tweaking ringers?

does anybody know how to tweak the ringers you make so that they dont sound terrible because when I make mine the bass overtakes the song if you know what I mean?

Maybe use cool edit pro and use some of the filters it has?

goldwave is shareware, so basically free
tone down the bass manually

I use Audacity, In sound effects, I take the Bass completely out, I can put a whole song on my vx7000 and a guy asked me what kind of stereo I had in my pocket.
