SMT5600 headset jack proprietary?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have discovered the joys of playing MP3 from my Cingular SMT5600 (1GB miniSD). It appears that the only output for stereo music is the OEM supplied hardwired headset, which is really OK for when I am walking around. The functional interface to allow you to answer the phone when you play music is a very nice feature.

What I'd like to know is whether anyone sells an adapter to pipe the music from my SMT5600 to my car via FM transmitter, such as is so common for most every MP3 playing device out there via the standard 2.5 mm jack. The headset jack appears to be proprietary, but is there someone who sells an adapter to get a standard 2.5 mm headphone jack to work with say noise cancelling headsets, etc?

I have tried search on this forum and did not find anything.

All input appreciated!

Chris

My recently obtained Audiovox 5600 has the same issue - won't work well with Plantronics MX150 wired single headset, which used to work great with my Sprint Samsung i500, providing great noise reduction while driving, etc. Now, with the 5600, the sound through the Plantronics is not good at all.

Any suggestions on earpieces which work well with noise reduction, or a jack like mentioned above which would enable "normal" operation of otherwise good headsets?

i don't believe the smt5600 jack to be properietary, the size is standars 2.5mm but the layout and distance between the "rings" (L,R,G) is different from conventionnal 2.5mm jack, to broadcask over the radio, one would need a 2.5 to 3.5 and a emiter, both availlable from Ebay. I have tried many headphones but settled for a mod one, the oem set couple with different earbud.

May I ask, how did you go about changing the earbuds on the headphones?

I bought an adapter at the local parts store for 1.99.

Just search for 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo adapter. The brand I bought was Philmore. If you have a Fry's Electronics, that is where I got mine.

Presumably there is another ring/conductor for the microphone. Isn't there the possibility of shorting the mic input if the wrong adapter is used?

Or is this just one of those mostly theoretical "non problems?"

you can go to radioshack and buy a mono 2.5 to 3.5mm and the sound will come out stereo. i also baught a sliptter so it splits the 3.5mm jack into 2 rca outputs so i can listen to music on my suround sound system.

I got an adapter that lets me come out of the headphone jack of the phone to a 3.5mm (standard 1/8" headphone) female end. I plugged a stereo 1/8" cable into it and the other end into my external PC speaker system and it played beautifully, but not in stereo. So I got a mono 1/8" to stereo 1/8" female to try and get the sound t ocome out of both speakers. IT worked but the volume level decreased greatly and the sound was no where near as crisp with the full spectrum of sound.

My question is did you mean mono on both ends mono 2.5 female to mono 3.5 female and then plug something like my stereo 1/8" cable into the end and then to the speaker system or car stereo aux input?

I want to be able to play the mp3 player through my car stereo speakers, in stereo like an ipod or etc...

What exactly do I need to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance for any help,

BB

These adaptors will work for the 5600 for mono 2.5mm headsets or stereo 3.5mm headphones/speakers:

Anyone found a stereo to stereo 2.5mm adaptor that will allow the use of "standard" stereo headsets with the 5600?

any stereo 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor will work. I bought 3 online from cablenbits.com, I bought 2 from radio shack, all work.
