I need to purchase a minisd for my SMT5600 and am debating between the 512mb and the 1gb. I know you can never go wrong with more memory, but my questions is will I need it. What is the time/mb ratio for pocketdivx encoded files? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you take lots of pictures, listen to lots of MP3's, watch videos/movies? I used these questions on myself, and decided to purchase the 1Gb card because I thought I'd have the most flexibility with it.

current rate for the 1GB miniSD is about $80. and $60 for a 512MB at this site:

anyone know any lower prices?!
id like to get a 1GB too, but will probably settle for a 64MB, till my usage and know-how of my new SMT5600 increases.

I got a 512MB miniSD at Fry's (one of their Friday sales) for $34.99. You have to watch closely, but it does happen.

I second newegg. Just bought the RiDATA 512mb card with adapter for $34.

I would recommend staying away from Flash Memory Store.

Not a single positive review.

The also operate under the name Computer Memory Store;

Again, another negative review.

I'm in the same boat as you, and I'm gonna go ahead and get the 512.
A great website is www.erwincomp.com, I have personally purchased a 512 Sandisk MS DUO from them, for my PSP.
They have the 512 MiniSD for $42.99, and the 1GB for $79.99, I believe.
Enjoy!

Well I got a SANDISK 1GB MINI SD CARD for $69.95 - $20.00 Rebate =$49.95 + shipping, after mail-in rebate.
Got it Comp-U-Plus but now they have the same card for $105

Just keep looking for deals on the 1Gig you just may get in on what I got.

By the way here is where I posted that info here http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...83&postcount=12

If I got a 512mb, I'd know one day I'd need more memory. So i got the mini sd 1gb. Works great. Probably your best bet.

I bought the 1GB version, on EBAY over the summer. It was from a reputable seller, who sells them new. (eshopmax)

I paid $55 new, shipped.

I just purchased a Kingston 1GB minisd from ebay for $58.00 shipped. The guy I bought it from was auctioning 20 of them at the time.

bought a 512.
have already maxxed it out.

damned movies.
hahaha ...

Does the 1GB DEFINATELY work? I heard that the phone accepts the card, but still only recognizes 512 max. Can you truly utilize all 1GB of the card?

Yes it does work. The 1Gig card shows up as Size: 968.3 MB and the storage on the SMT 5600 it self shows up as Size: 28.0 MB

Here's a screen cap of my SMT5600 with the 1GB SD Card plugged in.... you can see it definately recognizes more than 512.

thanks guys.....puts to rest the rumors that have been passed on to me.....on my way to buy one now!!!!

Posted by: MikeNoecker

Got myself a 512MB off EBAY $42 shipped.... In the retail packaging, which is a rarity anymore. Just makes me feel a little safer that way.... Thanks for all your help guys!!!!

Posted by: pa555

Why did you change your mind on getting the 1Gig card?

Posted by: MikeNoecker

I did the math, and 1GB was just overkill for me.... I usually have 40 or 50 or so mp3's on my phone at a time and figured the extra $20-$30 wasn't worth it for me to go with the 1GB.............

Posted by: pa555

I didn't really need the 1Gig, but thought of it like a hard drive. You can never have too much. LOL

Best of luck with your phone & card....
