be using!

Posted by: Daemos

Probally not going to use 3G not atleast until rogers catches up, and even then it'll probally will be on a different frequency.

but the Sharp seems to have the better LCD (sharpness) and camera, and it looks slicker.

I've only ever used SE phones for a long time, so which ever os is more like the SE os would be better sharp vs Nokia S40v3. Durability, I'd like this phone to last over a year, maybe 2 if possible, and I want to beable to resell it later, so I can buy another phone (I only expect to make max 1/2 of what I pay for it, after 1 year, if I decide to keep the phone only for a year) So build quality and durability is obviously important.

(obviously the people in the nokia forum said get the 6270, but no one has replied to my other post in this forum)

Not sure how the video/audio players stack up to eachother, the thing I like about the sharp (because I got to use one with a japanese firmware) is that you can put the video to full screen, that's a nice feature

The nokia at expansys.ca is going for under 500CND including shipping (before taxes) and the 903 is going for around 700CND off ebay including everything.

the Nokia also has GSM850, but how much of a difference that makes compared to the 903 I don't know.

Posted by: totaltoanage

thats also true, if you want a wow factor or a budget needed phone. ASV angle super view: can be viewed up to 160 degrees from any angle and still see the same picture from the LCD and not white lighting. Aquos technology is from sharp lcd tvs that have very vivid colors and contrast.

Posted by: Daemos

budget is always needed. Just the size of the budget changes.

I'm just trying to determine which phone gives me the best bang for my buck. The pros of the Sharp, is it def looks better (not that the nokia looks horrible), the sharp LCDs are really crazy, and the camera is better.

However, I've seen nokias last forever, I haven't seen too many sharp phones, acctually the 903 was the first sharp phone I've seen...the nokia is cheaper, and also has GSM850. The OS is probally goign to be better than the Sharp's but I can't determine that right now.

The other features, still need to be compared, like video/audio player, and sound quality.

700 dollars is not a cheap phone, neither is 500 dollars. I'm just trying to determine the best bang for the buck. I guess it would be easier if the 6270 was acctually out so people could compare huh ^_^;

Posted by: kaizoku_san

Geez, I've already told you at work that my 903 gets WAY better signal than my previous two phones which HAD 850. And you live in the same city. So... I really don't see why you keep bringing 850 up, cause it doesn't seem to make a difference here.

And yeah.. 2.4" seems small? Go hold it up to other phones, and you'll see which is smaller.

903sh is totally worth the 600 US u spend on it. or whatever. i love it!

Sharp is IMO better, it`s very stylish, it`s something completly different, not common, that`s important for me, I don`t like to have something that anybody can buy in ordinary GSM shop
Besides, it`s completly japanese phone, quality is highest possible.
I was always using japanese phones (Sony, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, NEC, now Sharp) and never had any problems with them, in my opinion they build quality is far much better than any other phones.

You said that on Nokia forum ppl only said 'buy nokia', did they explain WHY?
Probably no, coz they don`t have any clue what Sharp 903 is...
Don`t ask this kind of people for advice coz it`s worth nothing, they will always say you 'buy this' coz mostly, they were never thinking about anything else.
6270 has nice specs, comparable to 903, can`t say anything good or bad about this phone, maybe except I would never buy this phone coz it`s slider phone and I prefer clamshell phones.
I wouldn`t ever change Panasonic VS3 for this Nokia, yeah sure, Nokia specs are better but so what? VS3 looks so damn good!

Sharp phones are not popular because they are mostly Vodafone or DoCoMo exclusive phones and you can`t buy them easly!
Also it`s not a cheap phone, not many people will buy something they never heard of for quite a lot of money, but that doesn`t mean that Sharp is by any way worse than other brands!

The nokia people have their reasons for choosing nokia over sharp.

I mean sure the sharp looks nicer, but is it as functional? Will it last as long etc, I have all these questions in my mind.

The main reasons though is GSM 850, and it's cheaper

I mean this could be a phone I could be using for a VERY long time (like 2+years) so I want to make sure whichever phone I buy is right, and if I do decide to resell next year and buy another one, I want to make sure it'll be a phone that I can resell and make some money back off it.

I mean the nokia is cool in it's own rights, but being a slider, I don't know how long slider phones and their sliding mechanisms will last. I'll have to do some research, I don't plan to buy until after I'm done my christmas shopping anyways

In terms of the Panasonic VS3 to the 6270, I'd take the 6270 over the VS3 because the looks don't make up for the phone

Posted by: totaltoanage

with the 903 you could take 3.2 MP pictures which is best in market, listen to ipod quality mp3s for at least 5 hours and still have enough charged for whole day, watch computer quality movies at QVGA resolution, play flash files, go online, play QVGA 3d games note that 903 has the fastest cpu and best graphics chip out (exclude PDAs), load .txt, .svgt files, barcode scanner,QR scanner, text scanner, audio recorder, up to 1gb miniSD, LCD remote for mp3s that shows what artist and song you are listening too w/ volume control and 3.5mm headphone adapter, Best and biggest mobile screen on any phone at 2.4" Aquos ASV, pictures can be editted with frames for amusement, JDM and rare phone, customizable startup screen and off screen, AF and Op Zoom for camera.....do i need to go any further? pretty good for a non symbian dont you think.

Posted by: Daemos

agreed Still the lack of GSM850 still looms in my mind, I know somehow it doesn't matter, but it's the principle of it right?

Cept I can't find the guy who was selling them on ebay with the japanese firmware (I heard that one is the best one just because you can theme it, amongst other things) which would mark them to Canada cheap, because duty + taxes on a 700 dollar phone to canada brings it up there (like 21% of taxes and fees )

Posted by: Timsta

there is many ways besides using ebay to buy a 903sh...

Posted by: Daemos

yes I know your store sells them

However the buyer I was looking to buy from, was much cheaper than buying from a webstore.

It was like 600CND + 50 CND shipping, if marked as gift or low value, no duty nor taxes. Pretty good if you ask me Unless if you're willing to price match

However I do see you sell the O2 Mini for a very good price...hmmm....

FOR THE LAST TIME JOE, FORGET THE DAMN 850!! It's NOT the principle.. who cares if it has it or not? The point is the phone gets good signal in our city.

I have a 6270 and i'm getting a 903 i was thinking 900i but i really don't like swivels, angst days of the V70. I'm a photo guy, i like the 3.2mp samples that i've seen around the net...the video playback isn't as good vs the w900i but the colours from the 903 are the best i've seen this side of the globe.
The only Sharp i've seen in person is the 902 from Rex...but after reading and re-reading all the forums, previews, reviews i could on this phone the more i got to like it and without having actually seeing it in person.

I've heard reception is great with this phone but honestly, my calls aren't that important to me and i really don't have to see whose's calling, i usually answer my phone if i want too but what's great is while i'm around town, i can have both a phone, camera (still and video) and MP3 players with me and all in one pocket (the w900i has added FM radio off it's headset)

If you do get this phone, i'd recommend agetting ATP's 1GB (x150) miniSD card because no phone has a fast enough processor for my liking to-date

If you really must have 850 wait for the Nokia N80, it will have a 3mp cam and a better UI for MP3 and video playback as it's a S60 v3 vs the 6270's S40 v3. If cost is an issue when the N80 comes out the price on the 6270 should have also dropped significantly.

This is the Sharp forum. We wouldn't be here if we thought that Nokias were great now innit?

N80 has a 3mp cam but no Auto Focus which makes the pix garbage anyways. 903s is the way to go =D.
