where to buy i-mate SP5?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mrbofus

I live in California and would like to buy the i-mate SP5. However, all the online retailers seem to be out of the SP5, and only have the SP5m in stock. Additionally, most places seem to be charging close to $600US for the phone. I was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable place to buy the i-mate SP5 for a good price. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

UPDATE: So I found a place in the US that sells a pre-order i-mate SP5 for $499.99 [ http://www.dweiniger.com/catalog/pr...products_id=102 ] but am not sure how reputable they are. Expansys sells the i-mate SP5 for 354.95GBP, which works out to about $608. Does anyone know of any other vendors or importers in the US that sell the i-mate SP5 for $500 or less that is reputable? Thanks in advance!

You can trust MMB.

Yea I have bought from them aswell, and got my item asap. Though that item has been in pre-order for a loong time now. From what I heard hardly any units have been shipped into the U.S. so you could be waiting for a long time, maybe even till January at this rate :-\
Either way theres already like 2 threads with the same topic so go take a look and read up as your not the only one looking for it lol.

Not only can you trust MMB, i'd say his support to forum members is just ABSOLUTELY top notch!

This is what i just got via email, remember this was my first time dealing with him ...

Hi "rip"
I was reading through the smartphone forum, and saw that you lost money on my refund.
Please let me know what it cost you and I will gladly reimburse you through paypal.

This was after a FULL USD refund; i lost money on the exchange rate, which is NOT within his control. I declined his offer; he is after all not only offering good prices but he is trying to run a business, something which i fully understand and i personally will never take advantage of someone's generousity.

Now, how is that an example of trust and excellent customer support?! <simply amazing>

Yea MMB is great, too bad expansys aint lol. I like how the expected delivery went from 8 in stock to all the way to to Jan./2006 for the next shipment for the Qtek 8310 version. Man what the hell?? I'm about to like try and order from the UK part of the site eventually lol.

I, too, have had nothing but positive experiences with him. He has had issues getting the SP5, as has every other place I've seen. So, to make up for the length of time it's been since I ordered/paid, he offered a full refund, or a price reduction of $20. I didn't want either, and I told him so. Nevertheless, he still refunded $20.

Clearly, it's out of his control---this nasty lack of SP5s. I didn't expect anything other than delivery of the product when he has stock. I've never had an experience like this in the past with any vendor.

i live in california in fresno
You can trust this guy David AKa MMB from personal experience very reputable seller, his price the best he has the lowest price. i dont know though if his price will stay at 499 when he WILL HAVE them in stock ( that happen before when he has the qtek 9100 pre order at 679$ then his supplier changed the price after that).. those prices you see like 600 USD people have them in stock , so when they have them in stock thEy control the price, on Ebay for example SP5 sold yesterday at 650 usd and its not in USA was in UK.

Most of my phones for the last for or five years have been phones that are not first released in the U.S. This being the case, I don't think too much about delays, etc.

Sure, I'd like to have it NOW. But I am still satisfied with my other handset.

Anyone out there currently selling hte SP5 (not sp5m)??

Posted by: MadMonkeyBoy

SP5
nobody has them, when they are shipped from i-mate, everyone will have them at the same time.
I will be the lowest. $499
I am not looking to make much on these, I like the touch screen better myself,
but movies are incedible 320x240 on the smaller size screen, very full vivid colors.

microsoft and avanade emplyee discount $469

give me a good reason and I'll sell for $469.

This has been a real long wait for some of my customers, that I never had expected.

dw,

What exactly is the problem with the SP5 supply? Is it due to to world wide demand, production problems with the units at HTC, supply problems from i-mate, etc...or some combination of these issues??!!

Do you (or any reseller for that matter) ever get real dates and numbers from your supplier, or just fuzzy hopes? Do you eventually get bumped to the top of the food chain after waiting so long, or do any of your suppliers care? Two months is an incredibly long time to wait, even for a good deal!

Posted by: MadMonkeyBoy

as far as i know imate has not shipped anything but a few SP5's, so it is either their strategy, or manufacturing weakness. I am confident of being on the top of the food chain, as I am usually the biggest customer for my various suppliers.

you could buy one off the person that found my phone in melbourne on the week end. i lost it on the way back to adelaide

oh well there goes a $800 sp5 and a $200 1Gb mini sd card......

SP5's are in abundance in Australia. Why doesn't anyone get it from here?

Posted by: puerrican718

Got a site that offers them then??? Not exactly gonna go to australia to buy it. Online all the way :-D

Posted by: rosullivan04

I wonder when the price will come back down to something more reasonable?

Not in Adelaide where do you think i had to go to buy one...

Posted by: chris_c28

Organiser World in Melbourne has them for $799.
http://www.ow.com.au/shop/product_i...fe5feb265727f57

So does Techoni in Sydney
http://www.techoni.com.au

I could have helped you guys secure one at my local dealer. However, I'm heading overseas soon and won't be back for a couple of months.

The funny thing is that the dealers who do have the SP5 in stock do not have the SP5m.

Posted by: Q-ball

I should be receiving a sp5m tuesday of next week that i'm not sure if i will be keeping if anyone is interested.

Posted by: Kwammi

I am starting to doubt that I will get my SP5 before the end of this year.

I've been waiting for MMB's supply for about a month now. Not saying that MMB is giving me bad service, but it's the wait and the uncertainty with i-mate that's giving me doubts.

Posted by: chris_c28

There must be something fishy behind all this. My guess is that HTC cannot obtain enough of the Wifi chip to produce these phones. Either that, or Nokia has snapped up every single unit for fear of hurting its sales.

My speculation!
